1. Ive got a new one to along with my Mb500. Its really good ive found, very punchy and handles a low B really nicely. I havent gigged it but have had a rehearsal with a 9 piece and a sort of 3 piece noise pop band. It kept up in both very nicely along with the mb500. I cant wait to get another. Its my first time with a small neo cab and i was blown away. Id read that the mb500 was very bassy before buying and was a tad worried but with the eq set at 12 oclock all the way across, i found it really tight, punchy and articulate, not overly bassy at all. Only downside is the tweeter which i found a bit to hissy but i use it mostly at -2db(i think) and find i dont really need any more top end at all, especially with new strings. In fact with the tweeter turned up full it was too much especially slapping and was too piercing. The 12 on its own had enough top and bottom end and is nice and middy. Cant wait to get another. (I have nothing to compare this to in terms or other small 12's so im simply stunned with it)
2. For cheap, i generally go with warwick red labels, especially if re-stringing the 6 string. I dont find them half as harsh as new roto's which is a plus.
3. Hi there, Wooo another Irish bass player.
4. Ordered a Korg Pitch black a few days ago, still waiting for it to arrive. €58 on thomann but i was spending enough over all to get free shipping. There all really good though, ive used the korg and the boss pedal ones and ive never had a problem with either. Probably a question of which one you can pick up cheapest.
5. The Tuners look to be exactly the same as on mine, which is a pretty old Romanian bass made by a company called Hora. Mines a much darker color though. Dont know if this is any help.
6. Had a gig last wednesday, 10 of us squeezed on too whelans stage and my double bass, went well and the DB sounded pretty good through a marshall vba and 8x10 cab which was provided. Thats how tight it was. 7. Have you tried the Corelli forte set of strings at all, thats the ones i meant when i said medium. Ill give my teacher a call tomorrow and see what he thinks.
8. I must admit i have barely any experience with DB strings. So them being light, hmm i dont know. Anywere i could source a single E string. Ill get back to you by the weekend though.
9. Ive been looking at the corelli 370(mediums) or Daddario Hybrids also medium. I cant honestly say what kind of sound im after as i havent played a huge amount of double bass's and my teacher uses velvets(i think there called that) which are well out of my price range. Just something to last a few years of playing preferably. Ive also come to the conclusion that my double bass has pizz only strings on it and ive been battling away with them i could be wrong but its about time for a change. Any others i should check out? Thanks Sma H
10. Watched the video above and a few others and cant say i was blown away. He's far better then me but there seemed to be a lack of definition compared to other players ive been listening to at the moment. His electric bass playing didn't grab me either. Granted ive only just heard of him and am basing this off a few youtube videos. Anything to recommend to listen to.
11. Im planning to get one of the top model ones of ebay. Ive seen a lot of professional players using them as they do take a good beating and my teacher recommended them. I would say get the best bow you can, cheaper bows quite of often dont balance that well and the hair that comes on them isnt great. 150 for what i hope is going to be a great bow seems good to me and ill let you know if i get mine soon. To ask a quick question myself, is it better to get 3/4 or a 4/4 bow? i forgot to ask my teacher. My current one is a 4/4.
12. Just started watching these, theres 5 video's were he talks about his technique. Ive only just started watching but it seems interesting. Also he does talk about playing and learning and inspiring/motivating himself to play and improve. Id better be off to do some practice.
13. In my college, the rehearsal rooms are kitted with those little orange tube amps, ashdown bass amps, roland electronic drums and small peavey PA's and now and again a keyboard. The only things that get broken are the cymbals on the electronic drum kits, everything else lasts. Even the larger mesa, ampeg, fender and marshall tube amps in the live room havent had anything go wrong yet. I dont get how students(myself included) would abuse equipment that they use.
14. Sweet, im really liking this tune. Would it be possible to get the PDF of you? I fancy something to keep me busy over the summer.
15. Going to order my Reidmar and a single genz benz focus lt 2x10 today. Very excited. Is it a bank holiday today in the UK or are the shops open.
16.
I have a Peavey 210 for sale, at £95. Not light though, but it does sound good with my Reidmar. Lots of low end.
Thanks but it would be too heavy too lug around without a car or taxi, for anything more then a few yards i reckon by the weight. I emailed Mark at bassdirect and after getting back quickly, he recommended going for the Genz Benz Focus cabs if im also using it for double bass. What do you all reckon? Maybe a 1x12 and a 2x10 vertically stacked or two 2x10's or two 1x12's? I cant decide.
17. Ok cool looks like thats the way forward. Ill give mark at bassdirect an email and see what he can do. It €1157 for the whole rig of thomann so hopefully he can do better.
18. My budget is around €400 for the cab, hopefully less. This means i could get a single classic 1x12 to go with it, but im worried that this might not be loud enough on its own compared to a single 8 ohm 2x10, whish in my head would be louder. The Genz Benz LT 2x10 looks ideal really. But i havent played one and probably wont get the chance too. I need something that i can carry on my own. Do Bassdirect give student discounts ? EDIT: Im really starting to go back on myself now, i might be able to afford two classic 1x12's as the last part of my grant came through, so if i didnt eat for the next 6 weeks till i finish college and move home again i could manage it. I do however like eating...
19. My plan to get an EBS reidmar and the 2 matching 1x12 cabs aint going to work anymore due to lack of funds and the euro - GBP exchange doesnt seem that great from what ive seen typing things into google. Im still set on getting the reidmar, but now just a single 8 ohm cab, probably a 2x10. So ive been looking at the GK MBE 210, its nice and light and looks pretty decent for double bass as well. But what are the lows like on one of these, will a low B come through nicely with a single one. Any other good 2x10 lightweight cabs or possibly 1x12's(i also saw an EDEN 1x12). Also if any one has a nice light 2x10 with low end which theyd post to Ireland. Cheers Sam H EDIT: Im also Looking at The Genz Benz Focus LT 2x10 and the GK neo 2x10 which is a bit more expensive but looks good. Any other 2x10's to be checked out?

22. Its a bit late but two weeks or so ago i played trumpet(unfortunately the bass position was already taken) with a hip-hop group on the Saturday night show. Im cringing at all the wrong and slightly missed notes i played. We'll put it down to nerves. Well i just thought id put it here and hopefully you'll enjoy it.
