Yeah, quite a few were fretless, and they also pioneered the “semi fretted” format where the lower (nut end) part of the fingerboard was fretted, and the upper part was fretless. Didn’t seem to catch on though. The fingerboards are made from ebanol, a synthetic material also used for making bowling balls, which is very like a hard expoxied ebony board; mine almost looks like new after over 40 years of play. Kramers were never really fashionable, the late ‘70’s / early ‘80’s alu necked ones were superb, really boutique quality, but the later wooden necked pointy “hair metal” models rather ruined the brand image. I’d personally take a ‘79 Kramer over a ‘79 Fender any day.

Nice - I have the exact same model; they’re seriously good basses especially as a fretless - I found it got me closer to the Mick Karn tone than my fretless Wal does ( most of the Japan recordings were done using an alu necked Travis Bean of course). Mind, he’d have better chances of a sale if he could actually spell “bass” in the title and had checked it actually works. As long as it doesn’t fetch much more than £1K it’s a good buy. 👍

Have to admit I’ve been doing the same thing; replacing my favourite DVD’s - definitely including The Godfather trilogy - with Blu-ray Discs, but find that I can’t bring myself to get rid of the old DVD’s just in case Blu-ray (already superseded by 4K) goes the way of Betamax / 8-track.......🤔. Which means of course I now have waaaaaaaay too many discs 🙁 Anyway, as Burns-bass says above; a real treat for someone here. Godfather 1 is for my money the best film ever made - certainly the best of its genre - and the two sequels/ prequels not far behind.

Good thinking 👍. Though as there are clear logistical problems in getting a deceased grandparent to validate a bass, it might be better to have each bass certified by a living Uncle, together with a photo reinacting him finding it in his loft. Car boot spin off possibilities here also

Very similar indeed to mine! My first amp - in 1977 - was built by my brother (who was pretty good at that stuff, went on to be an electrical engineer at Marconi), he even built in a fuzz circuit. I made the cab from the wooden carcass of an old TV, with the 2 speakers from my Dad’s old Pye radiogram. Needless to say, the speakers completely blew the first time I hit low E at band practice 🙁 Like most at the time, we recorded ourselves on one of those crappy little cassette recorders with piano key buttons.

All PC’s/tablets/phones should have a factory-set program such that if you type “plays like butter” into it, your keypad actually turns into butter......😠 But yes, looks like a decently priced ‘50’s P, particularly compared to how bonkers prices for ‘70’s ones seem have gone lately

My main musical regret is that in 46 years of being in gigging bands I have never, ever been in one with a half decent name 🙁 i wont list them all, but lowest point had to be a school punk band called the Thrush-ridden Apes (usually billed as The TRA)

When I saw the thread title I assumed that P45 had to be a UB40 tribute act where the band members actually have jobs.......(honestly!) (You have to be very old to understand that one 🤔)

Strangely enough, at a recent gig someone came over to me at halftime and asked me if my Warwick FNA (Corvette) was a Wal, probably fooled by the “W” headstock logo. 🤔 Gave me a flashback to a time in the early ‘80’s when someone in a car park asked me if my car was a Jaguar (actually a clapped out 1966 Bond Equipe GT4S, my first car, that cost me £100). I do feel your pain - though personally it’s the Blue-burst 4003 rather than the Blue boy that been on my GAS list for a long time 🤔. Hope you manage some sort of trade. Mind, I reckon you own a genuine dream bass in that Travis Bean TB2000 fretless......😉

Embarrassingly, usually a quick limber up noodling the intro of “Boogie oogie oogie” (A taste of honey) Or, if feeling mellow, the slow walking bassline to “Dazed and confused” (Led Zep)
