1. PM'd about the Tokai P bass circuit
2. I think it's the top clear coat that tends to yellow, hence the older Fenders in "sonic blue" that look more "surf green" Plus most of the older basses (and players) have done much of their time in smoke-filled bars of course.........
3. Bought an Epi T'bird neck off Tom, following up a year old FS thread on the off-chance! Couldn't have been easier- great guy to deal and communicate with. Thanks fella!
4. Really wish this was the 2u version as my back-up amp is the 3530 Silver Jubilee head (300W) currently in very boring black rack sleeve Have a bump anyway.....
5. Lovely old Gibbo, great score - put those pics on the Gibson porn thread!
6. Thanks ET - that's a truly excellent article! Didn't realise they were trying acrylic finishes so early, assumed it was just nitro before the change to poly
7. Quick Q - did early '60's Fenders have a primer/base coat under the top coat on painted basses, and if so what colour? (Top being sonic blue, if it makes a difference) Looking to make a bitsa Precision for gigging to look more or less like a '62, with just a bit of subtle relic-ing, so want to get the look right!
8. Bought a P pickup off Bryan; quick easy deal, great comms, ultra-fast despatch. Was a total gent when it mysteriously failed to turn up for a few days courtesy of Post Office - straight away offered full refund. I would have shared the financial pain, but thankfully the beastie turned up Cheers fella!
9. Buying new, have to say the Peaveys seem very hard to beat If you can stretch to a bit more, I'd def be going for this one: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222978-fs-1979-ibanez-musician-mc924-940-fretless/page__p__2368004__hl__ibanez%20musician__fromsearch__1#entry2368004
10.
There's one song I've always wanted to play live on stage but it hasn't happened yet. River Deep, Mountain High. Perhaps I will, one day........ What's yours?
Lol - I've been stuck playing that one for as long as I can remember! Good song though, that you can improvise on a fair bit "White Wedding" (Billy Idol) for me - no idea why I've never been able to sell this to rest of band Edit : Oh, and "Do what you wanna do". (T Connection) - for even longer.......
11. I think Howard gets his p/guard sheet from WD Music, and that's certainly where I've had the most authentic "vintage" pick guards from for my Rics and Fenders As far as I know the nice old ones are nitrocellulose but the modern ones are acrylic (expect I'll be corrected!) only drawback with the nitro ones is they tend to gradually shrink and get brittle with age
12. Bought my Mesa Walkabout head used on US eBay for around £200 less than equivalent in UK, even with the VAT & customs handling charge - though lugging a mains transformer around rather defeats the point of having such a portable head! Been hassle free though
13. Mwahaha.....OP bass now mine, after a very pleasant meet up yesterday in sunny (honestly!) Aberaeron with Chris, Mrs Beedster, and the two mini-Beedsters. It's much prettier in the flesh than pics suggest, but rest assured; this bass will live and breathe again in the form God and Wal intended for it..... including re-fret of original board.
14. Really liking that, good score GustOo! Quite a departure for Gibson - looks like a decent bridge/tailpiece for one thing!
15. £1300 for a '79 (still usually called "bicentennial model" even though technically that was '76) is good if neck repair is decent, as it looks to be - they're much nicer than subsequent models. Chrome 3-point bridge is right, separate bridge / tailpiece is only on '60's models Good luck!
16.
Cheers for the replies guys. I don't think that's my old one. The finish looks too vibrant. I'm sure mine was a little more faded. The only stand out thing I remember about mine was that there was quite a bit of wear near the bottom of the body where it had been stood against a wall and not on a stand by the previous owner. I really don't mind scuffs and scrapes but would never have mistreated it like that. During the time I owned it I couldn't find any presence of the GS Galaxy bass anywhere on the internet. No pics, nothing so I don't think thre are many of them.
No wear on my ex (above) at all - dated to '85 I think but it was pristine. The GS Galaxy guitars are fairly well known and respected (and still made I think), but I've never seen another bass version......wish I still had her!
17. Bought mine on ebay about 5 years back, only thing about deal I remember was it was "collection only" but I managed to persuade seller to post Lovely bass - simple, but fabulously crafted and finished. Since traded with lozbass on this forum who I'm fairly sure has moved it on, but may be a trail worth following! Good luck, and let us know if you find your old squeeze......
