find a car with the colour you want, get the colour code and then go to halfords and get a tin mixed up These are proper car paints aswel, not some cheap nock off paint Jake
+1 I was looking for the much the same thing when I re-spayed my Vox guitar – the most subtle I found was a very pale pearlescent cream which is a factory Audi colour you can get in aerosol cans from Halfords, labelled Magnolia (pearlescent) although it’s virtually white. As with all pearlescents / metallics it needs a clear acrylic topcoat too. For an even funkier finish you can get pots of tiny iridescent flakes in a liquid base from craft shops – brush over a base colour (like white) and top-coat with clear acrylic lacquer.

4 strings sound better than 5 string basses. Discuss.
Well...?
Cool avatar! Who is she? back to topic, never been a sound issue for me as much as a playability one. -
Ultra-smooth deal with Synaesthesia, just bought a Trace V-type preamp off him. Top guy, deal with in confidence.

Love 'em Phil Lynott always reckoned they were the "Yardbirds" of their day, they had so many top guitarists in temporaray residency. Did Lorne sell that ex-Thin Lizzy Mockingbird after?

Had an original Musitronics Mu-tron III and PS-1 off Higgie - great bloke, knows his vintage effects! Real pleasure to deal and commicate with.

Reuel's bass travel plan. (Shipping has now been paid for!)

I've avoided putting my pennyworth in thus far, so as not to make moral judgements - although I was within a whisker of being scammed for a Wal Mk 1 Custom on ebay a couple of years back and well annoyed about it. But having met and traded with Rob twice, I can say that the integrity and compassion for fellow bassists he's shown here comes as no surprise to me. Nice one man! NB; I'm sure there's material for an episode of "Spooks" here - just need to find a Russian angle somehow.......... -
Bass head Yamaha BTT550h and rack tuner Behringer BTR2000
Shaggy replied to AngeR's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I've got one of these amps, use it as a reheasal and back-up amp it's so reliable and portable (conveniently fits in a B&Q medium-size alu tool box!). Does Markbass hi-fi or Ampeg grit perfectly, and got the best compressor I've ever used. Also being digital it takes a tiny amount of power so never ever trips the power supply. Great value package this, so have a bump -
I had a 10 year break while my lad was growing up. I bought a book of bass scales and got into a local band. Several bands later and I'm still learning.
Ditto for me - except fpr the scales!
That was one of the first things I learned too. Space Ritual I take it? That album pretty much taught me how to play. Love it to this day.
Yup - lost my copy when Mrs Shaggy made me sell all my vinyl (300 albums) at car boot sales pre-move - must get the CD! Simple, driving, melodic playing from Lemmy.

Slick deal with Will, clearly a great bloke even though he probably supports Leeds. Make sure you post the pics of the short scale build , Will!
These days I use rechargeables, and stick a full one in every gig. There's no reason why all preamps should have the same current drain though. I guess cheap basses (mines the yamaha 375) have cheap preamps with higher drain?.
Same here. All my actives (apart from the Eagle) are oldies and suck batteries dry in no time compared to modern pre-amps. The new Ni-Mh rechargables hold much more charge than the old Ni-Cd ones and are pretty cheap now - use them in my pedal too

Me too! Is that the original finish? All the other old white ones I've seen have gone yellow

What the hell is a "pocket", more so a "deep pocket"?
Shaggy replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I thought this thread was going to be about neck pockets and extra-deep neck pockets! 4 pages later I’m none the wiser, but it did remind me of a joke so old Frank Carson probably used it; A hippy (read; bassist) was ambling along through the fields one day, probably looking for “mushrooms”, when he trips over a leprechaun “Ah, yer great hippy eejit” curses the leprechaun, “an’ I suppose ye’ll be wanting yer three wishes now?” “Three wishes?” muses the hippy “Like………crazy. OK man, I wanna be uptight, outta sight, and in the groove” So……….. …the leprechaun turned him into a sanitary towel. Coat. Mine. I'll get. -
i think you'll find the most logical answer is feel (perhaps tone also). some people (for example sting) have used their intruments they have used from the start (his fender telecaster bass) and you see its all 'weathered'.
Could be wrong, but I remember him starting on a mid-70's natural / maple neck Precision fretless, moving onto a Ibanez Artist Musican fretless around '80, and then various others until the '50's P / telecaster relatively recently. I always liked his sound best with the Ibanez - on "Message in a bottle", "Walking on the moon" etc (the reason I got one around the same time)

I honestly don’t know the answer to this, wish I did! I’ve owned so many basses in 31 years of playing, always moved on basses I didn’t get on with and kept ones I did – result, got too many basses, most of them old but modded to play and/or sound (to me) better than stock. Though I’ve had and moved on some horrible old basses too Being entirely objective, the “best” - in terms of materials, design, and craftsmanship - 4 string I ever owned was a 1980 Ibanez Artist Musician (bought brand new), and the “best” bass of all in every respect a 2004 Listerud Totem 7. But I just didn’t bond with either of them. . I guess if I were a pro – which I’m not; or a virtuoso – which I’m certainly not; or did a lot of recording – which I don’t; - my choice of basses would be different. But as a weekend warrior I want a bass I can play live that feels and sounds rock n’ roll and so far I’ve only got that from old basses – if that’s an image thing then it’s self-image not projected image that matters to me. Probably makes no sense; see first line of post!
I knew I'd offend someone......hope you're looking after that old Pbass, and not putting it too close to the Magnum..... BB
Why - what sort of mutant offspring would they produce? NB; The P is still my main squeeze - now got a Badass II back on it, definitely improved sustain.
