I'm now sorted with a P bass (MIJ) and before it even arrives I've started considering a 2nd pup in the bass. I'm considering adding a 2nd P pup in the bridge position, are there any obvious technical issues with that and is it feasible to have a pair of stacked pots so that I have a the 2 volumes on one shaft (worked independently to vary the sound or turned off/down simultaneously) and the pair of tone controls on the other? I may love the bass when it arrives but I'm punting this out there as I've almost always preferred the tone/flexibility of 2 pups in the past (and I didn't want a Jazz before you say).
Lol Yeah, They are... Not part of the rig though. I get such bad gas. A couple of those Warwicks will be very familiar to you John, no?
Oh yes... hence 'part' of my initial reaction.
I say, we should have a Basschat "Top Trumps" for amps, basses and other stuff and as the first player I'll start by putting my GremlinAndy bass rig card down. That has got to be the sickest rig on here.
I know Andy a bit and I've got to say that rig isn't being displayed to p*ss people off. It's an astounding collection of equipment and a rig to be proud of and with all due respect to some of the rigs that have come before on this thread, I can't see that being trumped!

PLEASE tell me those cabs behind your Schroeders aren't yours Andy!
Hi all We played at new venue that's just opened up in my home village. We decided to do a charity gig to raise money for this National Trust appeal. It's a 150 seater, and I'm happy to say we sold it out! Apparently there was enough demand to justify a second night. Maybe next time, though... We raised over £1000, which was nice. The North East's top PA company very kindly offered their services, so it sounded great. They haven't had a band on at the hall yet, so it was a bit of a shock for them when we rolled the flightcases in. ha ha. I also borrowed Mr. Warwickhunt's Aggie DB112 cabs. They sounded bloody marvellous...
I wish I could have been there... especially after receiving your text during the SC The band look in fine fettle and I look forward to hearing the full review soon. Must go, I'm now waiting for Bassoctopus to come and borrow my TF... what is it with bass players and gear.
Just wondering whereabouts in Blyth the rehearsal rooms are? When I lived at home (left in 84) we practised in St Mary's church hall or the old 1st blyth scout hut before they bulldozed that whole area to make way for the keel row car park. I can let you know next time 'm coming down to see the folks and I could bring my navigator / qsc rig down for you to try out - you'd need your own speakers though. Can't make it next week sadly - gigging in edinburgh.
The MyBigBedroom rehearsal rooms are in a unit on The Kitty Brewster Trading Est. but the bash will be at my workplace as it'll accommodate the gear and numbers better. We'll try and give a bit more notice for the next shindig, though they aren't HUGE big events just mates getting together to try stuff out.

Is a compressor of any real value in fast rock music?
warwickhunt replied to Clarky's topic in Effects
Here's a novel idea (and you owe me 50% of whatever savings you now make )... don't use one! For 'some' people a compressor (or limiter) is a must but TBH for many of us it's something else to f*ck about with that may well suck some of our tone. (IMHO of course ) I do speak as one who has had compressors (built in and racked) some of which have cost small fortunes (I used one for live work out of the studio that I worked in and it was the biz) and I actually found that for my style of playing it robbed me of some of the subtleties and variations in dynamics that I needed. I'm not talking Jazz quartet either; rock/punk/funk/covers you name it! I wouldn't thank you if you gave me one now. <edit> and before you say anything, the limiter in my Thunderfunk has been tried, tested, switched out and then left well alone! -
BEST BASS HEAD TO GO WITH AGULAR BB 112
How about a G.B. Shuttle 3.0? They're around the £350 mark, light and should look the part on top of that cab...
That should sound very good (bit more than £300, though!!) but I wouldn't worry about the tweed rack just yet. Me? I'd start saving for the second DB112!
+1 -

BEST BASS HEAD TO GO WITH AGULAR BB 112
warwickhunt replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for kind words. Both look good. Thing is, they both seem to be (on paper) too powerful for my cab. Am thinking about maybe a Freddy Krueger.Any more thoughts? Cheers

Well that told me. I thought that it's supposed to be like hi-fi (ie200watt amp-3oo watt cab/either 4 or 8 ohms .) It's the ohm bit that's the confusing thing
There's loads of info on the site Wiki re. power ratings and ohmages. A quick search on the site in general will reveal that amps and cabs of differing powers can be mixed just use your ears, if it sounds sh*t turn it down. I use a 550w amp into a single DB112 @ rehearsals and I use a pair for gigging and I've no qualms or worries what-so-ever. -
I've got it ordered it should come tomorrow, so I'm not too worried now. Kept looking at the listing and thinking, that ust bethe rock bass... the SN one the thing that set me off though. Any way, shall post some pics when she arrives. Not in classes tomorrow till late so the neighbours will be getting an ear full. If anyone is interested in the streamer and hasn't figured it out yet its on Reverb music. Ciao
I can assure that's gone... twice!
If there is any interest I can bring along some of; Amps / Cabs SWR750X head Goliath III 4x10 x2 Son of Bertha 1x15 Schroeder 21012 minus working horn I guess the SoB is a must eh WoT? Basses Overwater J Series 5 String Fender DLX Jazz V (modified with J-Retro) Self-build precision 5 hamm mutant thing Perhaps the President of the Peoples Democratic Republic of Blyth could make an executive decision out of that lot
Bring the fecking lot, we'll let the Southern Jessies feel the bass when we link 'EVERYBODY'S' rig together! Actually on second thoughts we have a suspended ceiling and I'm not sure we've been cleared for asbestos so just bring a bit.
-
Streamer Stage I & II Thunderfunk Aggie DB1x12 (x2) It might be interesting if I bring my Line 6 Variaxe bass, compare it to the real thing if there are a variety of basses. <edit> I might bring the Bolin along for an airing... did I say not too many basses?
-
I'll PM folks the address, post code and my mobile number. It'd be good to have an idea of basses/amps/cabs that will be there, if anyone fancies just turning up gearless and just having a bit of craic that's fine. No need to bring loads of basses but it'd be nice to have a bit of variety.
In my experience of organising forum stuff, it's easier just to give people a time, you'll never please everyone!
Executive decision taken! My school; 27-11-08, 6.30 onwards (finished by 9.00).
-
By my reckoning we have; Big Al Stevie C Bass Oct JPJ WoT JD1 Me Is that about the size of it? If so then even at £18 it's less than £2.50 each or the school for free with a slightly longer carry! If you're feeling clever Neil you can stick a poll at the top (inc whether a 6-8 or 8-10 slot is best) of the thread then people don't feel pressured by a public vote. Ideally I'd like to let Mark at MBB know tomorrow so that we can secure a time slot.
Reet Unfortunately, the Community Centre is booked next Thursday. It's a shame 'cos it's only 20 quid, witch a great load-in and a room big enough to let the notes bloom a bit! So.. unless we want to change the date, it looks like MBB! Over to you, Mr. Hunt...
We have option 2 or 3 then! Option 2 - My school which is free (cost wise) and available from 6.30 till 9.00 but is a bit of a carry in (WoT has been before so can flesh out the carry in and room acoustics in comparison to Opt 3 where he has rehearsed before). Option 3 - MBB which is a bit more expensive than I thought (£18 for 2 hours) and can be had from 6.00 - 8.00 OR 8.00 - 10.00 (as of tonight still available for either time) and is an easier carry in. I'm absolutely fine with either, what do folks reckon?

Opinions on condition of this Fender...
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
i saw that on ebay and thought the same thing it looks awful it mustve had something done to it to be like that
The guy is adamant that I'm/we're imagining it... it's absolutely standard, no damage/respray! -
MB1. Absolute Bastards..... will keep an eye on the mancunian market! How limited were these models?????

No serial or discernable features? Was it stolen in London, or just purchased there? I think perhaps a smidge more info would help his plight. Regards Mike
The Zebrano ones are pretty damn unusual/hard to find and the patternation of the wood is quite individual. I'd safely say that if you see one for sale in the SE on/in Gumtree/Crack Convertors then chances are it'll be this one!

That is a cracking price and one which won't last long when others find it! (BTW I know where it is )
