1.
Highly suspicious, but at that price does it matter? Looks like a cool bass and a new reliced one would cost more than that from Nash, etc.
Be honest if it is genuine it is worth 'WAY' more than that. Problem is likely to be that the bass doesn't turn up after you buy it! As has been stated it's advertised on the London Gumtree (accepted that it is on the www.) and located in Scotland. Chances are that if the seller is a bit hooky then he'd take your money and offer to post it. Saying all of that, there is no word from the seller and they have as likely as not had a 100 emails from genuinely interested parties and/or BCers and if it is genuine they are suddenly realising what it is worth; if they are a scammer they know they've over-played their hand.
2. Don't 'assume' that it is the wiring and go buying new bits, it could just as easily be a duff pick-up. Unless you have spares lying around that you can interchange I'd suggest a quick chat with your local repair bloke.
3. Well I've sent a Warwick Dolphin to Canada with InterParcel - Cost £130 (that includes the extra £20 for insurance to £1000) for delivery within 3 days. We'll see how they get on in the next couple of days!
4. It would appear neither I nor Kev have had a response from the seller and I even offered to collect at his convenience asap as I wasn't that far from him/her.
5. Horrible, glad you are OK though. Circuit breakers are a must!
6.
I've noticed that there is a lot of love for badass bridges on this forum. I've looked at pictures of the badass bridge, and they look reasonably similar to the Warwick branded bridge on my Rockbass. It seems a solid piece of cast metal, rather than the "bent metal bridge" sometimes mentioned. I'm not experienced enough to know how long various basses sustain for, but the rockbass seems to sustain notes a long time. I'm not sure if some bassists sustain a single note for a whole chorus or something, but otherwise, the sustain of my bass seems fine. Not that I was planning to swap the bridge. But I'm curious to know whether my bridge is on a par with the badass or not.
The mass of your bridge V the Badass will affect sustain but the body material/neck/neck joint will have as much if not more impact on sustain so you'd be hard pushed to notice a massive difference. I tried a Warwick Fortress with the normal Warwick 2 piece bridge against a Fortress that I had with a 2Tek bridge (the bridge alone weighs something daft like 3lb) and though there was a difference in tone I'd not like to put my nads on the line and say that it was all down to the bridge or that you could hear with the human ear that the 2Tek sustained longer (though it may well have done). Ultimately I doubt your Rockbass bridge would be superior to a Badass but the difference between them for the money isn't worth worrying about
7. Sorry if I sound like I'm teaching Granny to suck eggs but... After testing the speaker have you another amp that you could use to establish if the pre and power sections are operating OK? Using effects send and return or pre/power in and outs on the amp (not familiar with the model so not sure what it has) and the headphone socket (?) might help you pinpoint the problem. If none of what I've said makes sense I'll check on-line later today as to what your model has in the way of facilities to test this. Good luck with the speaker test though.
8.
Oops. Sorry to seem pedantic, but this is a 1000RB, not a 1001RB. So it's 3U. It weighs about the same, I think. It also doesn't bi-amp, because it's designed for full-range cabs. Here's the correct manual: http://www.gallien.com/manuals/1000RB.pdf
Oooops, sorry about that! I just glanced at your ad and thought I'd read 1001. Nice to see the 800 is working out for you though
9.
Just wondering, is the GK head 2U or 3U? And could you give me a rough weight of the beasty please sir......
Hope I'm not being forward 2U & 22lb http://www.gallien.com/products_artist_hd_1001.html#
10. Strings £21 inc P&P and PayPal Straplocks £7.50 inc blah blah Knock a quid off the combined cost if buying both together.
11. Post #34 @ 18:19... Great minds http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...20&start=20
12.
I would ship if you paid shipping but I guess it would be a lot of $$, it's expensive to europe from what I recall so HK is gonna be off the scale! I'm in Istanbul at the noment so ain't got a lot of time to look prices, will check it out when I get back, unless someone can give a rough weight estimate? Tony
I've just packed a Warwick Dolphin in a hardcase with double cardboard packing and the total was 13kg so I can't imagine it being far off that!
13. OK is it just me...? The banner presently at the top of the page (RNCM Bass Day with a pic of a tuning peg) advertising said day, who the heck strung that bass? That image bugs me every time I look at it. Who would string a bass up like that, it's just crying out to constantly slip out of tune It might have locked the winding underneath down but it's totally unnecessary and ugly.
14.
It's attracted a few extra bids since I 1st saw it, but when I did I thought... shy for PayPal, very low fb and no reserve - hmmm. I know nowt about real Fenders so kept schtum. If he could link to his 400 strong fb account it might help.
Even if he linked to another account it'd be tricky to verify that it was 'his' other account. Saying that he is up for collection... glad I'm not in the market for a 60's Jazz as that'd be a tricky one to call but ultimately I think I'd steer clear unless I could go along and try before I buy!
15.
Noticed that the seller has 100% positive feedback - thats 100% based on one transaction mind...... P
... and that one transaction was purchasing some screws for a 74 Strat/Precision/Jazz! Hmmmm I have to say that I'm not convinced by the wear and tear on the body of the bass and is it me or maybe the camera angle but is the view up that neck looking distinctly twisted or what? The tortie plate and the general look of the fingerboard look distinctly old but the whole listing/bass smells a funny colour to me.
16.
The guy seemed desperate to sell. Perhaps his credit has just gotten crunched, so to speak. Ebaying a valuable item with no reserve is a risky move at the moment, whether you're selling a Warwick or a Fender. Only three bids placed. Three! And they were all lowballing like mad......
Had Kev and I both chucked a bid on, it may well have tipped things and people may have started bidding but as it happens I'm watching pennies and I have the money earmarked for something else!
17.
You have no idea how hard it was for me to not chuck a bid on this, no doubt I'll regret it at some point. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110297578068 522 quid for a 90's neck thru thumb 5? Warwick really are struggling to sell second hand
Ditto. The economic climate must be getting bad when even I am having 2nd thoughts about buying something so cheap. I watched the last seconds tick by, torn between just buying it and sticking it under the bed for a rainy day and what I could better do with £500.
18.
if you ask me its night and day a definate improvment.
Definitely gets my vote.
19. According to the craic across on the Warwick forum (this was flagged up last time it was listed) this is a genuine Warwick. It does look pants though... if you want a bass that looks like a Fender buy a Fender.
20. With £1500 in my pocket I bet I could find a bass that I liked; just like the truth, it is out there! I assume that you were looking at a 'new' bass as opposed to used? Seeing as how you mentioned them (and I have a passing acquaintance with the brand ) have you tried an early(ish) Warwick Streamer Stage I bass? They can do a very good P bass when that pup is soloed and they are 2 band EQ (bass & treble) which you can just leave flat or like me just whack 'em on full. I also have to agree with the Doc that if it doesn't 'feel' right then walk away; the neck width/depth/position etc can't generally be altered (though you can shave them etc). If I try a bass acoustically and it does nothing I'd likewise give it a wide berth. I may be shallow but for me if a bass doesn't look 'sex' and make me want to pick it up then I'll pass thank you. After all action, tone etc can all be worked on. If you are in the NE region you are more than welcome to try mine.
21. A fair few interesting offers for trades and the odd feeler to buy but either I've been luke warm to the bass/cab/amp offered or the present uncertainty in the credit market has everyone watching their balances for the next few weeks. So a little weekend bump to see if anyone has anything out there?
22. The straplock set is gold coloured and can be seen here - http://shop.warwick.de/product_info.php/in...y-Lock-Set.html
23. ... and for sale by one of our very own!
24. I have 1 set left and PayPal is no problem. I also have a brand new packaged set of Warwick straplocks (inc end-pins) @ £8. I'll knock a quid of the postage if someone takes both.
25. The bassist formerly known as ___---___ How would I pronounce that?
