1.
WarwickH, does that cover you for gigging? +1 for alianz.. They rebuilt my big sax twice after on stage incidents.
The cover includes 1 'itemised' bass (valued @ £2200) and assorted equipment up to £1000. TBH I've no idea about public liability etc
 2. £145 for £3000 of cover I have x6 that level of cover for my basses PLUS all of my assorted music amplification, a couple of guitars, 1 bass insured for £2200 away from the home AND all of my contents up to £40k for about the same premium... Liverpool Victoria through Frizzell. Maybe I'm missing something but my insurers seem happy to cover and all I had to do was get a music shop to give me a written quotation for my basses to be replaced new for old. However (touch wood), I've never made a claim in 20+ years of having insurance.
 3.
Out of context that looks so wrong.
I had to read that 3 times to get what you alluded to. Nice one!
 4. As the original owner of the cab I can concur that this cab can go stupid loud and is easily the lightest 6x10 cab available (that I am aware of). I'll never forget the look of fellow BCer 'JPJ', when I turned up at his and lifted this out of the back of my car with 1 hand... you did hear that right; a 6x10 that can be lifted with 1 hand (though you'd not carry it thus balanced for very far). I agree the handles aren't the greatest but I do think that the fact that the drivers are offset means that you can walk through doorways and not scrape your knuckles, I've known 2x10s heavier and harder to maneuver through doors than this. The intriguing thing with this cab is that it sounds fatter/fuller the more watts that get pushed through it.
 5.
carefull dont tell warwickhunt where you live or he may steal that off you!
Oh I'm just waiting for Alex to truly bond with his RIM then I'll ave that off him
 6. 3 pages in... 1 insult (you'll not be wanting another Wick of me then Luke )... and I've only just found this thread What was the original question As has been said Warwick don't get that much stick but they are out of flavour with the general bass playing populace. The problem is compounded by the fact that the Warwick range has expanded massively over the years and the quality varies from era to era and range to range. There's also the ongoing debate about Warwick necks... oddly enough Warwick neck dimensions vary massively and several BC Warwick owners could no doubt testify that they own basses that are as pencil slim and shallow as any Jazz bass (the industry standard for describing a skinny neck) and some Warwicks are a nice big handful. You rarely hear Fender owners whinging about neck dimensions because most people realise that if you want a wide chunky neck you get a P bass if you want skinny you get a J bass; unfortunately Warwick don't have that demarcation in their range. As such you can almost guarantee (sweeping generalisation) that people wanting a skinny neck pick up a Wick with a chunky neck and people wanting a chunky neck invariably pick up something skinny Result = people slating Warwick necks Oh and just for the record...

Each and every Warwick I have ever owned has been bought and paid for by me, I'm not sponsored so I have no contractual allegiance to Warwick
I think the jack sockets on early Warwicks were inadvertently made with Chocolate and they stink (sweeping generalisation #2)
I [s]love hate love[/s] hate Warwick Thumbs... but I think I may be into double figures with the number I have owned over the last 20 years
I equally admire a lot of other basses (particularly Spector NS basses but I'd still rather play my Streamer).
I still keep trying other manufacturers to find something that bests them in every respect
7. It's funny but looking at some of the responses it's fairly obvious who are the 'experienced' eBayers and who just use it as an on-line shop I'm not dissing anyone for how they choose to use eBay but there are different ways and means of using eBay and a bit of nous can save a wedge of cash
 8.
I thought this thread might get some danders up.
Ooooh you've gone and done it now! 'Unleash the dogs of war'... well a few like minded BChatters
 9. Do you have an 'accurate' weight for the bass Sean?
 10. Lowest rated amp used with a drummer on stage would probably be 150w Laney ProBass 20 years or so ago. Though I've used lower rated amps for other musical performances I'd not want to go back to using much less than 250-300watts... Just used to the headroom and less worry I suppose. IMHO the greatest change in quantity of watts being used is probably more to do with higher wattage amps being cheaper to produce. Hence we can get access to more watts per £, so why the heck not use em. <edit> I tell a lie... I started off gigging with a Marshall 100w Superbass but that spent more time being repaired than it did being gigged
 11.
I'm not scared of things I've bid on turning up here. At least at present, there doesn't seem much buying ferver here. Not just the Encore, but other things brought to everyone's attention. I have posted links here that I was bidding on. I'm still the high bidder, I see. Though I won't win, as that bid was me in "ultra-lowball" mode. If there was to be an effective agreement, that could be that everyone posts here, but we agree who is to bid. But that most certainly wouldn't be a Gentleman's Agreement! I've seen similar happening outside a real-world auction house though.
In an ideal world that would be just dandy but unfortunately it just ain't gonna happen on a public forum I know of one BCer who posted on this site about a bass he'd seen advertised in a shop. He wanted clarification about authenticity etc. he didn't name the shop or anything but surprise surprise when he went back the next day the shop had been inundated with phone calls about the bass. Luckily he got the bass as the shop were holding the bass till he returned.
 12.
Well then, can we agree that anything in the Musical Instruments > Guitars > Bass category is fair game for mentioning here? And basses with 0 bids?
This isn't my site, as I said anyone can do what they like; this is just my opinion or take on things, people might find that your view is more valid than mine. There aren't any 'rules' governing what BC users can highlight on here, it just seems sensible to have a 'Gentleman's Agreement' about the kinds of situations that we discussed and your suggestion, if you wish to do that, seems reasonable enough ... I just hope you aren't watching a bass with 0 bids that someone flags up on here
 13.
I thought Overwater sold Bag End's?
WHAT! You can buy a hobbit from a beardy bloke in Carlisle? ... Cheque please!
 14.
I've had this bass on eBay for a while now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220285541158 I expect many of you are already aware Peter
Who... me!
 15.
It does seem odd to have a forum called "ebay links" but for it to be somehow wrong to post ebay links in it. It is true that extra publicity could theroetically drive prices higher, but I don't see much evidence of that happening here. The Encore bass caused much discussion but seemingly not a single bid. I'd imagine that most basschatters in a buying mood would be watching ebay anyhow. And while it's true that one basschatter may already be bidding. But it could be anyone winning the auction. And therefore bringing it to the attention of people here would, on average, benefit the basschatter community more than be of detriment.
eBay links is the chance to discuss all things bass and eBay related, it isn't just about letting fellow BCers know about eBay bargains. Look honestly mate we aren't talking about your generic eBay auction for something that Tom, Dick or Harry has seen and wants (the Encore). What I am talking about is items that your general search doesn't bring up (listings with spelling mistakes in the title, wrong categories etc.) that have a fair chance 'if undiscovered by too many other people' of staying low or going virtually un-noticed. I'm not saying that no one else in the world will be aware of those listings but you've got less chance of being up against a hardened BC GASer than your normal eBay bass player. I have first hand knowledge and experience of this very thing happening and for those people who can't be ars*d to search vigorously for the bargains then the people who come on this section of the site and post all of the little gems it is a godsend! For me I think it is tantamount to stabbing a fellow BCer in the back to post anything other than the blatantly obvious or the BIN auctions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some money grabbing killjoy. I've posted about BIN bargains on more than one occasion and there are several BCers who'd testify to the fact that I'm a pretty straight-up guy who'd help most people out but flagging up the potential bargains (for the stated reasons) does more harm than just letting them go. Ultimately it's up to the individual and there is no BC rule about what you can and can't flag up but do yourself a favour and consider how you'd feel if you were watching something with the genuine intention of buying and someone came on here advertising it to everyone On the other hand if your the kind of person that is never going to buy anything on eBay... Mums the word
 16.
Hello, this is my first post here. Would you believe, I BIN'd this very amp today, then later in the afternoon, registered on Basschat and saw this thread. What are the odds? I'm curious to hear how it sounds too. IMO, much of the colouration in amplified double bass comes from the pickup and speaker system, so a transparent amp, while desirable, isn't a cure-all. I was attracted to the clarus because of it's size and power, and DB specific features like the high Z inputs and notch/LP filter. It'll be used with an EA wizzy 10 cab. I'll let you know how I get on...
Spooky Welcome and be sure to tell us how it sounds.
 17. They've been trying to flog that for over a year now... I wonder if it ever dawned on them that people 'can' have more sense than money Looking at it from another angle, they get loads of people looking at their site to marvel at the 'big bass' so it is a pretty good advertising tool
 18.
The way I understand it is that the vintage guitar market is always appreciating along with other markets, when other markets are not doing so well, or falling into recession etc, the vintage market just plateaus and bubbles along until it starts to appreciate again! There's a reason why many people are putting their faith into vintage instruments as part of their retirement plans! Si
I'd agree with most of what you say Si but I'd add the caveat that there is nothing to say that the market for vintage instruments won't suddenly collapse. Buying a vintage instrument (or keeping one till it is vintage) is fine if you enjoy it (playing or looking at) but I'd personally not bank on an instrument or instruments paying for my pension. Just my opinion but I'm a bit old school in that respect.
 19. Have a read through this... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5572 You're not likely to find a 'cheap' option and if you are leaving the neck on and shipping in a case then don't be shocked with quotes of £90.
 20.
In a repost to Odub's post about falling prices, how are Fender prices holding up? Are semi vintage Fenders holding their price and bucking the trend?
Oddly enough semi-vintage or vintage Fenders have 'always' bucked the trend... so far
 21.
Likely as not it'll have been put away in a case whilst still sweaty and damp and then put into storage. Looking at the history I'd be surprised if it hasn't spent more than it's fair share of time in the back of a transit van day and night It's certainly been a working 'tool' and as such may well not have had the TLC that some people lavish on their pride and joy... that's not a criticism, just an observation. Still £2k+ is a lot of money for a potentially wrecked bass!
Ooops did I say £2k... just checked back and it's closer to £3k
 22. 23.
If something's got a really cheap BIN it's fair game though? In that situation i'd rather someone off here bagged it, spread the love an all that!
Absolutely 100% behind you on that one and that's generally what happens. The frustration is when well meaning folk (who normally don't want to buy the item) flag up 'normal auctions' of stuff that they've spotted... problem is that you never know if someone else is already monitoring it.
 24.
£500 inclusive, or for the head on its own? How much for the head on its own, if you would consider selling it separately?? Cheers!! Best wishes, Matt
I could be wrong but at that price I'd assume the £500 is for the amp and bag... if it isn't and it's for the amp, bag and 2 cabs that's pretty cheap!
 25.
+1 on that A Bosendorfer that has been neglected would not bring more money than a new one, irrespective of who played it.... Why are basses different ? makes no sense to me either.
It's now up to £2050
