1. $60 shipping from the States is pretty damn cheap. How is it being shipped?
 2. I always smile when I see the size of the body on a Thumb bass next to something like a Fender or Ric.
 3. Like several others, I'm a finger-style player who occasionally plays with a pick (when the situation warrants) so a ramp (even removable) would be more of a hindrance than a help. I also tend to play two pup style basses with my favoured position over the rear pup, if I need to loosen up the tone I have the neck pup to anchor on (either pup is jacked up VERY close to the strings so my fingers stop on the pup itself), so I've no need for a ramp. I do own one bass with no pups (Variaxe) but that has a long bar to rest on and the lack of ramp is just something you get used to if you use that particular bass. 'IF' basses had always been supplied with a ramp we may well have a different mindset re. ramps and their benefits but as it happens I think that the target audience for a ramp is quite small!
 4. TBH if it doesn't sell 'fairly' quickly, I'll probably just put it to one side till after the Christmas when credit cards have recovered a bit... hopefully () Then I may as well stick it on eBay, however it does seem fair to offer it back on here first!
 5.
I can concur that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this Bass. I had a "widdle" with it at the North-East Bass Bash, and if I had the money, I would have taken his fingers off!
Considering you rode to The Bash on your bike on the coldest night of the year (in snow ), it would be fairer to say that I could have taken your fingers off more easily.
 6.
Lovely news. Here's to getting what we want. As for customs/insurance etc. where and how do I go about dealing with this? My assumption was that the courier company would inform me of all the costs and procedures when I arranged the shipment. Am I wrong? Also, forgive my ignorance, but what is an Escrow service? And what does it have to do with wine? JP
+1 for Reule The customs is basically a ticky box declaration that you fill in on-line when you book the courier (you also declare the value of the instrument so that the recipient can 'if need' be taxed by their appropriate C&E). Insurance is something the courier firm will offer on top of their usual paltry £50-£150 standard insurance. Elect not to take it as and how you feel with regard to insurance in general; I've never had to claim on my household OR car insurance in over 25 years but you can bet your bottom dollar the year I decide not to take it out my house will burn down or in the case of my car (aside from getting done for no insurance) it will get TWOCed Ignore my quip about wine. An ESCROW service are a company that will hold the buyers funds in safe keeping until such time as they receive their item and when the buyer is satisfied they (the ESCROW company) release the funds to the seller. You pay for this service obviously (hence my wine charge if I do it for you) but at least the buyer gets peace of mind. Never used it myself and I've heard of a few cowboy/bogus companies so I wouldn't know who to recommend.
 7.
quite a while ago i was using my bro's b-10 at a gig and the g string ripped through the nut. since then i got a replacement nut but the bass needed setting up so i let my dad have ago at doing it. sadly, with my dad being a retard, he forced the truss rod in the neck and i heard about 3 cracks comin from the neck. does anyone know where i can get hold of a cheap B-10 neck? i really wanna get it fixed cause it sounds f***in awesome! ! ! this is it in action goin through an ashdown electric blue http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=la7GLjEBesA please excuse backin vocals lol
When you say you 'heard' cracking coming from the neck, is it defo fecked? You can hear creaks and cracks if a rod hasn't been adjusted for a while but it doesn't have to mean worst case scenario.
 8. Well I convinced myself I needed one and I got one... now it's up for sale! I have to stress there is nothing wrong with the bass; I just bought it thinking that aesthetically it would suit my latest band better but hey... it isn't Warwick shaped! The original listing is here - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=precision Since I bought this I've seen a whole bunch sell on eBay for a lot more than what I paid for the bass but I'm not after profit, I just need the funds to purchase a bass that is Warwick shaped. £325
 9.
Face it, you want mine badly don't you John?
again... I really hope anyone reading this knows that we are referring to a bass!
 10.
Ahhh I'm not in the que for courting Sarah5string . It's a lwed refernce to one of your many "children" though.
I'd watch it Josh... children have a habit of growing up and leaving home. As it happens I've sourced a couple likely candidates but unfortunately the bass that is the right colour is the wrong price and the bass that is the right price is the wrong colour...
 11.
That's a good point, I was thinking about it the other day. Has he gotten it yet? I've not read anything about it, but then again, I'm pretty oblivious at times.
He should have it in a couple of days.
 12.
I'll have one of yer Streamers!!
I hope this isn't a lewd reference to the kind of thing that they talk about in threads concerning Sarah5string!
 13.
Ugly ? I think its very nice ! Could do with cleaning the wood any ideas people ?
I hope you realise my tongue was firmly in my cheek with that comment... Cleaning ingrained dirt/sweat burns from a natural finish bass is 'virtually' impossible to do without stripping and hand sanding the whole bass. Were that my bass I'd have to way up the hours of work involved against whether it'd be worth just giving another wax and living with the mojo... leave it and just play it. Saying that if you sell it to me I'll clean it and post lots of lovely pics so that you can see what a thing of beauty it is awww cr*p that negotiating tactic didn't come out right!
 14.
Good work indeed. There was talk in the original threads of Jake paying back the money that was donated. Assuming that this is still the case (as would be right and proper), who exactly is being paid back? Presumably the people who donated the funds in the first place? Will he also be repaying the extra £100?
I'm an advocate of Jake paying what he owes. However, I do confess that though it may be morally correct for him to pay the extra £100 as well, I don't think that he need pay for our generosity. I would be happy for one to have the donation that I made given to a worthy charity were Jake to do 'the right thing'. Time will tell if Jake's heartfelt apology has any substance.
 15.
Another reason for my seeking advice. I didn't want something to go wrong with shipping and have this Czech gentleman appear on BC and then have the BC SWAT team come crashing through my computer monitor. Actually, it wasn't long after I signed up that all the business kicked off, and as I've been trying to flog the Warwick I was terribly worried that I wouldn't have any luck, due to my newbie status. It's a shame these things happen, and a rotten deal for those on the (non) receiving end, but I'm pleased to see that people around here look out for each other. Sorry for weighing in a little late, just my 2p and all that. Cheers for the advice. I hope Reuel is/soon will be enjoying his hard earned Vampyre as well as the buyer of my Thumb hopefully will. JP
That is one of the reasons that I'd advocate doing everything above board (ie customs declarations, insurance value etc) otherwise if it all goes horribly Pete Tong then you can't be accused of being at fault. I realise 'why' some people ask for things to be done underhand and[s] if there is a clear (written) agreement that the buyer is responsible should things go wrong[/s]... actually strike that! If an instrument is damaged or lost in transit then the last thing you want is you being libel by the other party/paypal/customs etc. The shipping side of things is no different to sending a bass to the other end of the UK. A courier collects, 'slings' it in the van (hence the flightcase and double boxed wrapping) and you know nothing more till it arrives at the other end. TBH it is the buyer that should be concerned (no slight on you intended) and they should be the ones doing the checks and establishing if you can be trusted, after all you'll be receiving the money before the bass is shipped I take it? You could of course use an Escrow service... in fact you live in Newcastle; I'll hold the bass and cash for each party @ a very reasonable charge of a fine bottle of wine!
 16. I think that Reuel's reply is possibly tempered by his recent 'experiences'. In the last year I've shipped to Romania and Canada and though there were glitches along the way with UPS (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19770&hl=ups+warwick) it got there in the end. Shipping Internationally isn't a huge issue;

Ensure that you have a secure payment method.
Be sure that the buyer is aware of shipping costs from very early on - as a guide it cost me £120 - £150 for my shipping costs.
Pack the bass well.
Get adequate insurance for the item (and make sure the courier firm know that it is for a bass guitar).
Send the buyer the tracking number asap.
It isn't worth telling lies on the various forms as it 'may' come back and bite you or the seller in the backside.
Good luck.
 17.
Can I dangle mine over your head until you get one?
Yes but what about the bass... Boom Boom!
 18. Sorry to dredge up an old thread (though I'm sure one or two folks won't mind )! Did anyone buy an amber/amberburst finish Spector in these various sales that is now wanting to move it on? I can do cash or a trade if you still need a bass. PM me any thoughts. Ta
 19.
Current bid £4.61. Has no-one contacted the seller yet? He said that if anyone knew for sure that it is not genuine, he'd amend his listing.
Where does it say that?
 20.
So glad that I am allergic to carrying huge bits of kit around and do not have any regular gigs that need this kind of grunt! Yes, that is the thought process of a man who is persuading himself
What he said. Cracking price!
 21. Possibly essential reading (they even cross-reference each other )... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=116 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=526
 22.
keep calm warwickhunt.....

sh*te camera but here goes .....
That's just plain fugly... Far better off going back to your Status. I'll take it off your hands to save you having to look at it any more.
 23. An 88 bass would be during a transition period for Warwick so could well have Maple or Cherry wings, a 1 or 2 piece bridge and/or predominantly wenge neck with maple stringers or maple with wenge stringers. Pics if you please.
 24. Buy a bass that looks sexy as f*ck. I'm shallow I know but unless a bass is so damn good looking that I have to pick it up as soon as I see it then as the Dr says, all of the other things can be fixed/modded. If a bass looks like a piece of sh*t then no matter how it sounds I'm not going to want to play it or have anyone see me playing it. I'm sure I could draw an analogy about whether you'd rather be seen with a bikini clad Supermodel who hasn't got the faintest idea of which end of a vacuum cleaner does the sucking (no BBC style pun intended), who can't boil an egg or a bird with a face like a Bulldog chewing a wasp who can wash dishes whist dusting the fireplace (again, no BBC pun) and simultaneously serves up the best soufflé ever! HOWEVER, that kind of analogy could be 'so easily' pulled apart... but you get the gist.
 25. Find a local upholstery firm in the yellow pages, a friend of mine runs a company that re-covers sofas, chairs and the like (yes re-covers rather than dispose of the old and buy new... a rare thing these days hence her company is struggling) and years back she supplied my band with covers for our PA speakers. Shouldn't be 'that' expensive to get the material, if your wife has a decent machine to stitch them. I'd ask my friend if she had any but then you'd need to add on the postage costs so it may be better to source it locally. If you get stuck and just require the material I can enquire for you but I do know that they don't have the manpower available to divert from well paid work re-covering 3-piece suites to run up covers!
