1. I bought this SSI when it was almost new, subsequently traded it in my search for the ultimate bass and was lucky enough to get it back this year. Ah bliss... now what else can I buy?
 2.
Hmmmm, I'm tempted! I have a marcus jazz that I don't really play much anymore after getting my sadowsky. What kind of tones does the corvette give off? I have a dolphin as well so I'm thinking they might overlap too much? How much extra cash would you be looking for in the part exchange? Bearing in mind my marcus has been retro fitted with the john east preamp... cheers! craig
I hope Chris doesn't mind me chipping in but I can give some insight into the tone in comparison to a Dolphin. I've A/B compared the Corvette with a 91 NT Dolphin and though I'm loathed to describe tone etc. (it is so subjective) I can categorically say that this sounds nothing like a Dolphin, so you'd have no 'overlap' as you call it. Why am I convincing someone else to buy this?
 3. Just when I think I've gone and decided what I'm getting next. Shame you didn't get on with this Chris. This bass passed through my hands (briefly) and I have to say it is VERY nice. You might want to give GremlinAndy a quick PM as I seem to recall he had a soft spot for this when he was collecting a bass from me earlier this year and he gave this one a blast.
 4.
I rang the Brum shop yesterday and he deffo said he had a placid blue DJ4. It also sounded like he had a sunburst 55-02 (he reckoned it was a DJ5 but a- it didn't have pickguard and b- the DJ5 doesn't come in sunburst) which was listed at 1199 but he could do me a 'silly price' if I was interested.
I've never been a fan of LPB and colour does matter to me... why am I such a tart!
 5.
I bought a batch of Sunbeams from Perfect Bass in the USA. I can't speak highly enough of their service, friendliest most helpful dealer I've ever come across! http://www.theperfectbass.com/explore.cfm?...p;SS=1&CR=Y Sunbeams currently listing at $22 a set and if you're a signed up TalkBass member they'll add maybe another 10% or so discount. I bought 5 sets and some other stuff and was in the States at the time and they threw in shipping for free. Obviously shipping to the UK will be a factor and VAT & import duties are going to add even more so it might not be worth the hassle now. I did wonder at one point about maybe getting a bit of a BassChat cartel going. If enough people wanted a few sets it might almost have been worth setting something up as they have a huge range of makes and sets available. However the bloody £ is worth a lot less against the $ these days making a bulk order not as attractive.
Cheers mate, I've emailed them re the cost of 5 sets so I'll check this out.
 6.
A reminder to all that it's the sellers prerogative to advertise their item at whatever price they see fit, and if anyone considers that price to be too high then to please PM the seller rather than publicly ridicule their price.
You have a PM.
 7.
That's a new one on me. Never seen one before and I bet I'll likely not see another in a long while (steps back and watches for buses). Did J Hellborg have anything to do with the design? I'm sure I remember him being associated with Status and that shape just seems to ring bells with his name attached!
I was confusing it with this early Status/Hellborg bass. Superficially a slimmer body but I suppose nothing like the basses discussed
 8. Hmmm, I thought it was reviewed in a Bassist mag but can't find it anywhere!
 9.
Don't bother getting excited about the DJ5 - it's long gone. Rang yesterday (and 6 weeks ago when the list first appeared). The DJ4 was still there though.
Odd I rang a month ago and they said the DJ4's were long gone but offered me a 'discounted' *new* bass, cheaper than RRP but nowhere near these sale prices!
 10.
It's a really nice playable upright. If I had the CR4M, I'd probably be sipping champagne and swinging from my £500,000 chandelier!
I'm sure that it is a really nice playable bass but the implication about the value of a CR4M puzzles. There have been a few of the CR4M EUB sold on here and they were only a couple hundred quid more than you want for your bass! I realise a couple of hundred quid is a couple of hundred quid but when you're looking at something like these instruments it isn't 'that' huge of a difference... is it?
 11.
I vaguely remember it..... definitely something to do with Trace Elliot...... have to have a a look back through my old magazines...
Ditto from me but I'm not sure about the TE connection; wouldn't dispute it though, as this was around the time TE were diversifying. Time to delve into the 'Bassist' box... I may be gone some time!
 12.
+ 1 on the Hotwires..... and not too expensive!!

DRs are good. Status Hotwires remind me of DRs but are cheaper and British
Hotwires are 25 Euro (+postage) a pop, I realise that isn't 'too' expensive but it is on a par with the prices I've found on-line for DRs and Thomastiks... or are they available cheaper elsewhere. Sorry, I realise the OP has no limits on cost etc but I'm as tight as a gnat's chuff!
 13.
I was looking at the Thomann prices which is more than £850 (usually the cheapest but I guess that's taken a hit since Sterling collapsed against the Euro). How about offers around £600-650 then? And there's no such model as the NS Wav CR4M (take the Wav bit out for the high-end models!).
NS CR4M it 'isn't' then!
 14.
I was in the BassMerchant today (and yesterday. Tomorrow too?) And these have gone up to 1k there, no case. I bought some matching straplocks and a case 4 mine. I'm glad I only visit occasionally or I'd be broke!
Scarily the Thomann site has them up for £1600 + delivery! I can't afford to have this sitting around gathering dust (and me killing the fresh strings ) so let's see if another £10 off the price gets a bite. Now £630 inc the case and delivery... cheaper if you collect and will take a Bass Centre gigbag!
 15. Blimey mate you've done well to get that in (inc taxes) so cheap. I recently tried to price up delivery of a bass off TB and by the time we'd added on the extortionate US delivery prices (saying that, on a par with the UK) and taxes it was going to be easily £1200 for a $1000 bass. Good luck and I'm intrigued to know what the mystery bass is likely to be.
 16.
Didn't know they did a mag' p/up version? thought they were all piezo! T
There's a model with piezo and mag - NS WAV CR4M... now if it was one of those I'd be interested!
 17.
would i be correct in assuming that if you are a selling a bass calling it a 'double jazz' is better than calling it a 'musicman style' or something as it doesnt reference another bass maker directly?
Good point Luke and probably a lot of truth in that. However, the fact that the original MM pup (and that shaped pup is synonymous with Musicman so most people call anything that general shape a MM pup) isn't coil-tapped, hence the 'W' (or any other manufacturer) doublejazz can can effectively do a Jazz job when tapped if paired with a separate pup which the traditional MM pup can't... does that make sense?
 18.
They are £699 new at the bass centre!
I was about to chip in that I hope it's the magnetic pup equipped version!
 19. Most of that stuff is long gone! I rang up about stuff on that *sale* pdf mid-November and the Lakkies, Warwicks etc were gone. There might be the odd one or two items but tbh I rang all of the stores direct and just asked what they had in stock that was in the sale and they had nothing bass wise worth worrying over. They did offer to give a bit of discount on their 'new' stock but it turned out to be about the price you could buy it from anywhere else.
 20.
Second vote for Saitenkatalog - they used to be fair bit cheaper (£17 a set) and I've found their service to be very good. Pickup some Thomastik superalloys while you're at it - my second fav string, like a cross between a DR Sunbeam and a Roto...
Already using the Thomastik Superalloys! They were only about £12 a set earlier this year but they are now up to £20 as well, otherwise I'd still get the Thomastiks but when they are almost the same price I'll get the Sunbeams.
 21.
This is a German mob that I've used a few times in the past. They're quite good, I just don't know how the exchange rate will work out for you. Saitenkatalog
Cheers, there's nowt in it between them and Thomann really! Bloody economy/exchange rate screwing up my string buying... tsk!
 22.
Roll up roll up!
Unfortunately your bass has a string too many for me... and before you say anything, I'm not just leaving the B string off.
 23.
Hi John My Music stuff via ebay do the sunbeams in sets of two that work out £40 delivered, i only used the company once to get few sets of sunbeams it took a week to get to and they cocked up my order, when i emailed them they were not only unapologetic about my inconvinience they were rude. so im a bit reluctant to use them again, they did sort it out after another week and A half, i just use strings direct and have gone back to d,addario xl,s as they are half the cost, nowhere near the sunbeams though love em.-lee It looks like Thomann are about the cheapest for the Sunbeams @ £22... anyone found cheaper?
Cheers Lee, I found those strings on eBay, £40 for 2 sets isn't bad but as you say cr*p service is cr*p service! strings direct work out @ £54 for 2 sets of DRs! I know that Thomann do 2 sets of D'Addario's for £30 and GHS Boomers for £13 a set... B*ll*cks I might just take a chance on the ones from the States as I have quite taken to these Sunbeams.
 24.
I wish i could afford this, really
You and me both. I assume that we aren't talking about haggling over being a tenner short of the total!
 25. Just like it says in the title. This is the last set of EMPs that I won in a competition earlier this year (just put other set on the Spector). I don't use Steels so I'm looking for a quality set of Nickels, ideally DR Sunbeams. They retail at silly money so if you fancy giving coated strings a try have a bash at these. Alternatively I'll sell them to buy a set of nickels.
