I've kept schtumm for a while on this but I do have to break cover and say that I'm over the moon that you have the bass now but I'm probably actually happier with the sentiments behind 'this' thread. I hope everything else in you life at present pans out as well for you Reule. Take care.

As soon as I get strings to match my SSI I'm up for doing a direct A/B recording comparison between the EMG/Tonepumped Spector Euro and the MEC/MEC '90 SSI. That should be quite interesting as acoustically at the moment they are worlds apart.
Thank you, thank you. I feel better now Beautiful, stunning but not enough gold knobs. Peter
Hmmm thanks for reminding me Peter, I have a set of 4 'new' gold knobs that might look well tasty on my (dark) amber Euro 4.

You bunch of heartless vultures! Well I have it... It is an absolute given that on any given thread on a bass forum if anyone has to describe the neck of a Warwick that the term 'clubby' will be used by the vast majority of contributors... Yes? Well how come this Spector neck is BIG compared to all of my Warwicks? I'm not slating it but it was the very first thing that sprang to mind when I picked it up (the first thing that sprang to mind when I opened the case was Phwarrgh). Nor do I necessarily think it is a bad thing... just unexpected! Quite a Precision(ish) D shape in profile, I've got a mate who I've been meaning to get a micrometer off so it'll be interesting to make a comparison. I've yet to play it plugged in but acoustically it is very different (mellower) to my Stage I which I'll be making direct comparisons with. This could be down to string choice so I'll reserve judgement till I've strung it with the same strings as the SSI (DR Sunbeams). Watch this space. -
Hi John, I think you know they sound better than Warwicks !!!
We shall see... we shall see! I'm going to try and restring it with DR Sunbeams to match my Stage I and do a bit of comparison recording. Then again how do you decide if it is the bass (ie body wood, neck and fingerboard) or the electrics (MEC + MEC 'v' EMG + Tonepump). I am looking forward to this. -
You're not after any (six string) guitars are you? That's about all I have to trade I'm afraid... (Unless you're into mountain biking...) Despite having a 'wick Corvette, I now want another Warwick, so there ARE some people out there who want Warwicks, so don't lose heart...
I have a couple skinny strings (70's Epi Sheraton/Parker Fly P38/Taylor Big Baby/S&P 12 string) for noodling on and for little bits of work so I'm probably OK in that respect but just in case it's something that might float my boat you can PM me what you have. Oddly enough I think Wicks are starting to turn a corner and I've had some interest lately. Christmas is one of those weird periods where there are some tightening their belts to spend cash on their families and a handful of others looking to splash cash to get something for themselves!

Some of us with excitable dispositions, require our expectations ...a little 'managed'.
... but that's the fun of Basschat.
Would you trade it for a bass I haven't got?
Only if you haven't got it on credit.
Would you give it a chance? Don't be scared John, they don't have to fully replace your Warwicks...yet.
Hmmm, you sure. -
I've got 2 knobs from a 1979 Music Man Sting Ray bass. Sorry, I don’t have the third one. Maybe anyone need them. They come with the original set screws. Lookin’ for 70 euros. A picture http://s166.photobucket.com/albums/u118/Si...rrent=knobs.jpg Many thanx!!
If you had the 3rd one... a neck, tuners, neck plate and screws... the body... pick-ups and wiring... a bridge and some strings... maybe the control plate . . . Oh and a bunch of screws etc. you'd have a bass for sale! Just pulling your plonker, this ad might be better off in another section of the forum.
dont think that ebay seller is RedDogMusic. Tell us about your one warwickhunt!
It mustn't be Red Dog otherwise the bass would be sold but it is one heck of a coincidence. Never mind my bass... it looks like every T, D & H on BassChat is gonna be in receipt of Spectors this week! Watch this thread for a glut of feedback and Spector porn.
It's not arrived yet. It's shipping today - missed the Friday collection. It's coming TNT and I'm hoping it'll be here on Wednesday. I'm preparing myself for a bit of a culture shock as I've always been into the classic Leo-derived bolt-on neck basses like Js and Ps and Laklands. I liked the feel of the Peavey neck-thru I bought (from WH) but the pre-amp just didn't cut it. Incidentally that bass is now in Southern France with a very happy new owner.
As if on cue, another reminder that I need to rein in some excesses. I was just PMing eubassix about another one of my past basses and commenting that as far as vices go, buying and selling on BC isn't half as expensive as a night out with the lads 'clubbing'!

So that can't be my one , then?
Unusual that they are both in Edinburgh and the guy also has a load of stuff that looks like music store gear! Do you have your bass and how are you finding it?

FOR SALE: 1991 Warwick Thumb Bass NT 4 string SOLD!!!!
warwickhunt replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Basses For Sale
Nice one - will update the ad on the 'bay now. Did you sell yours this weekend? Mark
No but with so many Thumbs floating around on the forum I don't expect to. I'm not in a massive hurry as I've sold my P bass to a BCer and a Warwick forum member has bought one of my Infinettes... just waiting for 'further' verification on my paypal account so that I can access the funds! -
Thanks Ady! .. thank goodness somebody has a decent memory: there you go John, if Oct. 07 sounds about right then you would have bought it from Ady/ebay. +1 on Ady's comments on the lightness/0-dead spots (in addition to what's been said before). Remains an excellent & uncommon bass .. at a very good price.
Phew... thought I was having a senior moment. Yep it looks like those dates would tie-in nicely. If those dates are correct why the heck did I get it off ebay and not direct from Ady? Never mind, another bump for a cracking bass.
Ultra Amber? Where's it coming from?
A local(ish) Spector outlet who are getting it direct from Arbiter... in ultra amber! I'm pretty confident in the QC dept but it's always a bit nail biting. Pics to follow and if I can get hold of a set of DR Sunbeams, a bit of A/B comparison with a Stage I.

Can't be ars*d with waiting for a used one and seeing as how I've sold one of my Warwicks... I've bought a new Euro 4 (a tad worrying as it's unseen and unplayed).
I DID have one of these ages ago - same specs/colour (you can get various options including 2x magnetic p/up in addition to the piezo / and various colour options - although IMHO this is the best). If there's some slight marking/wear below the rear 'hook' (extension for strap/balance) then it's possibly mine (well, formerly mine). There is (was) also a superb Bolin fitted hardcase (traditional, tolex type but with interior fitted for this bass specifically) with 'Bolin' logo. Superb instrument!.. can only agree with what's been stated thus far (except that I do like the headstock concept) - I really enjoyed playing it but didn't really find a 'working' use for it.
This does have that bit of wear described... am I going completely senile, did I buy this off you Dave or did you have it prior to my receiving it. I'm certain that I got it off eBay!
I know of a black cherry Euro 4LX that is one of the last SC liquidation ones that is going very cheap. Thanks to WH's fabulous networking to find a blue one, I managed to hear about this other one. Let me know if anyone's interested.
Don't blame it all on me when you're skint ... Pints should be winging there way to LukeFRC if truth be told!
Stop saying that, Warwickhunt, of course he's the moderator! To the original poster - cracking bass, I know a guy locally who owns one just like it and it sounds fantastic!
You do realise that if I change it, then your post will be irrelevant and look silly! I think I'll have a new 'Withnail' quote for the New Year. I've owned a few 87/88 Streamers (fretted and fretless) and I love em to bits. For me very much what Warwick's 'The sound of wood' slogan is all about, more so than any of the later derivations of the Streamer (or any Warwick for that matter). The later predominantly maple necked model has a bit more top end snap and not quite as earthy toned as these Wenge necked models.
