2. It might be a trick of the photographic angle but looking at the back of that neck I'm not sure there's enough meat left to work with! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Custom-Hand-Made-4-S...1QQcmdZViewItem
 3. Just in case we have any noobs who have Christmas cash to splash... I've now effectively sold my Spector (pending payment and collection) so I'd like to clear the decks and sell this Thumb if anyone is interested.
 4.
I had a chance to compare my Eden Nemesis NA650 with Johnnylager's new Hartke LH1000 on Saturday. Using John's active Spector bass and with both amps alternating through my SWR Triad, I was really surprised to find that the Eden's inherent tone had more mids in it than the Hartke, and that was with tone controls on both amps set flat. To get the Eden closer to the tone of the Hartke, we had to dial in some of the Eden's 'enhance' control, which is effectively a mid-cut and bass/treble boost..
To further cloud matters... IIRC the Hartke preamp is based upon an old fender/Alembic design and if it follows the same rules as the Tech Soundsystems amp that I owned (which had the same design) then the EQ controls aren't flat when the controls are in the 12:00 position, I think some of the Mesa Boogie amps are also similar This might account for why one amp sounded more middy than the other however because I can't recall exactly what was flat on that system it could well be that the converse should have been true. I'm sure Alex commented in a thread that I had about my amp's EQ (the design of the Black Cat/Alembic/Fender) better than I ever could but a search hasn't helped me find the thread. Of course the Hartke might have a similar preamp but the EQ may have been altered, in which case what I've typed don't matter one jot!
 5.
Is this a problem? Here's what Ampeg Support said when about my choice of second cabinet: Hi Rich, The SVT 15E would be an excellent choice to add to this rig. Right now you're only putting out about 375 watts into that 8 ohm 410HE. Adding the 15 will bring your impedance down to 4 ohms and give you the full 450 watts out of the 3 PRO. You'll be getting about 450 watts into a 4 ohm load that is basically 500 + 200 watts. You should be fine! Hope this helps!!!! Feel free to hit me back here anytime! Best Regards, Dino Monoxelos. Global Ampeg Product Specialist. LOUD Technologies Inc. [email protected] [email protected] www.ampeg.com
...only if you think it is. If it sounds good to you 'in the situations that you use it' then don't worry about it; unfortunately for you, the seed of doubt is planted!
 6. I'd be amazed if it was the Euro 5... I was potentially going to buy the Euro 4 from them, their price £1467 discounted to me for £1000 and that was a healthy discount!
 7. I've encountered 3 of their guitars in the last 6 mths (my guitar player has just bought a relic'd Les Paul) and they have all played fantastically well, added to which the pups are Wilkinson units and seem to do a decent job! Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I did a search on the forum but you try and search a bass guitar forum using the word 'vintage'... not conducive to an easy search.
 8. +1 for Transglobal (DHL) Delivered a bass to The States (actually delivered 'on' Boxing Day) in 3 days for a total cost of £85 (of which £38 was insurance). Minor glitch/delay when DHL rang me the morning after collection asking for my VAT number, I pointed out it was a private individual -> private individual transaction and they simply said "thanks, bye". +1 for Interparcel Delivered a bass in 2 days when it should have been 24hr but no big deal as cost was £18 inc increased insurance to £350.
 9.
Soundslive.co.uk have 4 LG1000s in stock for £284 + £6 delivery. Some guy on Talkbass (an 11 year Ashdown endorser no less) reckons they sound like a cross between the ABM and Mark King signature series amps. Anyone gonna buy one?
That's not a lot of money for a powerful little amp! I hope they are reliable.
 10. I've had an email back from Barrie's contact so I'm gonna order a few sets from the States and see how it pans out.
 11.
I fancy a change so thinking of selling my Glock head for £950. It is under 1 year old and will come with a 4 unit rack. Checkout ..... http://www.thomann.de/gb/glockenklang_heartrock_top.htm THanks.
Shame you weren't closer (and/or significantly cheaper ). I'd have loved to have done an A/B with my Thunderfunk as my experience with the Glock BassArt makes me think that your amp is 'probably' one of the few amps that might trump my TF (for me anyway)!
 12. Are you going bass>effects>amp or are the effects in the amps effects loop? You can get different results depending upon how you have your pedals in your set-up; if in the effects loop you may have a series/parallel set or a pad switch to attenuate, you might want to play with all of the permutations!
 13.
Its all very well having a bass that is capable of making sweet jesus love to your ear drums but there's no point in plugging it into an amp that is designed for bog standard fender type basses. The benefits are unlikely to be passed on all the way to your speaker. (And speakers are yet another thing entirely that I'm sure AlexClaber will pick up on).
Yep CK elaborated far better than I could have! As pointed out the benefits would need to be weighed against what your needs/equipment justified. An average gigging bass player (not saying the OP is 'average ) would likely as not hear a bigger difference by changing strings (for new ones or different brands/gauges) rather than upgrading from 9v to 18v or to take it to the next logical step... if you have cr*ppy cables (speaker and instrument) then maybe it's worth looking at upgrading those elements first. re. your OP - you stated that you can run either 9v or 18v and that you are concerned about overdriving/distorting your signal chain... tbh you'd need to suck it and see if you had the latter problem as some 9v circuits can be hotter than 18v (I had a MM that was RED hot 9v compared to my 18v Warwick) but if either works then you may as well go 18v as you may reap the benefits at a later date. Don't forget as someone has already pointed out, you can turn the vol pot down on your bass a smidgen if it is too hot!
 14. I think that Michael 'WaterofTyne' has tried pairing his Mesa amp with the DR cabs to good effect (to the point where he has ordered the DR cabs IIRC). I'm sure there are others but you might want to drop Mark 'Marcus' a PM as he has plenty of experience with Eden and either recently owned (or still does own) DR cabs. I can't comment on what might match well as I have no experience with the DR cabs though I have owned a pair of Markbass amps... but as amp/cab combinations are so idiosyncratic/personal my view of the MB amps is skewed by the cabs I had paired with them.
 15. I can't give you any of the 'science' behind why but if your circuit is designed to operate @ 18v then that is when you will be getting the best signal to noise ratio and you will be gaining more headroom. However... don't expect a massive (ie doubling) of output or suddenly to have a 'huge' change to your tone! I've run basses with 18v and 9v circuits and the difference isn't that staggering, though I will add that I'm talking about gigging rigs/situations, you may well notice a difference if recording using high-end gear. The 18v OB1 preamp that I have in my SSI fretless (Bart pups) is no higher/hotter output than any of the other 9v circuits that I have in other basses (nor was the 18v Audere that I had in an MEC equipped SSI) but the 9v/18v (voltage doubler circuit?) Tonepump Spector has a huge range on the tone controls; I have to run the Spector with the tone controls on 0/off to match my MEC equipped bass with bass and treble on 10/max. Just some real life observations.
 16.
ach give it a chance and 6 months, if the retail price has gone up then you should be able to sell it for more than that, or you may fall in love with it!
Funny thing is that as soon as I withdrew it I had contact from 3 people wanting it... oddly enough none have come to fruition! I agree though Luke, if I leave this a few months and Spector get a new distributor, prices are going to be up (potentially by as much as 25%-30% by my sources calculation) and I think I'd sell it fairly easily; especially with Christmas out of the way.
Does anyone in the West Yorks area have one of these? I really like the look and sound of these but being a small hands kinda guy (no rude jokes please), I'd like to find out just how chunky these necks are before I take a punt. :S
I reckon most of your fear stems from the fact that I said earlier that the bass had a chunky neck profile... bear in mind I am talking in comparison to a couple of basses that are as skinny as a skinny thing and by chunkier I am talking the odd mm here or there. You are right however there is no substitution for trying one in the flesh but I do have to say that I'm only 5'8" so I 'certainly' don't have large hands. In fact it's interesting that of all the people who have bought Spectors recently I appear to be the 'only' one to have mentioned the neck profile; all of the others (some of whom must have smallish hands) are more than happy with the neck dimensions. <edit> Try Before You Buy - West Yorkshire... no distance from Newcastle. However I'm sure Peter (Greeneking) and/or Al (Niceguyhomer) are closer... Al's is a 5 though!
 17.
Funny, I've only heard of one other person having a problem with the WT800 and even after several attempts it wasn't right? Maybe a bad batch? What about a WT550? - My one has never missed a beat, it puts out 500w into 4ohms and mutes if you put the volume down to 0
When I was researching getting an amp last year I read quite a few reports on t'internet re. problems with Eden amps and reliability. Like you say maybe it was a bad batch etc but it was sufficient to put me off!
 18. A +1 for the Thunderfunk for me. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone but it does warm for me!
 19.
i have owned a 'real' fender from usa...the build was not as i would have expected round the neck to body joint it sounded ok though and was made of tough materials..1998 model i havent looked closely at a squier but would expect it to be on a par with a usa fender most owners of any fender iirc are all about changing pups/ splts/ bridge/ tuners/ and god knows what else so what is the real draw with fenders they are easy to upgrade??
What's so easy to upgrade on a Fender that can't be upgraded on any bass? Actually, saying that, most basses don't need upgrading as much as Fenders do.
 20.
And theres me hoping for a sudden realisation.... .
You just never know... it may get a chance yet and turn into one of those growers.
 21.
<edit due to an unusual bout of common sense> In a moment of sober lucidity I suddenly realised that aside from the price getting silly, the shipping cost could be more than I anticipated due to insurance AND I'd have to buy another case to ship the bass in as the one that I have is spoken for as my Thumb bass is likely now going to the States! Hence the bass is withdrawn for the time being.

Withdrawn?? What are you up to John?
See above.
 22.
Hi There Post a photo or two may be interested Best Regards John
Hey John, let me know what you'd like a pic of and I'll do it now. Effectively though if you go on the Spector or Thomann site etc. it is the same bass as if you were buying new... down to a new set of strings. I've attached the pic I used earlier but I should add that the pic was taken with the flash so the colour in natural light is a smidgen darker / less orange.
 23.
This is now a better deal than I got. You'd be mad not to - assuming you have the cash and want one.
Cheers Sean. I've reached the bottom of my limit now so I may well either put this on eBay or limit it to a local sale then I can afford to knock off the cost of the case and delivery!
 24. I think Bassoctopuss shipped a bass to France, may be worth a quick PM. One small word of warning... I used to do a lot of small item eBay stuff (not bass related) and I'd say that half of the transaction that involved postage to France had issues with delivery (only place worse was Italy). I always got proof of postage when I sent stuff so I was always covered when challenged but honestly their local delivery services must be shyt. So I'd say don't skimp on insurance and ensure that the service selected includes musical instruments.
