I've just put DR Sunbeams on my GL2500. Very very nice, still a bit too bright for me (don't like stainless!) but the feel is perfect.
Sunbeams or Thomastik (nickel) Alloys (see Thomann site). If you just want to test some nickels out for cost effectiveness then check out some of the eBay offers on Hartke strings; I got 3 sets of strings for £12. Ideal if you have string eating sweat.
It would be wow! if I could play it. Four strings is about two too many for me
Gorgeous! Only 1 string too many for me BUT... 3 knobs and 3 switches too much for a simpleton like me.
If money is no object you could try to find a Zon Sonus 8 string... very light for an 8 and also has a graphite neck!
... and did someone mention Warwick? I had a NT Streamer in a VERY 'custom' colour (2nd from right). The bass was painted like that at the factory and was owned by KRAFFT bassist Helmut Hattler. A lovely sounding and playing instrument but hardly ideal for a covers band!

squire...Standard, Vintage mod, or classic?
warwickhunt replied to dalgliesh1990's topic in General Discussion
The general pecking order is Affinity, Standard, Vintage Modified, Classic Vibe. Deluxe fits in there somewhere as well! For bass/£ equations, you've really got to look at the Affinity for true value, but for the price, those classic vibes can't be beaten. They trounce most MIM Fenders.
I have to agree. The Jazz CV I got from FunkyHobbit (first owner being Marcus) is so playable that it is frankly astonishing for the money... my caveat being that I am talking fit, finish and playability; as the pups in this are full blown EMGs so I'd expect them to beat most stock MIM/MIJ/MIA pups. -
Rare custom order Warwick Thumb...Striaght sale now £800
warwickhunt replied to sjc75's topic in Basses For Sale
J - 01 = Sept 01 re. the whole CS issue. If it is made by the CS it will say so if it is a Ltd Ed etc it won't have the CS markings but normally (certainly 2001) has a plate indicating the serial number and year of manufacture. I'm not big on the various BO Thumb bass releases but IMHO a post on the Warwick Forum would shed more light on what the bass actually is (if that matters to anyone) than a response from Warwick HQ. Regardless of any of that... good luck getting your trade. -
I was the previous owner of this bass, and I can confirm everything CJ put in his post - it's a belter with a fantastic preamp.

Has this bass got a Jackson-style headstock (pointy)? If so, I owned this bass for a while, and it's an amazing bass.

Ditto, if pointy head, was probably mine too!
Can I be the first to say that I 'haven't' owned this bass! A lot of bass for not a huge wedge of money.

MM basses are notorious for high/hot output, I'd imagine you'd need to reduce the input gain on the amp to match it to your bass.
Look at the first 2 on the other thread and just been asked about a vintage j4 waiting to hear if its a NY one. Keep the offers rolling guys, Thanks
Nope, you've got me there! I can see that 'bubinga5 owns an RV5 (I assume that is one of the offers) but I'm not quite sure who the others are...?
That would be the new "sterling my musicman" line. It's not a USA musicman, it's their new line that's been outsourced to korea or something. Basically the replacement for OLP but more on par with the SUB basses. Apparently they're meant to be very nice basses, but i wouldn't pay that much for something made in korea. Also that's the stingray model
I'm not 'O'Fay' (crap french for 'dinna understand') the full range of MM basses but I did PM the seller a couple questions re. the bass for sale and in particular can he supply images of the actual bass for sale (I noticed the major discrepancy with the title and pics), we'll see what he comes back with!

Can't imagine you'd find one much cheaper used 2nd hand! If you were UK based buying it, then @ £500-£600 would end up being closer to £850 (shipping, duty etc.) and I can't see that happening in a month of Sundays... no matter how good the bass is! Even if $600/approx £400, it would still be a £650/£700 bass to import.

The bass in the OP reminds me of the (IIRC) Gibson RD bass... weren't they pants as well? Only joking Gibbo owners.
