What watt amp do you think I should be aiming for, would 15 be loud enough?
Without wanting to get too technical (though it isn't rocket science ) it isn't just down to the number of watts, it's dependent upon the speaker, manufacturers credibility with ratings etc. However, I'd say that 'generally' speaking, cheapie 15w amps/combos are not worth considering if you intend gigging. If you do a quick search on the subject you'll likely find that most 'gigging' bassists would recommend 250watts as a good starting point BUT (before you have a fit) that is assuming you are playing pubs etc with a drummer and a guitarist playing through 50-100w amp. You can obviously subtract from that rating if you are DEFINITELY not going to be playing along with an energetic drummer and your guitar players are playing acoustics either through a very small PA or small combos. However I'd say you want to be aiming for 100w and preferably a 12"/15" driver rather than a 10" (or heaven forbid a cheap 8"). The thing to bear in mind is that you can always turn a bigger amp down... it's not so easy to turn an underpowered amp up (well not without farty noises ). Good luck
 2. The power splitting (2x200w into x2 4ohm loads) may not suit everyone but that is a cracking amp @ practice amp price! Pair this with something like a couple of Peavey 4ohm 2x10TX cabs and it makes a 'proper' gigging amp. Despite needing a service, if I were looking for a first proper amp I'd snap this up... probably because it was an amp/rig I ran many years ago. Good luck with the sale.
Oooo Chocolate.....Mmmmmmmm are those cabs heavy??
I have to confess I can live with the mid-weight for the tone but I so wish that they had put a pair of handles instead of one. I know that there are times when one handle actually works really well (short haul one cab in each hand) but there are just about as many situations where I do multiple trips, up stairs etc and I carry one cab grasped at the bottom/sides... hardly a chore, just saying! I have to confess I 'probably' like the chocolate or vintage tweed more than the black and silver.
 4. Try and source an electric bass that has piezos in the bridge. You can then mix and match and get a very useable acoustic bass tone but you'd have none of the problems associated with an acoustic bass and all of the benefits of an electric.
 5.
Gone from Ebay .. So did a BC'r get it?

I hope so..... but Fender are on a mission with John's Guitars, they tend to contact Ebay when they're up for auction !
It looks more like a pulled listing rather than a seller ending it early!
 6. Con or complete plonker? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Warwick-Stage-II-Str...1QQcmdZViewItem
 7. Not sure if you have it already but the manual is here Peter... http://www.ebs.bass.se/2007/manuals/td650.pdf Stomp pedal effects in the loop are powered when the button is depressed but it isn't very clear if that is one or all and I assume that it is only EBS pedals.
 8.
Good job Jaco didn't play a Warwick
Yeh... he'd have been proper good then!
 9. "It is a standard German Warwick with the exception of it having had its frets removed at some time in the past and the gaps filled. It looks like a fairly professional job from what I can tell."... I'd suggest he looks again! Wenge is a swine to defret as it chips and splinters soooo easily. 10.
Can you "daisy-chain" the two sides together if you only have a mono amp?
If it doesn't have the capability for parallel linking I'd assume your amp would have 2 outs... either way you'd need an amp capable of 2 ohm operating.
 11.
I used to have a girlfriend called Lia Belous
I knew a Conny Lingus... does that count?
 12. I change my batteries every Christmas... in my basses! One of my basses (Warwicks) gets 10+ hrs use a week virtually every week and I've yet to have a battery die from one year to the next. Not trying to teach Granny to suck eggs but so long as you remove your lead between uses (not strictly necessary at a normal gig), you shouldn't drain a battery 'that' quickly. Batteries that I take out I keep for use in non-essential items like my tuner.
 13.
I really think that some you should go back and read part 6 of the introduction which outlines the conduct and behaviour of members on this forum. I find a lot of the things said on these pages offensive, accusatory, and even liabelous. Some of you seem to think that your status outside of this gives you the right to slag off anyone and everyone without any real understanding of the situation at hand. Some of you don't even have a clue what you are talking about. If you spent just half the time you do writing these scathing reports on shops and websites etc as you do on actually playing bass then maybe you wouldnt be so frustrated. I find it childish, futile and pathetic that some of you feel the need to be so anally retentive. To me this sums up everything depressing and tragic about these so-called forums. If this the way you carry on behind peoples' backs then it's no wonder that YOU are the ones who get a reputation for being difficult. Its pathetic and god help anyone who has to deal with you.
A point well made... so why did you bother joining? I think you'll find that the point of forums is that sad deluded people without real lives can talk utter b*ll*cks 'behind people's backs' (though how you manage to do that whilst openly posting on a public forum, I fail to comprehend). In summary you don't have to deal with people on here... you can simply extricate yourself and go elsewhere! That isn't how I normally welcome people but it is how I react to individuals who come on and start slating all and sundry with less than an hour as a member; you'll find that to slate all and sundry you have to be a member for at least 2 hours.

 15.
Bidder 2 took 3 days to decide that he had placed a bid of an incorrect amount! Still looking good atm for a cheapie.
I thought as much... £720. Did anyone off here get it?
 16.
Keighley..... close enough if ya serious enough !! HOW MUCH DO YA WANT IT PUNK !!!
That's like Yarksha isn't it? I may have sourced a couple of downsized Jazzers closer to home so we shall see.
 17.
No we didn't unfortunately. They offered us £1500, mainly because they said this forum has too many difficult members compared to some of the other forums out there that they had looked at. However Basschat has size in its favour, so there we go.
Difficult members...! Oh OK, give me the £1500 and I'll leave.
 18.
CHRISDABASS now has 2 downsized Sadowsky basses...... the lucky bugger !!!!
Not in the NE I assume?
 19.
Hey Up mate..... You did like my full size Sadowsky didn't you !! For me the Lakland Skylines are chalk and cheese from their USA cousins, picked up some nice ones and some dogs.... The Sadowsky Metro's are virtually identical to the NYC basses..... Buy a MV4 and live happily ever after !!
Anybody got an MV4 I can try? Seriously though, I'd equally love to try a 'downsized' Sado but even your mate Steve doesn't have one in stock! Hence the chance to try a DJ seemed more likely. You never know I might strike lucky and find a good Skyline!
 20.
I'm sure this bass is cursed as it seems to have had problem after problem Any advice is really appreciated.
Sell it to me for eleventy-twelve pence... problem solved! Soz can't be more constructive but as it is a passive bass it can't be rocket science to get the pups/pots/wiring either changed or checked... or sell it to me.
 21.
Hey lads up north What's a good store up north? I like it in Newcastle so I might come and look for my Jazz up there. Been getting good quotes from guitarguitar.co.uk in N castle. Gaz
GuitarGuitar, Soundslive are 'probably' your best two options but occasionally you can find something in Brian's Guitar Shop or Windows. There is a new one (in the old SoundControl store) called Aire Guitars but not a great selection or particularly keenly priced.
 22.
So, tell us about 4 112 cabs.

Very Loud, very very loud.... full bodied and very very tight bottom end, I thought it might get a little wooley with the 4 of them but not at all, It punched you in the back of the head stood in front of it..... Shame we didn't think to video some of the other stuff...... bit of an after thought, we had some canny gear in the room !!
I have to say that there was no real specific focus for the impromptu get together, it was just a case of we did because we could! I think it was quite illuminating for WoT to try his Bergs against Aggie 12s and to try the DB750 against his mesa; it was also a chance for Marcus to simply see what happened when you tried out the 2ohm capacity of the DB going through 4 vertically aligned 12's (scary); I also got the chance to try Marcus's Sadowsky and now have a hankering for a downsized Jazz. Any excuse to make a racket and induce GAS!
 23. I find the standard sized jazz body a tad large for my taste so I've been drawn to some of the Sadowsky Lakland DJ style basses and as the Skyline DJ appears to be the most readily available and reasonably priced, I thought I'd ask if anyone has one that I can have a plonk on? I could take a punt and buy a 'cheap' used one blind knowing that I'd not lose too much if I had to resell but tbh I'm getting tired of using that route to try different basses out, as it is a fair bit of hassle handling the sale and then packing up the bass and waiting in for a courier etc. It doesn't matter whether it's a USA or Skyline, nor what pups it has or fingerboard wood etc. as I only want to get an idea of physical dimensions/feel. I could reciprocate and let you try out a Warwick or a Spector! Cheers
 24.
one-year-on bump / link (gear 4 sale)
Do you have a set price yet Dave and is there meant to be a link?
 25. Bidder 2 took 3 days to decide that he had placed a bid of an incorrect amount! Still looking good atm for a cheapie.
