1.
I think if you're really trying to make a CV exactly as good as a JV, by the time you've upgraded the pots, pickup and junked the peel-o-matic chromeware for actual nickel plated then you've have been better off with a JV.
I'm not saying that you are wrong about many JV basses being good basses (I've likewise owned several inc the original large Fender logo bass) but I agree with several on here that good as they are they can't justify almost 4 figure prices BUT as has also been said it's a case of supply and demand. If people are going to think that they are significantly better than equivalent Fender basses then unfortunately/fortunately prices will remain high. Taking you up on the quote above; if you upgraded a CV as you've stated you would have a VERY good bass. However, to say that if you are going to do that you'd be better off buying a JV, you may be correct except for one small matter... where can I find a JV for £250!
 2.
With all due respect to the CV's, they are not as good. Not even nearly.
A sweeping statement... every JV bass made was better than every CV bass made to date? That's a brave statement to make!
 3. It's always difficult when a courier firm isn't 'solely' responsible from collection to point of delivery! You tend to find that one will blame the other and deflect any blame (though this is difficult for the UK courier to do as they handed it over to someone and got a signature). I'm sure we'll all keep eyes and ears peeled but I'd be starting a claim asap as I can't see this bass turning up any time soon unless a neighbour has taken it in and just not had time to knock on the recipient. It does leave you in a position whereby you are being asked to refund as the bass is undelivered! Best of luck to both of you.
 4.
Like Nick I've not used an HH cab, but quite honestly there are very few drivers dating back to the late 70's that can handle bass at a decent volume.
I used to have one of the horizontal HH 2x15 cabs (early/mid 80's) and that used to struggle with the moderate output of the monster 200w amps I used back then! Mind I loved the fact that I could drop the back seats in my old Renault 5 and the cab, amp and bass fitted in snuggly.
 5. Maybe it's going to be a surprise Christmas present and Joe will refund you a massive part of your purchase price for the inconvenience of having to wait... or maybe not!
 6.

Could be worse mine's the same overall shape but it has 'F' holes in it... now you don't want to be doing that in public and talking about F holes!
 7.
Might have to have a trip down to the 'Ox to check you boys out

I must check you chaps' bands out at some point soon...
The pair of you should try and get down to the gig on the 17th, it'll be a laugh. What was this thread about again...
 8.
My dad has piles of H||H stuff... he's got a guitar combo (somewhere in the pile in the pic below)
I take it they are stacked in the garage like that specifically for these winter moments... fire them all up and bask in the valve warmth.
 9.
Haha but sadly no! We do our own version, completely unrehearsed because the two guitarists hate the song with a vengeance. Normally by the time we play it (first encore) nobody in the room is too bothered as the alcohol is taking it's full effect so no complaints so far
I've heard JPJ's band do this song and they do a fine rendition other than far too slow... oh and too quiet! I am of course leaving myself 'wide-open' for when he get to come and see my band do a similar set to his.
 10.
I have waxed the neck of my Thumb NT when doing the rest of the bass and it seems OK to me.
Doesn't do the neck any harm whatsoever and depending upon your playing style the feeling may not be perceptible to you when you play. I've set-up and tried other people's Warwicks and some have a heavily waxed neck which I couldn't play as I felt the wax created a drag to my thumb moving on the back of the neck, yet the owners felt that my relatively unwaxed neck felt odd. It could be down to how warm your hands get and/or how dry your hands are when you play but if it feels OK then that is all that matters.
 11.
It's popular with pub bands because most of the pub-gig going public like it - for a good reason, too. IMO, it's a great song. It's an easy song to play, but a hard song to play well - not just the bass, but the whole band too. Whenever I've seen a pub band do it, 95% of the time they murder it. It's too fast, too straight, no dynamics... I'm sure JPJ's band do it spot on, though.
Come and adjudge how we do it at The Fat Ox on the 17th... can't resist shameless plugs!
 12.
As you can see from the picture, this is the 2x12 version (Eminence speakers),
Are you sure that it's a 2x12"? Looking at the width of the standard rackmount tuner built in which is 19" wide I'd say that the drivers have to be 10"... Aren't they! Just a heads up but as you are advertising it for sale you're obliged to put a price up mate.
 13.
I don't understand this listing. Listing title says "STUNNING 1983 JL series..." but then further down in the listing it says "1986 JV series Fender Precision Bass" then further on from that, we're back to "The neck date is June 1983, the body date is also 1983 and the serial number is JV54693"... When I looked the serial number up online I got this "Guitar Info - Guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1984 - 1987" Am I missing something or do the dates not add up? 1983, 1986, 1984-1987... which is it?! I'm actually REALLY interested in this bass because it could be my birth year bass, but want to be sure before acting!
Now that's what I call covering your backside in case the buyer complains to eBay/paypal... "but I said it was 198(insert final digit here)"!
 14.
Best present I have ever received was my Leatherman Wave. I use it every day and it lives in my gig bag

+1 to a Leatherman (altough our drummer uses mine more than I do lol)
Shameless plug but I have a variety of Leatherman left if anyone wants one!
 15. One that didn't get locked!
 16. We do it and the timing of those critical DCG notes does make the song. IMHO the fills and extra bits (as with all songs again IMHO) should be down to you and the band... you might have guessed that I hate bands that don't put any of themselves into a song! Coincidentally the accents/pushes in a couple of parts in the song actually sound good if the bass plays F E rather than F C Oh and don't forget the little push on the first and every other line of the chorus where you play the passing note C on the way back to start the next line on D. Sorry I don't TAB and this may not make much sense to you.
 17.
sorry for the confunsing informations. So, a set of J-Bass I mean 2 pickups, neck+bridge. a pair of P-bass I mean the two parts you need to equip a Precison Bass. Hope everythings clear now. regards
Cheers, thanks for clearing that up; it just goes to show how misunderstandings happen, as I'd have said that the split parts of a P pup are simply one pup. I'll have to retract my offer to buy as I patently misinterpreted the description/pricing.
 18.
He's already offered them here on Basschat, with a discount to BC-ers.
I'm not trying to be a killjoy and Darren does offer good deals at times but with £20 off for BCers, The Bass Merchant are still making more off each cab by selling them discounted to prospective BCers than they would if folks just hit the BIN and bought them off eBay! Just pointing out for accuracy sake.
 19. I need to clarify what you mean by a 'pair' of P pups! I see the price for a 'set' of Jazz pups is 100 euro and then you quote for a 'pair' of P pups; is the first picture what you would call a pair as I would call that a single pup (i.e. one half is useless as a pup it needs both bits and they are joined ). If you can just clarify what you call a 'pair' of P pups please.
 20. If you can supply pics of the actual pairs of P pups I'll take a pair.
 21. I've got a 4 string fretted version of this bass (same top, pup placement etc. but with added mid controls) and it is a cracking bit of kit! On their release Zon claimed these Sonus basses were a modern take on the Jazz bass and they certainly have the neck of a good Jazz bass!
 22. Just a tip but sometimes it's worth persevering with one thread and bumping it or adding pictures rather than starting new threads.
 23. If you do a search on here you'll find a few threads about waxing Warwicks so I won't bore you with how little I wax mine but one thing to say is that you shouldn't worry too much about waxing the neck. The oil in your hands should be sufficient to keep the neck from drying out and if you wax the neck and don't buff it ALL off then it will become sticky when the neck warms up as you play. I generally wipe the back of the neck with the same lemon oil that I put on the fingerboard whenever I change strings. If it doesn't 'look' dry then it is probably OK!
 24.
Was that a Longhorn as in Danelectro longhorn?
No, the Fender Longhorn 'Boner' basses.
 25.
But oh the sound......my opinion as to why they sounded so different was more to do with the neck construction - maple on maple (no skunk stripe) but the fingerboard was 'rolled' as in almost a veneer on to the already cambered neck. The result was a very 'springy' sound - not that it lacked bass tone, but the top end would cut through with a clank that was remiscent of a Rick in full flight. I kind of proved the neck was the main contributor by swapping it onto my '62 Jazz bass for a while and, sure enough, the 'springy' sound tranferred to that bass too.
I'll tell you what that is a perfect description of the tone that my PRS has and that is a maple on maple (no skunk), rolled edges etc etc and it has that 'exact' spring to the sound and it has the uncanny knack of sounding like a cross between a MM and a Ric, especially if you solo the neck pup. You must have a try of this PRS some time Howie and see if it is the same tone that you describe.
anyone use tulip wood much for bodies?
Oddly enough our very own Bass Doc produced a Tulip wood bodied Longhorn bass for Mark 'Marcus' (no not Mr Miller) and though Mark sold it on to another local mental bassist up here (Kevbucket), Kev rates it MASSIVELY and plays it in preference to his MM Cutlass or a brace of other fantastic quality basses that he owns. Something to be said for Tulip wood maybe!
