1.
think you attatched the wrong picture there! I think you meant to add the one of the 30 warwicks on your wall and sofa! oh and markbass sa450... and whats the other yellowy one?
Now come on this isn't a Warwick thread! The other yellow one is the Markbass LMK. I had the SA450 driving one EBS and the LMK driving the other (each cab was 4ohms), I tried having one cab clean and the other effected (chorus/octave/phaser or combination of)... as I say it got silly!
 2.
Always been a massive fan of the body shape (if not the headstock design) - an extremely refined and elegant take on the LP. The craft work looks superb too
There are a few subtle design merits that are not apparent from any of the pics; the edges of the bass are not as deep as the centre (convex curve on the top so it has a flat backed, sucked lozenge shape... if that is possible ), the neck isn't a traditional 4 bolt design with all four bolts going in at 90 degrees to the body, as two of the bolts anchor at a 45 degree angle and there's the retractable strap extension arm which means that the strap button fixing is moved out so that it is the equivalent of a traditional top horn and closer to the 12th/14th fret position.
 3.
...And yes I do play the bass solo from Smooth Operator when I'm noodling at home
Though I think the track is nice enough I'd never even noticed that bass bit in it! The live youtube track I listened to/watched also threw me as I initially didn't identify the bass from it's tone, then I saw that it was a Ray. Just goes to show that a Ray isn't necessarily a 1-trick-pony (just mho), especially with a bit of chorus etc.
 4.
and somehow you whittled all that down to one thunderfunk! and multiple cabs... one more on the way! thunderfunk does look a nice bit of kit.
Oh that wasn't the worst of my addiction!
 5.
in trying to see if that is true i found them listed amongst great British bass amp makers! http://www.guitarnoise.com/lesson/british-bass-amps/
No disrespect to those that have H&K Bassforce amps/combos but the BassBase and the QT amp you have for sale Luke are head and shoulders above the Bassforce; to qualify that I've owned several H&K products and Sound Control let me have one of the big BF combos on appro and it was back in the shop within hours as it just didn't have the same quality of tone of the high end H&K... again apologies to those who have BF gear but that's my opinion! In fact the ownership of H&K amps got a bit silly at one point! Warwick Protube IX H&K BB600 H&K BB400 H&K BB250
 6. I think/hope I know Bob well enough to ask this question without it derailing this thread. Something has always puzzled me about these 'glass-like' finishes and BO necks. The neck is coated in a uniform thin veneer of very hard lacquer, it is then put onto a bass and with strings, brought up to tension which applies a bow to the neck (I'm assuming the neck does retain full truss rod adjustment); why doesn't the lacquer crack or craze as the neck starts to flex/bow? I can accept that a normal fretless/fretted neck has some give for the wood fibres to move (the fretted would have more latitude with the fret slots) but something which I visualize as a sheet of ice (the epoxy coating) surely can't have that much give... can it? I know that this is one of those things you just accept because there are loads of basses out there with this type of finish but is there a risk that the 'glass' will shatter?
 7.
Shame on you for not sharing the Bolin love. They are pretty rare (not as in vintage and all that) but they come up now and again and are very light indeed. The fact that they have the best piezo tone ever (yes I stated that as a fact even though it is only any opinion) is a bonus as well.
Let's be honest, we both know why I didn't mention the Bolin... because I'm buying the next one that becomes available! Any way Owen, you're a bit late to the party here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=114484
 8.
You could look up interviews with Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet - he used HK on their reform tour.
IIRC the guy from the Manics was endorsed by H&K as well.
 9.
DFA ?
Does F All
 10. I asked the same question here. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=109198
 11.
I've heard a very exciting combination with 2x10 and 2x12 inches speakers in one cab and sounded amazing.Check Schroeder cabs mate
I don't think that's a lot to do with the fact that it is a combination of 10's and 12's and more a case of the cab design having a mid range bump that makes them sound the way that they do.
 12. Do you have an accurate weight? Is it a trick of the camera angle or is the neck slightly out of true. It looks like the E string comes in over as it comes down and the G string does the opposite, to the point where the G sting is nearly off the fingerboard; the bridge saddles also look like they are all bumped across to the left of centre!
 13. I must be in a very small minority because I don't really mind nor care what the neck width or profile is, I feel quite happy playing any/either. I have a pencil necked early Warwick, a chunky full profiled Bolin (WoT loved this neck when he tried it as it was reminiscent of his vintage P basses), flat backed graphite Zon and a couple of other basses that fall between these and I've never felt that I found one better or more comfortable than another. A lot of that could be down to my playing style (thumb behind the neck not gripping it), whereas others with different styles might need a certain neck shape. One thing I HATE though is sharp un-radiused fingerboard edges! It would massively put me off a bass if it wasn't rolled on the edge or well played in.
 14.
so the answer, not worth doing! I may have to explore ebay, I've never used it before.
I used to love eBay... not so much these days! I'm sure you know how it works but necessary evils like; listing/final value fees, having to set up paypal accounts, paypal fees, money being held till buyers leave you feedback etc. these things will bug you but if you want to use eBay you have to play by their rules. Sometimes it is worth it but other times you wonder why you bother.
 15. Hey Luke unfortunately you'll be offered next to nothing... seriously next to nothing. As has been pointed out shops have to make money and they aren't in it for the odd £20-£30. As Loz has stated, the retailer will be selling for maybe a bit more than you have it advertised for BUT they have to factor in that someone will want to haggle and they have to factor in VAT (that one I still don't get but every time I ask about trading in at shops it gets quoted), they will want to make a couple of hundred as that's often the mark-up they have in the other stock. I'd say that you'd be offered at best a couple hundred quid and tbh I don't think you'd get a lot more if you were trading against something in the shop. The shop has you over a barrel; you NEED to sell it, they don't need to buy it as they have sufficient new stock to worry about selling! eBay may be your best bet especially if you offer shipping to Europe.
 16.
Kubicki, best slap bass - check Vail Johnson
Just checked out this example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3kqYDm44M Purely commenting on the tone of the bass I'd have to say that I actually preferred the fingerstyle tone of the Kubicki rather than the slap tone.
 17. +1 to most of the above and don't forget that whatever guitarists can do with a pic, bassists can do it better; try pinched harmonics with a pick... it sounds mint and really messes with your guitarists head!
 18.
I can't help but admire your use of a bass stand neck clip nailed to the wall to hold your french doors open. A good illustration as it is juxtaposed with the one that bass is sitting in. ;-) oh, nice bass by the way................ A
Yes, the newly built garage didn't have dampers for the doors so I improvised... glad you didn't notice that the white 'stopper' retaining the neck clip was actually the rubber feet off a bass cab painted white!
 19.
You really are going to have to stop posting pics of that green Bolin WH, every time i see it i want one but can't afford it. I love the headstocks on those, a fretless version would be my dream bass Very cruel!
Sorry! If it helps; if you find an Amber one I'll let you have my Green one... and I'll get it defretted.
 20.
Owen!!!
Yep that's the other one (pictured above).
 21.
Just bought a couple of Leatherman tools from John. Top Bloke - Has some top kit too - always better than he lets on. Bob.
Cheers Bob. If anyone needs/wants a stocking filler or something for their gigbag/toolbox, give me a shout as I have a large collection of various used (but excellent condition) Leatherman and Victorinox tools; from genuine Leatherman MICRA for £5 to Leatherman PST and KICK for £15... and a whole bunch of other stuff besides!
 22.
Bet it's a bit out of my price range though hehe.
Not sure what your price range is but it's one of those 'if you need to ask, you can't afford one' type basses!
 23. It's back and relisted for £4k... bargain! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123
 24. I think that there are only two Bolin basses on Basschat (I used to own the other one as well ) and possibly only a couple more in the whole of the UK, so this may be undersubscribed with owners but I think the Bolin deserves it's own porn thread! The 4 string that I now own... The 5 string that I sold on Basschat and has passed around a couple of others... Made by John Bolin and designed by Ned Steinberger, these basses were only produced for a short period, though still available as a custom option from Bolin/'House of Guitars' (JB's new name for his Bolin Co.). John makes custom guitars and basses for the likes of Billy F. Gibbons, Jimmy Page, Steve Miller, Dusty Hill, Lou Reed, Doc Watson, Albert King, Bo Didley, Joe Perry, and Keith Richards & Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones. They are fabulous basses and the piezo tone (if the bass has that option; both of the above do) is truly excellent. The piezo can be soloed and it has a lovely airy breathiness to it, or if blended with the EMG magnetics it can add a pleasing top end. The locking sperzels are great. The arm extension is a stroke of genius (even if you do have to watch out for the screw working loose, the old matchstick and UPVA glue sorts it). The overall tone is superb BUT some folks have commented that it doesn't do that Miller slap thang... not the end of the world and tbh I've managed to get a decent slap tone for the odd thumb n pop. All in all I think they are an excellent bass and the Bolin that I now have will never be for sale (refer me to this thread if you ever see me contemplating it), in fact I'd happily buy another but it would need to be the colour of my old 5 string.
 25.
maybe contact someone there? i believe the main guy is Steve grey/gray...
Over the years, Steve's been involved in one way or another with quite a few of the major Music shops in Newcastle. IIRC he then worked for Fender or one of the biggie manufacturers before GuitarGuitar. re. importing and taxes; 'IF' Lakland will sell direct, you can expect (i.e. you will) to pay about 22% in various fees and remember that tax is on the TOTAL inc' shipping fees!
