We're not hi-jacking the thread, I'm sure honest and open views about the merits of the various drivers and cabs will interest people looking at a thread about the new Aggies.
 2.
Don't worry about that. There is no sacrifice in tone whatsoever by moving to a Barefaced Midget.
Unfortunately Frank I've tried the Midget and it wasn't to my taste... each to his own but I stuck with the DBs!
 3.
Bug... I can see why though..not hankering after NEO's against a 40lb cab anyway..but I hear your cabs are in good nick so I would have been after them oh well..keep looking..
I keep thinking that something that weighed next to nothing like the Barefaced or many of the Neo cabs, would be worth the sacrifice in tone (just my opinion but I've yet to be blown away by the tone of Neo cabs regardless of whether it is cab design or the driver) but whenever I A/B Neo/DB cabs the DBs just suit me better!
 4. Is that a 'normal' LX as it appears to have a splated top? I'm not that up on the latest LX models but I thought that they were generally flame maple bodies... saying that if you paid £1800 then it may be the SE version.
 5.
"THE" PF tribute mate , Shine On
I remember seeing that advertised on BGG and wondered who had the gig.
 6. That looks smart as Dave, another fine looking job by DW! It does raise one question... what bliddy PF trib band have you joined like?
 7. I have the self same trouble. There are light basses out there but to save yourself grief I'd define what you mean by light! IMHO it needs to be lighter than 9lb to qualify as light, whereas I've bought basses off Basschat whereby owners have made claims of 'featherweight' and 'the lightest bass I've ever owned'... one can only assume that the latter comment was from someone economical with the truth, who has only ever owned one bass as the bass in question was closer to 11lb! The Fender Precision Lyte basses are pretty light and many of the new CV Jazz and Precision basses are around about 9lb (the two I've owned were just over). Though many claim that the Lakland Skylines 'can' be light I've yet to find one that is genuinely under 9lb (x2 DJ's were both way over 9lb and the JO was the 11lb offender). As has been mentioned there is the 'cricket bat' option and SOME hollowbodies (though beware some of them have solid cores and the extra large body size on some, really bumps the weight), such as the violin basses. If your budget stretches you can find some very lightweight Warwick Streamer basses but they need to be the early to mid 80's ones; I have two, one of them is 7lb 7oz the other about 8lb. I also have a Zon Sonus which is 8.5lb. The obvious which I'm sure you already do is to wear a nice wide strap. Best of luck from a fellow sufferer.
 8.
Hopefully, that will free up a few DB112's around here
Not mine... I'm not trading down to Neos!
 9. Count me intrigued!
 10.
MB1. Nobody?
What's a trade for a short Mono strap worth... genuine!
 11.
Very nice indeed, and only slightly spoiled by the fact that they all probably sound like Jimmy Nail when they talk.
Phwargh... someone get me their telephone numbers noo!
 12.

Tell me you weren't tempted to step up to that mic and shout "Good evening Newcastle"!
 13.
Orange amp purchased about 3 months ago, mint cond. Still have the original box for it. Hiwatt cab is pretty old, will have it re skinned before sale, still sounding mint. Will upload pictures by tomorrow, make me some offers, Im looking for a quick sale!
Same comment as your other sale thread for the same gear... you need to put a price on mate!

 15.
My band is due to start gigging in the new year and were looking to get a PA system What kind of power would we need? We'll be playing pubs and clubs mainly. Also, any brands to recommend??? Cheers, Rob
Get double what you think you need and then you'll just about be OK! We have a 12 channel Soundcraft desk (basic but noise free and does the job, though we have a cheapy graphic in a small 2U rack with the effects) with 2 Aux for use with my 3 piece (all 3 sing) and we have just enough channels; drums can eat up 3-6 channels with no problem, then you are talking one for each instrument or vocal (don't forget if the guitarist uses an acoustic that needs a channel as well as the electric). The two aux means we can use one for monitors and one for the reverb (desk doesn't have built in effects). The 6 piece band that I am in (5 of us sing) ALSO have a 12 channel desk (Yamaha MG range which is very good and comprehensive especially for the price) but we sub mix the drums in a 4 channel mini-mixer to free up channels... wish we'd bought the bigger desk in this series. Both bands share a set of RCF powered tops and a single bass bin with a combined RMS of 2200watts; plenty headroom for pub gigs and manages small to medium clubs fine. If budget allows I'd go for powered speakers especially as some of the newer ones are dead light and the set-up/strip down is dead easy. These are just top of the head idea of what we have but your needs might be different, as may your budget.
 16.
I'm taking this off the market for now. I noticed that the paintwork on the back was acquiring a few more small cracks so I sent it off to MusicMan for investigation. It turns out that the paintwork was not cured properly so they are completely replacing the body with a new one. Not sure yet how long this will take but I will put it up for sale again when I get it back. Please PM me if you would be interested in what will be a new unused Bongo Stealth HS with a 4 month old neck. Will be a great bargain for someone.
Ask them to give you a sunburst/vintage burst body and I'd be interested!

 18. These 'might' be good for me BUT we are talking mm difference as to whether they will fit! My Bolin has a headstock that has a very short distance from the nut to the locking sperzel tuner and I've found that standard long scale flats simply snap as there is no silk downscaling or that the spindle of the tuner is so skinny the string gets overwound (believe me after snapping x2 LaBella and X1 Thomastik G string I know standard scale won't work). I've measured my scale length for the G string and at 90mm from the CENTRE of the ball end to the silk it'll be a few mm short (the silk will be in the nut groove) but measured from the start of the string proper to the silk at 90mm I'm fine! The other thing is what distance are the other strings from the ball end to the silk? I tried a short scale set and the G was fine but then the E string was way too short. To further muddy the waters, I have a full set of new La Bellas that we could do a deal on but it all depends on the string lengths! Phew long winded but I'm tired of shelling out on flats to try on this bass and snapping them (I have 3 other sets of flats with brand new E A D strings and a snapped G string).
 19.
Thank goodness....... and TBH I'm not surprised, normally its in there somewhere - these are no 'one trick pony' basses and tonally its not hard to coax what you want out ot them - Thats why I love 'em.....
GAH! Sorry Bob but I'm going to stick with my early Warwicks so I'm going to sell this and probably my Zon Sonus Custom! OK we'll see where we go with £1000. Obviously no trades unless you have an early Warwick Streamer.
 20.
(or £60 if you also buy my head http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=hughes+kettner bargain! )
Now that is a bargain!
 21.
That's the first time I've seen that Ebay ad - today I think there's abiout 2 or 3 threads already about it
The thing is, unless people are a bit more specific in what 'their' thread title is about other folks don't bother looking at the other threads. I should know, I started a thread on the same bass because I hadn't read the existing thread with the title 'MMM Tempting!'... that thread could be about anything, how is the casual browser meant to realise that is about an overpriced Ric (not a direct dig at that thread starter but it does help if the thread title actually gives some kind of clue)?
 22.
Hello, I'm thinking of buying a 4x10 cab for use on loud function gigs, and a few in my price range have popped up, but they're all 8 ohm impedance. Is there a way of rewiring the cab to make it 4 ohms? Thanks, James
The short answer is an emphatic NO! Do some research and you are likely to find that a sensitive 8ohm cab will likely give you more than a less sensitive 4ohm cab, there are loads more factors to take into account than just the 'quoted' ohmage of the cab. You don't say what you have already but I'm assuming the new cab would be used as a standalone and not added to your existing cab (which I'm again guessing is 4ohm)!
 23.
I make a 1/3rd of £700 - £800 less than £500
That's what I was getting at; the JV's 'should' be worth about 1/3 of a Fender but you try finding one for less than £500! As to where I get the 1/3 figure from, that is based upon their respective new values (I know they weren't exactly a 1/3rd of the price) and what any other similar manufacturers instruments are worth from that period... actually saying that if you look at the value of similar budget instruments from that period that are probably of as good a build quality the JV still far outstrips the competition in rising values.
 24.
So what is a "reasonable" price for a jv squier bass?????????
TBH it's a 27-28 year old Japanese copy of a Fender bass so theoretically it should be worth about 1/3 as much as an equivalent Fender from that period... lets say £700 - £800 for the Fender. If you can find a JV for less than £500 you are doing well and some folks will want you to pay in excess of £1000 (i.e. MORE than the real article), which in the cold light of day is silly. However, as has been stated it's a case of supply and demand; not too many being sold (wonder how many were produced and in what ration to the equivalent Fender product), loads of people wanting them, so prices are high. Still wish I had one of mine but I'm not going to cry about it as I've owned and sold better basses and don't regret selling them, it's simply me being petulant because I could have still had an instrument worth x5-10 times what I paid for it!
 25.
Good point... but note my hardware mention... let's say s/h CV P for £200, Wizard pickup for £50, good 'tronics w.pots & jack for £20, plus US nickel elephant ear tuners, US nickel bridge, I'm guessing here but say getting on £100... you've got an outlay of nearly £370, you'll lose £120+ on resale unless you part it and even then you'd struggle, but if you'd spent £490 in the first place you wouldn't lose a bean I have vast experience in justifying GAS expenditure
Hmmm but my view is that you'd be buying a 'used' JV for a sum getting on towards a four figure sum (where can I get a good un for £490) and yet I've personally owned a CV Jazz with full EMG pups which I bought and sold for £200 (in fact I bought and sold it TWICE for those figures) and I've also very recently bought and sold a CV Precision which was upgraded with the very things that you quoted apart from the tuners being reverse geared Gotohs and all for less than £200! I agree with you that by and large the JV is 'likely' to be a better bass than the CV but at about x4 the price the JV looks a bit overpriced... all just one persons opinion though and doesn't stop me also having GAS.
