  1. Yeah, better frontman than singer. The other singer had no stage presence. Thanks - I'm going to be stuck with that image all day!
  2. These are popular in pub folk/acoustic sessions... where everyone sits and stands around the room with their instrument and play where they stand/sit. It's designed to clamp to a pub table, and may not work on an amp. Doesn't even work on all pub tables either.. not if the table has those boards around the edge with not much overhang. But they do stop your guitar getting knocked over, and you can hang ukulele or mandolin etc from it.
  3. Same here. While the plot of the series was managed a bit, the sense of excitement at playing IOW was very real
  4. Yes, a DAW is the most flexible of all practice tools. You can make up your own backing tracks with a simple drum and chord track (or an MP3). You can record what you play and listen back for improvements etc. And at the end you can master your session down to MP3/WAV and force other people to listen to it 😉.
  5. Final episode tonight.... let's see what final couple of chapters the producers have managed and story-boarded for us!
  6. Yes, he could have said it all ina couple of mins.... but Kudos to him, he managed to stretch it to over 13 mins 😉. It's ironic really........ we say that attention spans have reduced in the internet age, yet YT vids seem to thrive on this kind of bloated presentation.
  7. Well , OP is having trouble “making their mind up” ….. I’ll get me coat😀
  8. Just discovered Gwenifer Raymond, an amazing solo acoustic instrumental guitarist..... She is doing some dates soon....... booked.
  9. Found a pic on FB (well it's taken from a video):
  10. Yes, on Doug's negative side he did lead a bogus version of VU for a short while, and also switched from bass to guitar first chance he got. Pretty cool that you saw that infamous version of VU though.
  11. The subject even got covered in Only Fools and Horses
  12. This came up on my FB suggestions. A 13(!) minute video on counting into the song. Any thoughts, opinions or anecdotes on counting in? Should it be the drummers job?
  13. That drummer was drafted in via the musical director…. Not the audition process.
  14. Or Arkansas pronounced Arkinsaw.
  15. Not exactly 'my', not exactly 'a gig', and not on bass, but............. My first 'gig' since lockdown: I joined a band (on vocals) for 4 songs at a pub gig. Punk covers, went down really well, got some good feedback from the crowd and it felt great to be back performing. Still buzzing!
  16. Ooh, that’s very cynical! Welcome to Basschat😃!
  17. I think there is a similar explanation for ‘Ye’ as in Ye Olde Tea Shoppe. It was never pronounced with a Y ….. there just used to be a symbol (thorn?) for a TH sound and it looked like a cross between a Y and T. Sometimes printers would just use Y assuming that everyone would get it. Or maybe some later people read the thorn(?) as a Y.
  18. I’m going to suggest one who is not well known despite being in a very well known band. Doug Yule was in the Velvet Underground after John Cale ‘left’ and played some pretty cool bass lines. But he has been airbrushed out of the band history.
  19. Sounds like a great opportunity, but of course not so straightforward. I'm not in a position to advise, but I do suggest you take into account the old adage(cliché even) : you regret the things you don't do more than the things you do do.
  20. In my original stint playing in bands, it was all originals bands (apart from one Ramones trib who did a handful of gigs). That was 'pre-children'. When the kids got older, I started doing live music again... first open mics (mix of covers and originals) then formed a covers band. Main reason for covers was easier to get gigs... I didn't think there was any option for the older musician to get originals gigs. However I have since seen from some BC members that it is in fact possible. I have an outlet for original music in home recording. To answer the OP question... for me originals are easier. I consider myself quite able to write songs or parts for songs, but I don't have a great ear or chops so not good out copying what someone else is doing. Although there's lots of help out there now for covers.... tab, vids etc so my ears are less of an issue.
  21. I'm not one for modding (or gear acquisition in general). I'd only be likely to change tuners as part of a repair... i.e. the tuners are causing me actual problems.
  22. Lisa O’Neil - Rock The Machine. So simple and beautiful.
  23. Same... but no need for markers. Up full for me.
  24. Lol, those of us working in IT (and various other disciplines) know that the dreaded word for users to use is 'Surely'!
