  1. Agree with previous comments…. they could easily have put together a competent band from tha applications they must have had. But the artificial selection they did make was a reasonable simulation of a Join My Band scenario.
  2. Looking forward to the next episode tonight folks! It's gonna focus on the rehearsal room..........
  3. Question to OP …. would these effects make more sense if you can set the timing to the beat/tempo of the song ( as is possible in a DAW or if your pedal has tap tempo feature)?
  4. There may be some expectation of haggling….
  5. Probably stretching Grunge too far, but how about Cannonball by The Breeders?
  6. I'll go along with what some others have said..... some music is lyric-centric and some isn't. I do like a lot of music where a lot of the enjoyment comes from the lyrics. For example The Fall.... Mark E Smith is a great wordsmith. Take the Sex Pistols for example.... it was the lyrics which raised them up a level, even though they were already good musically. However I am often guilty of lyric-blindness..... for example at a folk show (where you are supposed to listen to words more than anywhere else) I'll often find myself focusing on the musical layers rather than the lyrical narrative.
  7. I'm getting on OK with the first Clawhammer piece........ but am having one problem. My downstroke fingernail is wearing thin and not making a very well defined strike on the string. The other time I use that nail for music is Ukulele (nylon strings so maybe that's not wearing it down much) and whe nI strum the acoustic guitar without a pick. One option is to do only finger picking and placrum stumming on guitar. Anyone recommend any other options? I'm currently trying out a banjo finger pick put on upside down (to cover the nail rather than the pad of the finger), but it is a bit awkward and is getting caught in the strings. Maybe a matter of more practice though. I'm also thinking of getting a acrylic nail stuck on.... any thoughts?
  8. Not sure that's true..... I think soul/groove gets as much love here as other genres.
  9. I'd say that in practice it works both ways round. The company is 'endorsing' the artist by accepting their endorsement of the product. I mean: I favour Jim Dunlop picks..... but I doubt they would put my name to their product.
  10. Judging by the two or three tracks I’ve heard on this thread I reckon they would be fantastic live.
  11. I guess Spiceworld was OK in terms of it's target audience.
  12. If you take away the documentaries, and the ones where the band are played by actors, I don't suppose it leaves much. But there is one well-celebrated example: Head - The Monkees
  13. In terms of more auxiliary items........ Big water bottle. Set list marked up with a few 'cheats' Stage clothes
  14. Last band (on guitar/vox) One Guitar, spare strings. Wireless kit plus extra lead as backup Pedal board Normally amp simulator pedal, only take amp if PA not suitable Mic and stand Not much in the way of spares really.
  15. Having a listen to The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour Here's the understated classic "Iceland":
  16. I don't really agree with the view that TAB makes you play the finger position rather than the note. The finger position in the TAB is just a suggestion of where to play the note and most players, even me, know the alternative positions of each note. I mean it mainly involves being able to count to five. I often re-position to my preferred way.
  17. Oh, and IMO the OP is not overthinking it, discussion is the reason we come to a discussion (or 'chat' as the site name styles it) forum. I'm looking forward to more bass-centric philosophical discussion points from the OP.
  18. A bass guitar - my take It has to be based on a 'guitar' design rather than double bass etc. It has to be designed with with general intention of playing lower register than the guitar. If a player takes it mainly into higher registers then fair enough, but the instrument itself remains a bass guitar.
  19. Didn't that group pick the drummer who hated reggae?
  20. Yes it was interesting that the woman on bass was the most straightforward character. No ego or personality stuff, just played the right bassline for the required style.
  21. Any watching "Rock Till We Drop" on BBC2... first episode was tonight? Martin Kemp and Lady Leshur are forming two bands of older musicians (average age 70's) to play off at the Isle of White festival. I enjoyed the first show, looking forward to the other 3. What did you think?
  22. 4 one hour Gospel shows on BBC Sounds, presented by Mica Paris (who knows a thing or two about gospel). Covers various styles... here's link to the first show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0014f33 I've listened to all 4... very good.
  23. Just discovered Rort Menace, and got the latest EP from Bandcamp.... thrashy Aussie goodness:
  24. Yep... 10 beats to the bar. 10 notes in an octave (or dectave as it will be known after decimalisation)
  25. I get the feeling that some tab sites 'harvest' tabs from other sites or are more like a portal. Doesn't help with quality control!
