Thanks, Good idea, I'll take a look at a picguard template, see which is closerish... but got a rear rout body, as I don't want a guard... just plain wood. Might be off the end of the neck for profile, and off the body walls for width. Oh well wasn't in a rush! and i'll wait a while before picking up the dremel if i need to.. Please keep the advice 'n guidance coming

So you recon sand the neck, rather than the body? I thought mod the body due to the necks taper. I had a little look last night, but 'tother way round, I drew round the neck heel, cut out, and offered the gap upto the body pocket... and as the neck and pocket are on a taper just sorting the heel profile may help a bit. Paper was too flimsy, i'll try both ways with thin card later.. But, If anyone is localish i could drop it off to for a proper job it would be most welcome...

Slim Jazz Bass Neck (Heel width listed as 63.8mm) would like to meet Sporty Rear Rout P Bass Body (Pocket width listed as 63mm) for a lovely fit at the heel. (No Scratchplates or Pickguards please)... and I realy don't want a c0ck up on the first date! So any Basschat Luthiers, Budding Bass Builders or Woodworkers in South East London / Kent BR6 area-ish willing to take a look, assist or advise?... Please... Someone must be local and know-their-onions...

FINISHED-ish : Budget P Bass Bitsa Build
PaulThePlug replied to PaulThePlug's topic in Build Diaries
Yep twin--cam... Neck Arrived and it looks good, I like the light Rosewood, given the fretboard a quick lemon oiling, neck an headstock finish is really smooth and i'd say ready for the Danish Oil... Frets shiny and ends good... Neck / Body join needs a look... Body was listed as 63mm, Neck at 63.8mm, so a knats over... better than under and baggy i spose... When trying to check, my digi verniers keep sliding and giving false readings... But the neck heel profile fit to the body should be quite close. Any Luthier or Woodworking Types in the SE / BR6 vacinity? - please shout! -
whats the bass and what strings are on it? Some super thick n daft tension?

Any one?.. The above 'EMG' one or like the one below in black plastic and without the corner screw holes would be ideal!.. -

I likes Ibanez... I have 2 GSR200, and a SR600 The SR is a classic, necks are luverly, narrow 38mm Shallow front to back, Super comfy worn pebble body... Versatile Humbuckers... But recommend pickin up a few and trying before ya buy... I started in lockdown, so just ordered the GSR200 Gio off the net. https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/sr300e_02.html https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/sr300eb_02.html Or if ya like something a little Rocky n different... lot of love for Harley Benton as a brand... https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_marquess_4_black_stain.htm?o=39&search=1627228773 and then there is the Ibby RGB or a Charvel Jackson...

LOL... you could always put some thin line 1.5mm or 3mm tape lines on, till ya get ya eye and ear in... first 5 or 7 and the 12th n 15th... to get ya going..

Unlined adds to the Kudos and mistique... I think it would have to be unlined and start on ear and muscle memory rather than watching all the time? Thinking about it, have you ever seen a lined violin, with the added faff of draggin that hairlybthing to make a squeak!
-
I'm still working my way around frets!
-
unlined looks so so so much better... gonna have side markers surely? there... thats not helped the GAS at all has it...

from the site it reads that the heal is the same at 2.5" but the F PnJ necks are 20 fret and the MM 22 fret... and i dont think the extra fret is on an overhang so you will need to lengthen the neck pocket... Dunno if that might be an issue as on a bit of a taper? Are you making the body? I got a P Body from Luthiers Warehouse, ('bay then deal direct...) Rick was real helpful in what i was after, holes and the like... might be able to do a neck pocket same dimensions but just moved the 21st's fret amount in to keep the bridge in the same place? You might be able to get the dimensions nut to heel of both necks from Status? https://manchesterguitartech.co.uk/fret-and-nut-calculators/fret-calculator/ 20F 18 18.16 558.27 19 17.14 575.41 20 16.17 591.58 21F 18 18.16 558.27 19 17.14 575.41 20 16.17 591.58 21 15.27 606.85 So 15mm further in to the neck pocket (Std is 99mm, 115mm? - any 'odd' can be sorted in the intonation adjust...

FINISHED-ish : Budget P Bass Bitsa Build
PaulThePlug replied to PaulThePlug's topic in Build Diaries
With the emphasis on Budget for the build... Body... ended up with a dink corner on the pickup route, between the two split halves about the D string run... you can just see in the pic, but i didn't notice till it arrived, so got a bit of a discount as a 'seconds' body. Neck... one was on the bay with bids, rather than BIN, you can see a small slight knot on the back [Edit: Total Smooth]... So worked out about half price! Still waiting on delivery... Twas due Thurs-ish... Bloody Herpes! And waiting for all the Chinese Chrome... Gotoh-a-like 201B Bridge, Sandberg-a-like Angled 3 String Tree, Usual-look "Petal' Machineheads, -gonna give em a twist 'n go with coppa slip to try and smooth the mating surface 'tween cog 'n worm, then clean and dab with vaseline to hopefully get a smooth feel... Also Jackplate 'n Neckplate and Strap Buttons, along Split P pickup with a plain flat, sealed-look cover to arrive... Stands me in about £150ish... So Squier Monies when done... hopefully it plays 'n sounds as good... otherwise i should of just bought a Harley B, Std Black or the 51 and tele'd the head. -
3D Printer Help_Split Coil Pickup Surround
PaulThePlug replied to PaulThePlug's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thats An idea... not really got anything to suit... and prolly end up making it look worse, not so bad if painting the body. shame they didnt find the missing bit, or notice before shipping. Waiting for a neck to arrive another idea would be getting a bit of veneer in light rosewood... easier to cut than plastic... got a feeling i'll just leave it... -
Antoria P Bass: Pickup rewind or replace?
PaulThePlug replied to Bassfingers's topic in Bass Guitars
just @ then start typing the name (no space after the @ and a menu starts pulling up names... there is also a 'feedback for KiOgon' and most others to add some blah blah... I had to ar$e about counter boreing the cavity with a 20mm then a 32mm, to clear the tags, 5mm deep for the length of the pot shafts - body issue, not KiOgon's Loom... -
Very Nice... Strange that those knobs are also on the Premium and Prestige SR models...

bay - Pair of CLOSED PICKUP COVERS in BLACK, CREAM or WHITE to fit USA P Bass guitar - and drill ya own holes?
-
Anyone do 3D printing or know their onions? So my Rear Rour P Bass Body Arrived... but with a 'knock' on the corner of the Split P Cavity. I took the offer of a tenner discount, as i'ts a budget and first build... anything to keep the cost down... and a likelyhood of making a mistake or two along the way... But perhaps i'd of been better off sening it back for a repacement... Oh well! Searching the net for some sort of surround or bezzel to cover the gap... Found this pic - custom made in metal from 'frets on the net', US and Big $ - looks nice though... Next up is this from Allparts but £30 plus p+p... Nice, practical... Ideally without the mounting holes. Found this, looks like ya BWB 3 ply, but Jazz Only... without mounting holes would look better. I message our favourite custom pickguard guy 'earlpilaz' following the love for his Harley B scratchplates... but gonna be £25ish due to the work involved. Anyone 3D printing that has any ideas... Black, 5mm wide surround bezzel to cover, Thin profile-wise 2mm? preferably without mounting holes... More like the ones round the ears of the EMGs, but if it needs be squarer like the allparts one for substance and ease of making. I also found this £25ish... 'prolly 'good for metal' but a NO from me... I'd rather the gap! Any help would be most welcome, otherwise it will have to stay as is, edge painted in screening paint, and just hope it's not to visable when the pickup is fitted. Sticky Back Jazz ones could be a 'thing' for PJ's...
-
plus not visable on a mobile...

Had a @KiOgon P Bass loom for my bitsa... quick, neat and tidy job...
