  1. Killer B String but not for me (1 string too many, not into multiscale either)
  2. I guess fewer returns = fewer trucks/ferries/planes. Even if we assume the same number, then they would still be lighter and consuming less fuel and kerosene. No?
  3. I get why Thomann is/was so customer friendly. Ordering an instrument online (i.e., no chance of trying it out in a shop) and also from abroad can be risky. To lower customers' risk perceptions, Thomann had to make returns super easy: Order it, try it, return it if you don't like it and we even pay for your return (something most of our local retailers don't do, at least the big three as far as I know). The problem is not only the negative impact on Thomann's margins (which they seemed to be ok with) but also the negative impact on the environment (i.e. carbon footprint). That's also a big problem in other industries, especially (fast) fashion. It even has a name there: wardrobing.
  4. Agree, let's see how Thomann responds.
  5. Agree. I am also concerned that we could end up with higher prices. I can imagine that Thomann kept GG/Andertons/PMT on their toes and with them out of the equation (or at least being less competitive due to higher prices and hassle), the big three have even less of an incentive to offer good (for us) prices. Further, I remember reading that they also have or had a buying consortium called GAP, which isn't good news to us consumers either.
  6. Great example. Applied to basses: Stingray Special and Stingray Classic. BTW, I am still looking for a Classic in natural with maple fingerboard 😉
  7. I am not a Fender fanboy either (don't have a single Fender bass) but I am interested in their history. Looks like they tried several different models over the years (e.g., the Dimension bass most recently) but somehow customers always only want a P or a J (and, to a lesser degree, a PJ).
  8. This one also only shows JJ, PP, PJ and P basses, no PPP ones The World of Musical Instruments Brochures - Fender Japan Boxer Catalog 198x (yokochou.com)
  9. Yes, I checked it out. I can see a slanted double P and a slanted PJ but not a slanted triple P
  10. PMT list them too now. Does not surprise me as Andertons, GG and PMT have (or had, don't know) a buying consortium called GAP https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/fender-boxer-series-pj-bass-rw-torino-red
  11. Quickly checked his channel. 45 reviews between April and November plus several first impressions videos that will be followed by review videos at a later stage. Yes, would be great to get Spector basses sent to me for first impressions/review videos. Much better than buying them. My bank account and my wife would appreciate it too 😉
  12. Yes, something did not look right and now I know what it was. 👍
  13. Thanks. Cool stuff. The first one with the 3 slanted pickups looks killer. Is that one real or someone's Photoshop dream?
  14. Good point. I like this guy (except for the claw gimmick) but I don't understand his business model. How can he have so many basses? Has he won the lottery? Does he have a shop? I can see that he has a reverb shop but without any listings. Does EBMM (and/or other companies) pay him? I also want to have so many basses 😁
  15. Any idea why they call it "Boxer"? The headstock says "Jazz Bass Special". Why not call it just that? A PJ with a P body, without a pickguard and with a J neck = Jazz Bass Special. Simples.
  16. Now we are talking. Flamed maple top and binding. Definitely more like an anniversary model. Would like that one in red, of course 😎
  17. Saw both the red and green ones on GG's website. Here is a link to the red one: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/210105365546025--fender-boxer-series-pj-bass-torino-red-rosewood-fingerboard What I don't get is that it says "The Boxer Precision Bass" in the text but "Jazz Bass Special" on the headstock. The nut width is 1.5'' (like a Jazz) but the body looks like a P. And why "Boxer"? Confusing 🥴 BTW, isn't that the one Duff McKagan used and that his sig bass is modelled on (in white and black and not red, of course)?
  18. Yes, for the 70th anniversary I also expected them to release something that looks more like a 51 (but with some modern elements). Well, maybe that will be released later in the year. The two new basses officially celebrate Fender's 75th anniversary. However, the P bass is also turning 70, so they may release (a) model(s) to celebrate that too. Maybe later in the year. I think last year's 60th anniversary Jazz basses (MIA and MIM) also got released in July or August. So, let's see.
  19. GG also lists them now: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/fender/fsr-and-limited-editions/?Ordering=2&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=New+Fenders+Released!&utm_campaign=EMAIL_FENDER_2021_01_12 I agree, I also expected something better for the 70th/75th anniversary. Both look a bit meh. Maybe there will be more? Will check out Fenders virtual booth at the virtual Winter Namm next week.
  20. Ok, the finish of the green one is called "Absinth Frost", well, that explains a lot 😉
  21. Did some googling, looking for the 70th anniversary P bass and found two Fender 75th anniversary P basses on the CME website. The first one is the "Fender 75th Anniversary Commemorative Precision Bass 2-Color Bourbon Burst" and the second one the "Fender 75th Anniversary Precision Bass Diamond Anniversary". Looking at the prices, I guess the first one is MIA and the second one MIM. You can find the specs here: https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/fender-75th-anniversary-commemorative-precision-bass-1158098 https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/fender-75th-anniversary-precision-bass-diamond-anniversary-1158094
  22. Jibba Jabba? Hmm. Of course, JIBBA JABBA!!!! 😀
  23. IC. TBH, "CBXNT DX IV" is a fitting name for such a [censored] bass 😁 What were they smoking?
