I agree with the others. It is a fair price but I would try to get the asking price down a bit. These Euros with the solid maple wings (instead of the alder/walnut/maple or burl sandwich) are rare and great. If you want gold hardware instead of the chrome one, then ask Mark at Bass Direct to get it for you. He did it for my Euro 77 as I prefer gold over chrome too. He had the tuners in stock and ordered the bridge for me. Finally, if you want your Euro to sound even closer to a NS-2, then replace the TP with the Haz 9V. BD has it in stock too. Enjoy!

Spector fans! Hope you are all fine and staying safe. This showed up in my YT feed today. Cool limited run Spectors with Ziricote tops. I have never heard of that wood but I think it looks great. I really like what the Ish guys are doing. In the video, Jesse is playing a NS-5. However, I really dig the the Spectorbird with the pale moon ebony FB. ๐ Hope they'll make a video featuring that one too.

The bass is not my cup of tea either but it has an interesting story:
-
Agree and then they should finally fix the wrong "boost only" info on the website too: Euro4 LX by Spector Bass Guitars CONTROLS Volume, Volume, Treble Boost, Bass Boost
-
Yes, the Haz 18V is in their NS4. I comes with three knobs instead of the usual four: volume, blend, and stacked bass and treble. I got it for one of my Fortes. The NS4 normally comes with two EMG 35DCx soapbars. I have two EMG 35P4x instead, so technically it is a double P bass now. Sounds pretty cool.

500th post for me!!! The Euro LX come with an alder/walnut/maple or poplar burl sandwich. Some LEs have solid maple wings (e.g. the Mike Starr Euro 4LX LE) and I think the Ian Hill sig bass has them too. The 1977 and 1979 LEs had solid walnut wings. You also got the the Euro LT with alder/figured maple and Bartolini pickups and Darkglass Tone Capsule preamp and the Euro Classic with weight-relieved maple wings, EMG pickups and EMG BTS preamp.

In which way? Do the knobs go to 11? Is it much, much smaller than a regular bass? Do you get lost with it on the way to the stage? Just curious (big Tap fan)

Maybe it was then @cetera, adding Spector bass nr 30 to the collection? ๐ Custom Forte: Alder Wings, black gloss finish, black hardware, EMG PJx, and Haz 9V. My no-frills NS-2 to complement my no-frills NS-4 (Forte with swamp ash wings, black matte finish, EMG DCx and Haz 18V). I know your feeling. Same here. The last time I collected stuff was back in the mid/late 80s (computer games for the C64 and Amiga home computers) ๐ I only have a few non- Spectors but really want an old school P bass with flats and a 2 EQ Stingray Classic with old rounds or flats for the Bernard Edwards vibes. Then I "should" be ok, well, we'll see ๐
-
Just saw Skyler Acord's signature bass on Spector's FB page. Well, what can I say, it immediately reminded me of someone ๐
-
Well, now it IS gone and it wasn't me. Man, I was really, really considering it. What a lovely piece of art but I have a custom Forte coming soon, so I would not have been able to justify it. I also still want my Motown and tribute to Bernard Edwards (Stingray Classic in natural with maple FB) basses. The former should not be a problem (but I want to see if Fender is going to release a 70th anniversary P bass (for the P bass - 1951-2021) model, so far they have only announced the 75th anniversary P and J models (for the Fender company itself 1946-2021)) but the latter is tricky, no one seems to be selling one ๐ฅ
-
Yeah, I always refer to my 77 as a P bass on steroids!
-
Yes, that's the problem. Some people don't judge (covering the whole spectrum from "not caring too much" to "hate") goods based on their quality but simply on where they come from. Sad but true.
-
I think we had this discussion before ๐ I agree, crazy, crazy price and I doubt EBMM will sell many here and in the other countries where they go for similar money. For example, Thomann is charging ยฃ1,666 for the Special 4 HH in burnt apple (although, I doubt they will ever receive one, it always shows "in stock within X weeks, then, after some weeks, it starts again with .. 6-8 weeks) and for the new 4HH in raspberry burst (which I think is the replacement for the burnt apple), they want ยฃ2,399 (all without VAT, of course). I doubt anyone will pay the ยฃ700 extra. ๐

I guess, to at least some degree, the so-called "country of origin" effect is at play here. Some people think that a product from X must be very good whereas the same product coming from Y must be poor, based on nationality and national stereotypes. This does not make much sense as production techniques (e.g., CNC machines) are nowadays pretty standardised and, more importantly, you can find great craftspeople in every country.
-
I think Paul is outside the UK, so he will be charged VAT in his home country (Hungary, right?) plus handling charges unless BD takes out UK VAT before shipping the bass to the EU. They are doing it for new basses (they list a separate export price) but are they doing it for used basses too? They don't seem to list export prices for used basses on their website as far as I can see.
-
Yes, you are right. Different, not better. I did not realise that one p pickup is reversed and the other isn't. Thought the 79 would be the 77 plus the extra J which clearly isn't the case. Need new glasses ๐
-
Man, this looks killer. Congrats. I especially love the look of the wood grain. I have the 77 and it is an amazing bass with my fav Spector neck and a take-no-prisoners P pickup. I can only imagine that the 79, with the additional J pickup, is even better. Enjoy ๐
-
Oh, yes, this is indeed a big problem, you are right โน๏ธ
-
Still there. It's in the "used & ex demo" section. Go for it, @Paulhauser ๐
-
Yeah, awesome looking bass, super classic looks. Fortunately, it has a string too many. I can hardly cope with four. That's why I like playing AIC songs. For many you only need one or two strings. Played Sea of Sorrow today. E string only. That's more like me ๐ I think I should tell BT to block BD's website for my account. Already bought two basses from them and it is still February. Very, very dangerous and costly website ๐
-
Just saw this on BD's website. NS-2 in red with a killer maple top. Can someone please buy it before I get into trouble with my wife? (my bank gave me a nice banking app that allows me to shift money from the savings to the current account within seconds. Payments only take seconds too and BD's bank details are already stored in the app ;- ) ๐๐ฅฐ๐คฉ

Slightly off topic but in case you want to find more about that, then check out this video (from 27:42). Renzo Rosso, Founder of Diesel, explains the story behind the distressed jeans which he started back in 1978. At first, retailers would return his jeans, thinking they were second hand. The video also shows how they "screw" and "grind" the fabric in a factory in India (from 31:23). Very interesting.

Agree and what a performance considering that Layne was already in poor shape and Jerry was suffering from food poisoning! They also performed in front of the Metallica blokes. Nice message written on Mike's acoustic bass: Friends Don't Let Friends Get Friends Haircuts ๐
-
YES!!! ๐

Cool stuff. Just discovered this thread. Well, for me it can only be this one. Bernard Edwards is really killing it here with his unique chucking technique. Check it out:
