  1. That's confusing. This one is also called Pro Series Spectra Bass SBP (IV instead of V) but looks totally different from the ghoulish green and red ones. How come? Could they not come up with different names? Did not even bother? Oh dear.
  2. I totally dink it. Can you dink it? BTW, Melissa is 6th in SBL's "The 8 Greatest Women of ROCK Bass". So, show some respect 🙂 Check her out from 04:54 onwards.
  3. This is really bad, beyond bad, actually. Spectra? They should have called it Spectre. That's what it reminds me of, a green spectre. It will definitely give me nightmares. Thank you, @AndyTravis
  4. A belated Happy New Year to all Spector fans! Looks like the low end lobster got his claw on the brand new NS Pulse. Judging from his reactions; however, he does not seem to be overly impressed by it (especially when you compare it to his reactions in some other videos, e.g., the one in which he is checking out the EBMM Cutlass).
  5. Good points. As I said, I have no idea what the marketing people had in mind. Maybe they just thought it sounds good or maybe they were Cher or Journey fans 😉
  6. No idea what the NAMM marketing masterminds had in mind. What do you think they mean by it?
  7. I really want this one, preferably as a HH model 😍
  8. As we know, there is no "real" Winter NAMM this year, due to obvious reasons. However, there will be an event called "NAMM - Believe in Music Week" and it'll run from Jan 18-22. It will feature livestreams, entertainment, live music. training and teaching sessions, product presentations, a marketplace and attendee-to-attendee chats. Registration is for free. I have registered and I am looking forward to the event (esp. new product info). Here are some more details: NAMM - Believe in Music Week NAMM - Believe in Music Week Schedule Attendee Calendar - Believe in Music Week | NAMM.org
  9. Interesting documentary about New Model Army that popped up in my YouTube feed. Justin comes across as a cool dude. Worth checking out.
  10. I think you only need to pay VAT (and handling fee) for purchases from Thomann. No import duty.
  11. Ok, here is, in no particular order, my "Top 10", well, kind of 😉 Gigaton - Not the best PJ album but still pretty decent Perdida - Not the best STP album but still pretty decent: Virus - Not the best Haken album but still pretty decent. Cyr - Not the best SP album but still pretty decent. Whoosh! - Not the best Deep Purple album but still pretty decent. Ghosts V and VI - Not the best NIN albums but still pretty decent. Obsidian -Not the best Paradise Lost album but still pretty decent. Omens - Not the best Elder album but still pretty decent. City Burials - Not the best Katatonia album but still pretty decent. Well, you are getting the gist now 😎
  12. Wow. This looks killer. For a bass like this, BC should introduce a "Mega Like" button 😍
  13. I don't need any sympathy. I just wanted to know, in a thread discussing "Thomann prices", how much the custom duty and handling fee would be for a potential purchase. BTW, the bass I am interested is not available anywhere else as it is a discontinued colour.
  14. Yes, a lot of hassle and I also still don't know how much custom duty I will have to pay for a £1700 bass bought from Thomann. Anyone?
  15. WWII? Spitefires? Well, maybe not a good idea to bring that up in a thread discussing the "German" retailer Thomann 😉
  16. Reducing competition - That's correct for our local retailers as they may lose strong competitors from abroad (e.g. Thomann) and could use that for increasing prices. However, I thought that for Thomann to stay competitive and attractive to us here, they would need to lower their prices for UK customers to compensate for the costs (both monetary and non-monetary) we are incurring when ordering from them. That would obviously negatively impact their profits but still be necessary to avoid losing some share of a big market (I obviously don't know how much Thomann is selling to us but I can imagine that it is a lot). However, our retailers probably also sell a lot to the EU (esp. Andertons?) and will face the same issues keeping EU customers happy. Hmm, well, I guess, as always, we probably won't see any price reductions but only increases 😒
  17. To bring it all back to Thomann: Maybe one positive outcome will be that Thomann will have to lower their prices to undercut local competitors (Andertons, PMT, GG, Gear4music etc.). Ordering from the EU is obviously becoming a hassle and only by having much better prices (after adding VAT, customs and handling fee), customers may still decide to order from them. Well, that's my hope at least 😉
  18. No idea, I was only referring to your quote and saying that private sales are not non-commercial transactions as money is involved. Non-commercial transactions between private individuals (as in your quote) are referring to gift-giving.
  19. Private sales are commercial activities (goods and money change hands). Non-commercial transactions do not involve financial transactions (e.g., gifts). So, if you want to give your bass away for free, then please let me know 😉
  20. Sorry if this has already been answered here or somewhere else: I am interested in a bass that Thomann is selling and that is not available here in the UK. I can see that they have reduced their prices (taken out VAT, I guess the German one) as we now have to pay our 20% VAT here. I know that I also have to pay custom duty. How much is that? Is there a table that shows the exact amount? Is the handling fee the same for all couriers? Would be nice to know before I order how much I actually end up paying. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!
  21. I was interested in the black one and did some digging. Most feedback I found is positive. For example: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LSURVEYOR87B--esp-ltd-surveyor-87-black I also found this detailed review on a German website. There are some sound files on the second page (2/3). ESP LTD Surveyor ’87 Test :: Bonedo Main issue that got mentioned: heavy weight. My main issue is the name: "surveyor". I know it is silly but I cannot see myself buying a bass with such a name. Sad but true 😞
  22. Not sure about the name though. Dimension? Really? Sounds rather familiar 😉
  23. Guess they must have just taken it down. I was able to see the new basses just a few min ago. I had already read about them some time ago (they already got featured in the Spector's owner's manual: p. 3: https://www.spectorbass.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Spector-2020-Manual.pdf).
