  1. Agree. A bit expensive. Price is more like for the Ultra. I guess it is the usual strategy: new name, a few minor changes and a price increase 😎 If the new pickup is the USP, then I won't be too tempted as I already have the Fender pure vintage 63 pickup for that project.
  2. Hi there. I am still looking for a Motown bass. I guess a Fender P would fit the bill. Next year is the 70th anniversary of the P bass (and 30 years since Leo Fender passed away), so I thought that would be the right time. I did some digging and found out that there will be a new Fender American Professional II bass coming later this year (probably October). Over at TB, I found the following info about colours: “Precision colors: Miami Blue, Dark Knight, Oly White, Mystic Surf Green, 3 Color Sunburst, Black, Mercury Jazz colors: Dark Knight, Miami Blue, Mercury, Roasted Pine, Mystic Surf Green, 3 Color Sunburst & Oly White” “Dark knight” sounds cool to me. Maybe a stealth version or something that looks like the Duff McKagan bass (without the painted neck)? Some more digging revealed that one UK retailer already has one of the new Ps listed (in the usual black though). Info from the website revealing the new pickup: “The American Professional II Precision Bass® draws from more than sixty years of innovation, inspiration and evolution to meet the demands of today’s working player. The ’63 P Bass profile neck now sports smooth rolled fingerboard edges, a “Super-Natural” satin finish and a newly sculpted neck heel for a supremely comfortable feel and easy access to the upper register. The new V-Mod II Precision Bass split-coil pickup is more articulate than ever while delivering the punch and growl the P Bass is known for. The American Pro II Precision Bass delivers instant familiarity and sonic versatility you’ll feel and hear right away, with broad ranging improvements that add up to nothing less than a new standard for professional instruments.” https://www.musicroom.com/product/fnd0193932706/fender-american-professional-ii-precision-bass-black.aspx Will definitely check it out when it gets released. What do you think?
  3. Anyone already posted the legendary Hoff? A true survivor and living legend 😉
  4. Taking the bus? I don't think so. Every time I visit Yorkshire, I do so with the fabulous Yorkshire Airlines. They offer amazing service and entertainment on board. You should check them out too 😎
  5. Ok, makes sense. The bridge for the Euro is zinc brass alloy; however Spector does offer aluminium for their US basses (Forte and NS) as an option. So, maybe it is not a Euro but a US model bridge. Well, at least the bass is a bit lighter now 😉
  6. Well, I don't know. The 77 chrome bridge is officially a “lightweight zinc brass alloy bridge”. The gold one on a Euro is normally a “zinc brass alloy bridge”. So, if the 77 is officially “lightweight”, what is the gold one then, super-lightweight or feather-lightweight?
  7. C'mon, be honest, it is clearly one of these "Honey, I know I promised to put the bass up for sale. I did but no one bought it. Don't know why" 😉
  8. Wow. Wow. Wow. That is indeed an expensive bass. @Dov65 are you a celebrity bass player in disguise? Does it come with anything extra, such as a nice car? 😎
  9. The aluminium foil worked. Put in two layers and that stopped the humming. Thanks again 👍 As mentioned, the new gold bridge feels so much lighter than the original chrome one. I now weighted them both and look at the the difference. The gold bridge weighs less than half of the chrome one! Can this be true? I mean, is the gold bridge genuine? Does anyone know of fake Spector bridges?
  10. Thanks for the recommendations 👍 I will try the aluminium foil and if that does not work will get some snail repellent tape.
  11. Yes, everything worked perfectly fine before I swapped the bridge.
  12. Update: Ok, I adjusted the saddle height and intonation on the new gold bridge; however, I am now getting a loud humming sound. Very uncool. Looks like a grounding issue as the humming goes away as soon as I touch the bridge. I had already noticed that the new gold bridge is much lighter than the previous chrome one. Maybe that has something to do with it? For humming issues caused by the bridge, someone on TB suggested putting a folded piece of metal foil between the ground wires and the bridge. Do you think that would work? Any specific metal I should get? Cheers.
  13. Yes, it really is stunning looking; however, I already owned a red Euro LT 😎
  14. Just found out on TB that only 20 of the Fishman Euro LTs were actually made (they mentioned 50 at NAMM) and they are not planning to make them again. Cool, glad I got one. I was already thinking of selling it (chunky neck). Definitely keeping it now in my bass vault 😎
  15. I agree. It all depends on how well hardware and wood or finish work together. Red basses also do not seem to be overly popular. Well, red is my fav colour and I was browsing ebay and spotted this great looking Euro. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit on the heavy side 😉 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spector-Euro-4-Lx-Red-Used-18Kg-Interest-Rate-0/363072832115?hash=item5488d3c273:g:8ioAAOSw2sBfITy4
  16. I agree, black would look great too. I know tuners, bridges and strap buttons cost some money, especially for two basses, but it is worth it 🙂
  17. Spector fans, what's happening? I finally got the gold bridge for the 77 (after almost 7 months! I already got the gold tuners). I know from the "what puts you off" thread that several members don't like gold hardware; however, I think it fits this bass perfectly. It really goes very well with the brown of the walnut wings and the beige of the maple neck. Before: After:
  18. Would like to add this one to my previous "What puts you off" list 😎
  19. Cool thread. There are many, many things that put me off. I guess a lot of people will hate me now, but it is what it is. So, in no particular order: - too many pots and switches (G&L L2K, I am looking at you ;- ) - weird looking pickguards (e.g., FGN Mighty Power P bass). Prefer basses without any pickguard. - weird headstocks (e.g., Cort A4 Ultra, looks like a piece has been chopped off) - weird body shapes (Steinberger XP2, Gibson Explorer and EBMM Bongo, I am looking at you ;- ). Only exception: Bootsy’s Space bass. Why? Because it is Bootsy 😍 - racing stripes on basses (e.g., G&L Fallout bass). Really? Do they make me play faster? Let me guess the answer. Just looks ridiculous. Maybe ok for a Ford GT or Mustang Shelby. Happy to have one of those 😎 - basses that look like ticks. Sorry, I don’t like ticks and therefore cannot stand basses like Pedulla’s MVP basses or the Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute DC Bass. - no separate battery compartments or ones with screws. Just look at how Dingwall is dealing with that. Simples. - sparkle finishes. Too much bling. Sorry, not into that. - basses that come with stickers, especially for the wrong football club (yes, you all know which one I am thinking of 😉 -painted and glossy necks. Not a fan of. - removing the neck to adjust the truss rod (e.g., Fender AMVI basses). I know it is about being “vintage correct” but I still think it is a pain in the you know where. I also don’t like truss rod covers that you need to unscrew. I think EBMM have a good solution with the truss rod wheel. - relic basses. I never got the appeal. It just screams “fake” to me. Relic your basses yourself by dropping them, hitting things, playing them forever. Trust me, you can do that even in your own living room. Some of my basses are the living proof for that ;- ) Thinking of it, even back in the 80s, I did not get why people would pay a company (e.g., Diesel) for jeans with holes. I am happy to do that myself. Thank you. Ok, rant over. Now I feel much better 🙂
  20. Great looking bass. According to the serial number, it should be a 2015 model. Love red and black. Looks cool. The Model P is a killer pickup. Have it in my Euro 77. Love it. GLWTS 👍

  22. Yes, the Ian Hill is tempting, very tempting indeed. I have to resist 😎
  23. Yes, the 77 could fit the bill (although, admittedly, it is not a passive bass but that can be changed if necessary). It is such a fantastic bass. One of my few real keeper basses. Powerful sound (I always refer to it as a P bass on steroids), cool late 70s look (when colours such as brown and orange were de rigueur ; -), not too heavy and with an amazing neck (slim but not too narrow, so not like a J or a Tbird). Finally, the curved body makes the 77 super comfy too. Definitely worth a try.
