  1. This is a little patronising, tbh. I reckon that, as a general rule, people with dodgy backs don't aggravate them when lifting heavy weights for this very reason. Certainly in my case it is those silly little movements that you don't prepare for that catch you out, usually involving a slight twisting motion. Of course it isn't the same for everyone as each back injury is different Off the top of my head I have made my back go into spasm and caused myself a lot of pain and immobility by doing the following: cutting my toe nails (I now have a chiropodist!) putting on socks tying shoe laces (now wear mainly slip-on) drying where the sun doesn't shine with a towel extending a tape measure filling a kettle with water mis-judging a dip in the pavement getting up from sitting in a low sofa I'm 62. I've gone to the gym all my life - started lifting weights when I played rugby at school and carried on. Never had a back injury through lifting weights or moving anything heavy up until the 'extending a tape measure' incident 17 years ago which came totally out of the blue. I used to be as strong as an ox but now just look like one I still go to the gym regularly but now it is all about core strength and flexibility.
  2. You wouldn't think fret wire was so heavy, would you.
  3. Damned fine album, or so I thought when I bought it. Haven't listened to the band for prob. 45 years, I wonder if it time travels ok?
  4. I had one for a while, I like the shape, cracking bass. Early MIJ, medium scale, well built, lovely neck, sounded fab.
  5. Surely that's a P in the top right corner, not a J? This is assuming a globe has corners, as in 'all 4 corners of the globe'.
  6. Lucky man.
  7. I'd be jumping all over the HB combo in the classifieds, I think.
  8. I had a BB425 and a BB5000. Stock, both were way too heavy for me. I stuck lightweight tuners on the 5000 but didn't compromise it otherwise - had to move it on. The BB425 as well as lightweight tuners I removed the J pup to lighten it but it was still too heavy! Do you still have the 735a? If so are you able to weigh it, please? I am curious!
  9. That's a shame. I loved the old BBs but they were just too heavy, was kind of hoping the new range might be lighter
  10. How heavy are these new models? Any lighter than the previous series?
  11. I'd say that for this little set up it is extremely important. Not the cheapest option but I have a BF One10 for this very scenario - home practice, small gigs and now have a TE Elf for the amp. I previously used a Tecamp Puma 300 but liked it so much I traded it up for a 500 so I can gig with it on occasion.
  12. I have a black one of these and it looks cool as anything. But, boy, is it heavy! And it needs securing in some fashion otherwise it'll drag any lightweight head off the cab in no time.
  13. More Japanese copies!?
  14. Indeed my Les Paul Jnr DC bass is around 7.5lbs and that is a mahogany slab body, albeit a slim one.
  15. Mine would be: Spend more time on Basschat Buy more basses Practice less That way nobody is disappointed.
  16. I just had a listen! I think this would scare our chosen audience to death 😁 Not quite Cream or Jeff Healey, really.
  17. Sounds fairly harmless.
  18. Noooooooooooooo! Leave it as it is and either grow to love it or sell it to someone who likes it as it is!
  19. Blues rock, largely - trawling the vaults for suitable material for my blues band. Specifically, this last week or so being confined to barracks with shingles, Johnny Winter. I never really listened to much of his output back in the day and am currently enjoying catch-up. This is about to enter our set
  20. Would this not be in breach of your injunction? 😁 Pretty happy with my team at the moment. Maruszczyk Jake covers 5 string Bon Jovi tribute needs, with a modded Sterling 5 as back up. Gibson Les Paul Jnr DC covers my blues band requirements, with Aria Pro II CSB 'Black n Gold' as back up as they sound 'similar'. Then on the bench I have my Squier JV Precision ('cos that ain't going nowhere), a Squier VM Mustang, my Frankenstein Honcore (my go-to for practice at the moment) and a newly acquired Hofner Ignition Club intended for those really bad back days. Stagg EUB and electro-acoustic are semi-retired but on a retainer in case I ever need them.
  21. You can buy larger silica gel packs from Halford or similar that are used to prevent windscreen misting up in old cars. One of those would have a greater effect than the little sachets. I had one in a leaky old Skoda that absolutely did the trick, there was a colour indicator on it so you knew when to dry it out again.
  22. I had one of the G3s for a little while but couldn't get used to the body shape. Very thin but very broad - seemed like I was wrestling with an occasional table. Played beautifully, though.
  23. Me too. I've always been a fat b@stard.
