1. Hi All, Any ideas on alternatives to drums as percussion in a band? I saw this video a while ago which made me think that maybe there are other options. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9xk_TzoQK4&feature=plcp&context=C3d3196dUDOEgsToPDskL41_6oOxcmJ0KEjeGbTAkS Don't get me wrong, I love playing with a drummer on a full kit, its a great sound but recently drummers have seemed hard to find and the hassle of moving and setting up a full kit has made me want to consider other options. Anyone playing with a different percussion set up?
  2. I really like it. Have you got any more recordings?
  3. I'm using Dunlop 3mm Big stubby. Hard attack when I dig in and soft but clear when I don't. Some wear on the tips but I don't think I've ever thrown one away because it was too worn.
@ them that use rigid picks ... any string wear? I'd rather grind the end off the pick than unravel the windings off an expensive set of strings ...

No string wear that I've ever noticed.
None here either.
  4.
Good one! You should put a band together or something
I liked it. A band doing this would easily get gigs and support slots round this way. Edit - I thought the strings were a nice intro.
  5. mm interesting watch. This was always one of my favourite Stones songs. Also, amazing pink boots
thinking of buying a power amp so I can use them all at the same time.
Holy c**p
  7. In one band I used to play for both me and the guitarist regularly had dried blood from cut fingers on our scratchplates at the the end of gigs. He took to not cleaning it off which got nasty pretty quickly.

How does the low B sound?
  9.
There are painfully few home grown domestic talents and those that do have interesting things to show for their talents don't get any breathing space or choose to go underground.
I was just thinking this the other day. Maybe in a few years we'll have a more distinct two tier music system. Mainstream, bankable music making money for the labels and less mainstream, underground music made by people who either don't want to or can't access the marketing budgets.
  10.
I honestly liked Video Games the first time I heard it; still do. but heh, you'd have to pretty naive to believe that the music industry is really about guys in garage bands getting lucky breaks on the back of blood, sweat and tears
I'm with you on these points. I like Video Games too but I'm not so keen on Born to Die. Sad to say that the music industry just doesn't seem to work in that way anymore so we shouldn't expect artists to be able to appear "naturally".
  11. looks great! Edit - I'm a jackass and apparently can't read.

  14.
...and that's a whole other discussion
True! Apologies for the potentially controversial comment
  15.
the issue is they play it different each time you hear it. If that's the case i'll just make up my own version. I think my current issue is i'm trying to play all the songs note perfect and I need to add some soul to my playing
IMO this is what all players should do. Welcome to the forum.
  16.
That line 6 foot switch thing always scared me when it was all our guitarist had. Nothing else, just that and the amp. If it went wrong (and that amp was very finicky) you really were stiffed unless you could borrow an amp.
Yep, I played with a guitarist like that. I could never get my head round him playing without any pedals. As for back up, this guy had to be persuaded to bring a spare guitar let alone consider his amp breaking.
  17. Cajon & Cymbals. Not great sound quality and very full on playing but interesting none the less.
  18. Erm... Think we'll need some more info. What sounds do you like? Examples of players you like the sound of is usually a good place to start. Will you have PA support for these halls? Are you happy to look second hand?
  19.
Done
With room to spare. Well done.
Just spent an hour playing with it and the multiple combinations starting with those in the manual. Huge potential I think and I'm going to have to force myself not to over use it in the band
Please can we have some sound clips?
  21.
I had a bit of a crisis of ethics recently. I can't reconcile my thoughts and opinions with my ignorant actions. I don't want to abandon the lifestyle I love, but I honestly feel like a sh*t person for carrying on regardless.
I'm almost always upset by the ethics of myself and others. I often feel sh*t for maintaining the lifestyle I enjoy
I wouldn't have them. I'm aware that alot of what I do or choose to buy will be unethical without my realising it, but when given the choice I'll try and take the 'nice guy' route.
This is what I try to do but feel that it probably isn't enough and I'm still a horrible person damaging people/environment/animals.
I don't feel guilty about what I don't know because I can't keep tabs on every element of everything I buy/use even if I spent every waking hour trying to do so.
Admirable. I'm going to try to do more of this.

  23. oo. missed out last year. Will have to wait until after payday but fingers crossed there are tickets left in a couple of weeks.
  24. My opinions on this gear is all over BC but I'll say it again. I love my terror bass and SP210. Whenever I gig with PA support use an amp stand (like this http://www.google.co...ved=0CHwQ8gIwAQ) and point the cab cross stage. Without PA support I tend to add another cabinet. Wayne is probably right, the new rig may not be louder. Also it is not designed to go loud and stay clean but I like the way it sounds. Edit - Having said that (volume), I've just remembered playing a gig with both cabinets, having a little time to play around in the venue and unplugging the second cab. Just the SP210 rattled the windows and ceiling panels at around half volume and gain. So depending on the size of your venues and the volume of your band, you might be fine. Welcome to the forum.
