1. Lately had the pleasure of carrying out a re-furb on one of John's EB3s. Pleasure to deal with, very patient on what was quite a long job. He also happens to be a fine exponent of the Andy Fraser style! Cheers John.
2. Oh Steve I'm jealous. I've always wanted to go to see George Hamilton the fourth and start off a chant:- "One George Hamilton the fourth, there's only one George Hamilton the fourth".
3. It's easy, with 3-tone sunburst you get 3 different tones, innit?
4. Posted a few times before - 1963 Precision - goes out to play most weekends. Why leave it home? It's not like it's going to get a slight ding which would affect it's value. I rather like the fact that most 'collector' types lose interest when noticing the extra pickup - It's not for sale anyway.
5. basspartsresource - part no. 005-9134-000.
6. Nice smooth deal with Nick for a lovely pinky-red Jazz body appropriately road-worn and at a very price. Splendid chap.
7. If you were closer (i.e. up the road to Tyneside) I'd only charge a tenner - done while you wait.
8. When the guy ordered this originally he had to pay C.O.D.
9. Greetings Marcus, I have a friend who would like to obtain some body-building steroids which are not quite legal in this country. Something tells me you may be able to help? I'm glad you've clarified that you are not German so I may assume you have a sense of humour:- Once when I was in Dusseldorf I took a clock to a recommended repairman and told him it only ever went 'Tick, tick'. He fixed it by screaming to the clock face 'VE HAF VAYS OF MAKING YOU TOCK'.

So sad. Exchanged many a PM with Si during my time on here. Always thought I'd meet him in the flesh one day. Sincere condolences to his nearest and dearest.
Aw Come on,,,,,,,, surely, someone else on ere is going ?? ,, maybe your too scared to upset Bilbo and admit it eh !!!
But in the 'bad jazz' thread we've seen Bilbo actually playing in a tribute band................. A Les Dawson tribute band.
12. USED to have 3 Ex John Entwhistle basses - 70's Alembic 'point', '66 Slab-bodied Precision and a 1958 Precision. The only one I wish I still had is the Slab.
13. Hi Gramps, I also started in 1963 and am the same age as you. Main difference - I never stopped playing. My former wife (clue there, former) once said I thought more of my Fender than of her. My Churchillian response was that I would think more of a Hondo.....marriage over shortly afterwards. Hope you enjoy your playing as well as the brotherhood here. Your first bass in 1963 was?
14. Just interested to know how it's quoted as a '59 when the Jazz was apparently introduced in 1960? Maybe the next BCer to have a go could whip the neck off and look for a date?
15. De-fretting an inlaid neck may produce potential 'buzz' areas on the lines of the inlays since the inlay material and the fingerboard wood are likely to move at different rates, so I personally wouldn't recommend it. It's possible of course to coat the board to offset this but I reckon you'll get a better result with a plain ebony board.
16. I could let you borrow a fretless but it would be unlined - let me know if that's of interest.
17.
Some P basses have a bit of a reputation for buzzing A-strings, its caused by the shallow angle of the sdtring going over the nut to the tuning peg. When u fit the strings on, u have to make sure the string is wound on in a downwards fashion which helps maximise the string angle over the nut, the extra downforce pressure of the string seated in the nut slot cures the buzzing problem and allows proper transfer of energy to the guitar. 3 or 4 windings, each one going further down towards the face of the headstock should cure the problem.
Agreed with the above until I noticed the string still buzzes when fretted - fretting ahead of the nut usually takes the shallow angle behind the nut 'out of play'. Perhaps a dodgy A string - try replacing it? (and remember the advice of 3 or 4 windings).
18. I like the way the rear control compartment cover blends seamlessly with the main body wood. What a load of bother to go to, to end up with a look that cries out 'home-made' (the amateur's equivalent of 'custom-built').
19.
He's bought a jack though!
This is where he finds out now that the pickup is actually dead. As far as the whole project is concerned, I suggest cremation.
20. I would have expected him to play sole music and really nail it.
21. Well that example certainly isn't. A Rick of that year should have a 'horseshoe' bridge pickup and the knobs would be the same as on a Fender Jazz. Still would be over-priced though. The guy seems quite relaxed about selling it - he's already 'reclined' a few offers.
22. Just completed a nice, smooth deal on a pair of Precision chrome covers + thumb rest I was able to supply - splendid chap.
