  1. I use a 2 x 8 and a 1 x 12, aways have the 1 x 12 on the bottom, don't really know why though
  2. I'm a fan of the Trace Elliot sound but not the weight, so I use a TE head with light weight cabs, agree with everything Discreet says, Trace watts are a lot louder the D class watts and the preshape buttons are seductive when playing on you own but in a band situation a no no, I just cut the 50 and 60Hz sliders (GP12) to get rid of boom, but I do use a bass drive sim which does take out some mid range honk and have the input on full, the red light might flash very occasionally but that's it
  3. apparently not, https://www.recode.net/2017/9/20/16339484/music-streaming-riaa-spotify-apple-music-youtube-2017-revenue-subscription sales but not as we know it
  4. this is what we bought back in 2013 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004L14X7U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 when it arrived it seemed flimsy but it has survived well over 100 gigs, it fits in our mic stand bag along with the banner
  5. just to clarify I've had the amp repaired and it's back to normal
  6. yes my thoughts exactly
  7. there does seem to be one or two on here saying original and Rock shouldn't be used in the same sentence, they do have a point
  8. £70 for parts £65 labour, the amp sounds fine, it did go downhill fast tbh, I switched it on and after a few seconds the power amp section cut out, I messed about with the speaker cables and it started working again but wasn't very powerful, finished the gig on full volume and it was distorting, on reflection I should have gone and got my backup out of the car
  9. Thanks for that, got the amp back with the 4 old mosfets, I've googled them but no luck, on reflection I think it was a fair price
  10. I see record sales enjoyed there biggest growth for 10 years, just goes to show I know bugger all
  11. Essential I'd say along with a bass drum logo, and you need a stand of some sorts, pubs don't like you gaffa taping it to their walls
  12. Music Man Stingray a Zoom B3 (much prefer the Zoom B1on) Trace Elliot combo's (love the heads, I have two, but the combo's are just too heavy and cumbersome, somebody offered me one on free loan at the weekend, I turned him down)
  13. yep, there's a lot of rubbish out there, after a couple of bad gigs most folk give up and stop going, the promoters have to share responsibility for this, they can't be bothered to do their homework and are just interested in how many mates a band can bring in, I've also found that a lot of smallish venues have a bloody awful sound (or soundmen) as well
  14. How much if you don't mind me asking, just paid £70 for 4 mofset transistors
  15. I've pondered this question myself, the main way bands 'made it' in the old days was to get a record deal with all the professional promotion that entailed, there is so little money in record sales these days that record companies are very loathed to sign bands up
  16. maybe the language was a bit harsh, but deep down isn't that why people buy vintage things, to impress other people, it makes them feel good, there again it could be just me that just doesn't get it
  17. they're not, but they're worth more because people will pay more then try and convince themselves it must sound better because of the cost, People like to own rare things, makes them feel superior
  18. never had a good voice, but it still sounds the same which is more than can be said about Macca
  19. can't help you there I'm afraid, mines a passive, maybe someone else will know or email Sandberg
  20. I did it to my Jazz, plenty of info online about it and the push pull volume pots a easy to come by, you'll need a soldering iron though, just google it
  21. all bands that make it need a lot of luck, but to stay there needs talent as well
  22. I just don't get these honours, what's the point? nice for the unknowns (like the little old lady that's done school crossings for 50 years) but the rich and famous, isn't being lucky enough to be rich and famous enough?
  23. A well worn discussion, if you could get a P sound from a Jazz they wouldn't bother making P's but the nearest I've got is to fit a push pull switch to make the pickups in series
  24. I may be off the mark here but if your 300 watt Trace isn't loud enough there's something wrong, I've just having the output transistors replaced in mine after suddenly losing volume, according to the repair guy they do leak with age and are ok on low volumes but lose umph when turned up
  25. limited experience of class D amps, our Yamaha powered mixer is and I had a Fender Rumble 500 V3, both run very cool, indeed, I thought this was one of the advantages of class D's, looks like I was wrong
