  1. won't make me like or dislike their music any more or less, but I do make a point of watching programmes when the likes of Rick Wakeman or (in recent years) Noel Gallagher is in them, a little bit of self depreciation goes a long way imo
  2. but you've got a lot more watts, Mr Popular
  3. never noticed that before, but yeah live vocals, I reckon or bloody good miming which, judging by the way they're 'playing' their instruments wouldn't happen
  4. keeps Dad amused, I've suffered the same fate myself
  5. so if you live in London you can just about get away with it (but you must be severely restricting your options) provided the venue has PA and drum shells but I suspect it's a no no anywhere else, I've had a go at busking a couple of times in Nottingham, caught the bus with my acoustic guitar small Roland amp and mic and stand, not a very pleasant experience tbh (the busking or the bus ride)
  6. this, it's not just your own gear, we split the PA lights etc up between us, we all carry our share, I wouldn't entertain having a band member that hasn't got transport
  7. there's been a thread about this before, I think the consensus was being able to make a living at it, i.e. pack up your day job
  8. the perfect storm, badly behaved band that parents didn't like ( a well worn ploy), a brilliant songwriter, management who knew what they were doing and right place right time, I suspect quiet a few on here were too old to get Oasis, my kids played their records a lot and I got to like them
  9. as he says be under 30, (unless you're seasick steve) be talented, and above all be very very lucky, ( the Oasis doc on iplayer, unless they'd not blagged their way onto a Glasgow gig it might never have happened) how many hundreds of thousands of bands have there been and how many have even got to the stage where they can make a living at it? a very small percentage
  10. unlike most on here I liked Oasis (it's almost unfashionable to say that isn't it?), well the first 2 albums anyway, but I like the Beatles and Glam rock,. I'll have to give this a watch, thanks for the heads up
  11. I did try this but you have to hold down footswitch 1 for a second or 2 to go into this mode, then I had trouble with some of the effects being turned off, with the B1on it's permanently in this mode so much simpler, for what I use it for anyway, I've lent it to a friend at the moment I'll have another play when I get it back, I got it because some said the effects were better than the B1on but I didn't find this, not the ones I use anyway
  12. I've tried a B3 but found it not easy to switch between patches, I couldn't find a way of doing it with a single operation of the footswitch (although there may be a way I've just not found), that and the size meant I went back to the B1on
  13. this looks a decent price considering the cost of new Precisions these days, don't like sunburst myself https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152870120346?ul_noapp=true
  14. tend to get a lot of repeated stuff after a couple of pages on a topic, people can't be bothered to read them all
  15. best bet is get a gig on a multi band bill, (say you've got loads of mates who will come and see you), that way you don't need much gear only need about 8 songs and you'll have a target if it's about 4 months away, that's what we did anyway, that was 12 years and about 400 gigs ago
  16. on one of our own songs I finish it by playing all four strings open, wonder what chord that is? Em11?
  17. sounds like you wished you'd never asked , I know what you mean, millions of people out there have been put off learning an instrument because they've been told they need loads of theory when all they want is to play a tune, I've 'taught' a couple of people to play guitar by tuning it to open E and just barring the top 2 or 3 strings so they could get a tune out it, they both went on to learn 'properly'
  18. TOTP did got through a period when everybody had to play live, I think it was so bad the soon abandoned the idea, shame they never show those performances, the story I heard was the band were required to record the backing track during the day (union rules) so they could mime to it on the show, the Beeb turned a blind eye so management could swap the tapes for the recorded versions afterwards, I think some bands took the fosters because they objected to miming, certainly Jimmy Pursey (Sham 69) insisted on singing live to a backing track, hence the intro "look who's on top of the pops mum"
  19. five pages of pontificating, and you know what? I couldn't give a fcuk how many notes make a chord
  20. I suspect we may talking about different types of muting here, muted all the time or muting to stop strings being played by accident or cut off the note to stop it sustaining too long
  21. I can't ever recall dropping a pick while playing, they've sometimes slipped round, I use Dunlop Nylons 94mm luminous ones they're easier to find in the dark, not very luminous though
  22. I mute mostly with my freting hand, the bottom E ( and A sometimes) by hooking my thumb over the neck or if playing a note on the A string just touch the E string with the freting finger, if playing an open string with the side of my picking hand, hope that makes sense
  23. yes, it's pointless paying out for extra insurance until you've read the small print
  24. most courier insurance excludes musical instruments, I wonder why?
  25. power chords are great, you don't have to bother with all this major minor malarkey, just turn the overdrive up to 11 and thrash away, thirds sound rubbish anyway with distortion
