  1. Nothing organised. Jamie isn't able to organise it as he's moved away. I looked at my church halls, but the parking is awkward. Hopefully we can sort something out.
  2. Go for a colour that Rickenbacker themselves would never do - satin blue would look good.
  3. Very nice indeed. Did you bring that to the Midlands Bass Bash a few years back?
  4. One of those sentences where it's possible to misunderstand almost every word. I take it you're describing the rubber end of a tool for unblocking sinks, attached to the bottom of a network device made from the wood of broad-leaved tropical trees. And the one you have is curried?
  5. 15 hours should do you. Unless you're playing the entire festival.
  6. I hate the term "Tuning machines". I always read it as "Turing machines", which are theoretical machines comprising infinite tape and a read/write head, and capable of solving any computationally solvable problem.
  7. This is going to be a short scale, mulit-scale headless bass. If you're worried about things not lining up, you may want to stop following this thread 😁 Though mitigating against that, if it's anything like @Smanth's midi pedalboard controller build, it will be fab.
  8. Like that a lot! Definitely keep the headstock and sides white. Use chrome hardware if you have it, but if not then whatever you have - the hardware is easier to change later.. It looks like a 50's Cadilac and there's nowt wrong with that. Awesome bass for a party band.
  9. Is that the one that was at the Midlands Bass Bash in October? That was ridiculously small, I couldn't play it, but did sound good in other people's hands. Who brought along the teno uke strung with bass strings? That was lovely to play, much nicer than the titchy U-basses.
  10. I think the answer is pretty obvious in this case - the US uses feet and inches, so 32" is just a round number. My 5 string has 35" scale, because the designer thought it was better than 34", for the low B. There are 5 strings with 34", 32" and so on, and they all work. I wouldn't get hung up on the perfect design, there isn't one. And from everything I have read on this forum, the first bass you make won't be the last, it's the one you learn on. So if 32" feels about right to you, and everyone with experience says Newtone will make strings to sound good, then go with that length, and move on to the next decision. (Disclaimer: my first bass build is postponed until retirement, and also when I feel I can play the damn' thing well enough!)
  11. Welcome aboard! One of my guitarist friends used to say that bass is easy because we only play one note at a time. Then he realised he strums the same chord four times a bar, and we may have played eight different notes, made sure they are musically sensible with the melody and link to the next bar as well. Not better, but as you say - a totally different beast.
  12. Out of curiosity I googled Marilyn Monroe Guitar, and found this: https://max.guitars/en-eu/d-angelico-limited-edition-marilyn-monroe-2-black-art-15577 I can't imagine anyone playing it live, so it must be wall art.
  13. Great looking space, enjoy it! There is a huge amount of advice on studio damping etc on the Sound On Sound website, both the magazine articles and the forums. Well worth reading before you spend money on treatments.
  14. Free to a good home, on the BC recycling page. Leaves plenty in the budget for an iPad and software?
  15. Welcome aboard Somewhere on the repairs and technical thread I read a post saying "if it's made of wood, it can be fixed". So there may be hope for your violin bass.
  16. Welcome aboard! Love the headless. As Brummie I have to ask this - what sound does a Digbeth pre-amp impart? Digbeth is a bit grotty, basically a road in the middle of Birmingham, , and best known for having an utterly terrible coach station (now knocked down and replaced) a temporary flyover that lasted 30 years (knocked down, not replaced), and a plastic statue of King Kong (gone to goodness knows where). With a name like that it can't be a clean amp, does it sound like busses and traffic?
