1. When I bought my current 'go-to' bass, it was by chance because I was looking at something else. But when I saw it, I knew I had to buy it on the spot. I didnt like the colour at the time and it bugged me after I had purchased it. I was happy with everything else just the colour was a bit off putting. Now, 2 years later, its not something that bothers me at all. I am happy with it through and through. My question is: besides the brand, do you consider things like colour when you purchase a bass?
2.
Sold mine, an Aria Pro II SB-R80, in 1987/88, and missed it a lot over the years. Fast forward to the summer of 2008, when thanks to the Swedish bass forum, I got the chance to buy ot back! Here she is:
Thats amazing! My first bass was a Fender Marcus Miller IV and I dont regret selling it.
3.
Jake Newman (jakenewmanbass on here) does Skype-based 121 lessons I believe. I know of one BC member who's had Skype lessons from Jake to great effect. I've had lessons from Jake, he's a truly superb teacher (former Head of Bass at Salford) , and an awe-inspiring player with top flight professional credentials (toured with some of Zappa's band, and many others). He's not expensive either. He's also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Send him a PM mate.
+2
4. Congratulations to Christian McBride and his Big Band for winning the Best Large Jazz Ensemble album for The Good Feeling, and to Stanley Clarke for his work with Chick and Lenny on 500 Miles High (Best Improvised Jazz solo) and Forever (Best Jazz Instrumental Album) Long live Jazz!
5. I concur with bubinga, I couldnt read before had literally no idea on what theory was but after a couple of lessons with Jake, its beginning to come together. As musophilr pointed out, if we was to read everyday for every year, all this would make sense. Its hard but we can get there...
6. Yet another vote for the Bass Gallery. Should be enough there to keep you occupied for quite a bit. Unfortunately I dont do a lot of sight seeing so I cannot recommend any places worth your while. Hope you enjoy.
7. The entire 'Graceland' album by Paul Simon. Get the Live DVD too!
8. I listened to The Roots cover of Prince Lincoln's 'Humanity' and Owen Biddle was using his custom 6, employing the bottom end very beautifully. I hardly play reggae but I think having the added strings does give you depth when you need it.
9.
Actually I think that most musicians, if they have started on a chordal instrument- guitar, piano etc, will have learned a lot of songs from chord charts, but someone starting on bass, with a good ear and no interest in learning any theory could easily not need this information. If you have been doing well for 15 years pal you obviously have a good ear and may not need any other help to learn songs etc. Good on you Pal.
+2
10. Nice touch mate, if I may ask, what is it about graphite that wants you to give it a go? I am a newbie when it comes to graphite, I'd like to know...
11. I have back problems but I wouldnt play my lightest bass (Victor Bailey Acoustic V) in essence I have only had one go-to bass and at this point in time its a Fender American Deluxe V.
12.
What can i say. Fenders were designed in the days when men were MEN! (and easily pleased)
Amen brother!
13.
Biggest plus is the weight - coming from a former Trace Elliot owner.....it was a complete revelation!
+1
14. Hi mate, not sure but you may be able to solicit more replies in the RECORDING section, I think. I could be wrong.

16.
If ive ever had problems with a floppy B string ive used Hex Core strings...DR Low Riders are excellent... i tend to buy just the B string Low Rider, then buy a four string set of similar tonal qualities, that are round core.. Low riders do tend to be very stiff, not something im keen on from E to G... but there killer on a B string DR Low Rider's also have a fantastic tone, lots of definition..
+1
