  1. Add-on to the box is a Bluetooth unit. Page turning of a tablet would be one very useful function.
  2. I thought the same with my MG Quantum 5 SPi. I tried many gauges, but .120 sounded the best ever against all expectations. Maybe the 35" scale and carbon graphite were parts of that equation.
  3. Had a gig in Switzerland few weeks ago. Last time Swissair destroyed my Modulus Graphite HSC. Not the bass, although it was a close shave. This time I decided to keep my bass beside me all the time. I have a bitsa with a J body and a Status MM4 neck. I took the bass apart at home, and put it together after arriving to Zürich. The neck is so stable that there were no issues with it. After the gig I took the bass apart and flew back. The bitsa is now my ultimate travel instrument. (I have screw inserts in the neck.)
  4. You want to try flats, start saving.
  5. They have actually three, if we exclude their multiunits: Thunderstorm (the big, heavy, and cheapo), Vortex (toneprint in bigger or smaller box), and the original SCF (Stereo Chorus/pitch modulator/Flanger).
  6. Who was the first to use the bow? Jerry Auerswald? Roland G-77 synth bass?

  8. I like the ideas behind the instrument, as well as the whole bass itself. Congrats! (By the way: how is a fast neck specified?)

    Amp to flat

Coil-magnet pickup is a band-pass filter: it does not reach very high frequencies, nor it does go to DC in the low end. The response is everything but flat.
  10. If the cab is airtight, that will be functional. If not, the element, and the bass response will suffer.

Flat response and coil-magnet pickup? Contradictionary terms.
  12. Loudness depends on more than one or two parametres. Wattage is pretty poor indicator, although it is one part of the complicated equation. Impedance is misleading, as it is usually marked as one number, while it actually changes quite a lot depending on the frequency. Listen to the sound, and choose the one that you like. If your choice depends on the specifications, do your homework and read the marketing stuff. Many of the meaningful parametres are not published.
  13. GK looks a lot like Gallien-Krueger, although it sounds a bit like Glock-n-Klang.

Schalltechnik i.e. Julian has decided to stop delivering kits after 7 years. He has been supportive, and I wish he would get back to business.
  16. I have mono for one and two basses. I especially like the details, like good pockets, and the velcro that anchors the bass to the case. It has already saved my bass, because I was not so sharp with the zipper.
  17. Stevie Wonder, Motown. 1980's brit pop. Jazz in general. Peter Gabriel's So. I have to say that the line from Everybody wants to rule the world is a lesson for any bassist. Plain simple and functional.
  18. Now quickly to local screw shop to buy one. The tuning machine will eventually break after a short time. Take a look at the open tuners and you may see, that the construction will break without all parts required. Run! or start saving for a new unit. https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-tuning
  19. Blue looks good, Kinder excellent!

    Amp to flat

The fancy "flat" sound works in the shop, but finding your own sound takes some effort and time. Take the pot hats away, tune the sound, and put the hats back adjusted to noon.
  21. @Bill Fitzmaurice, if you read his comment carefully, he's after a cab that consumes all the power. Not after the loudness. I have to say that if there is something where marketing department has succeeded, the "maximum power @ 4 ohms" is one. No one talks about dBs, or sensitivity. Too revealing.

Even hifi amps can have hidden eqs: a flat switch may turn on some extra bass while bypassing treble, bass, loudness etc.
  23. Once I saw a gig where a local band had a stand in from the States: Jimmy Haslip. He played only right notes, nothing extra. Tight, functional notes. After the set the band was applauded back to play an extra. Then the band gave Mr. Haslip a place to solo, and he played a nice one. Once more, he played the right notes throughout the song. Not all notes. Functional, really educating gig for me. Marcus Miller's solo work is not my thing. But I really like his work as a sideman. He plays very tight stuff, all notes serve the songs.
  24. I suppose you have done this the right way: the intonation should be set with new strings only. Dirt and wear affect the intonation.
