  1. A van with a selection of headphones to your door? Phone your phones?
  2. The pot value is irrelevant because it drives the system, and the signals are not going through it. Believe or not, this is something totally different compared to cheapo carbon track pots made by CTS/Bourns/Alpha/whatever. This is true mixer, not blend.
  3. Wasn't he making new pages? I cannot believe he wouldn't be lurking somewhere around there and putting together some amazing stuff. Maybe we need to wait a bit.
  4. This topic again and once more. Should there be a sticky here, maybe? Go to a store that has several models. Use some music you know very well. Take the priciest headphones and start listening. Come down the price level step by step, and the first time you hear a difference (except volume), you need to step back one level upwards. There you are. There you have your headphones. I have a pair of special hifi headphones which response surely is everything but flat. But they are ergonomic, because they fit me, and me only. I would not suggest to buy something that fits me: you need to find the ones you want to wear on a daily basis.
  5. Very kool red back. What's the weight, and string spacing?
  6. I think that the resistor in charge of the LED brightness could have a trimmer after it (in series). Then the current (i.e. the brightness) could be adjusted. Nearly all LEDs I have seen have tried to blind my old eyes. Even much less could be enough on a dark stage.
  7. Soldered. You need to have good eyes and a good iron. But worth the work. Very functional, and this price is next to a steal. I had one in my Modulus Graphite with bartolinis.
  8. The P/P-pot has probably the series resistor limiting current to LEDs. I might try a fresh battery, just in case. Opamps may still be functional while LEDs are not.
  9. External crossover may be pretty cheap. Older ones cost tenners. Even a cab built by Mediocrates can be tamed with a powerful eq (X-over, that is). Probably the end result isn't like Genelec but decent. Any ideas to use a tweeter?
  10. There was a Ken Smith for sale here few days ago. If that isn't a solo machine, nothing is.
  11. This solid thing is hopefully slightly flexible, because when the attachment to the board is not rigid enough, flexing units will try to break each other. There are models where the plugs are not on the straight line. The allow some movement. I still prefer soldering cables to angled plugs.
  12. At the moment I would like to see some comments on bad tuners, as everything seems to be as great as America (for those who didn't get my last words, it really was sarcasm). I had a Peterson Stomp that died. Pedal versions seem to be bulky and the form factor do not support the possibility to carry it to backstage without tearing the pedal board to parts. And a fresh battery should be there, too. My choice was a cheapo Ibanez with tap tempo metronome (actually two for both gig bags). Small and reliable. At home I have a bigger handheld Korg and Peterson. They are powerful, but on the other hand so big that they stay at home.
  13. I bought mine in 1986, and it cost £400. Today price for a 1974 black Ric is probably £2400, and I do not understand why. It's not that good an instrument. Well, if I still had it, the comparison between my Vigiers, Modulus Genesis, and Ibanez Affirma would be unfair. Ric is rock, but that's all folks.
  14. People maybe 40 something, age around the same. They had been having some educational thing the whole day. They really expected something like a slightly advanced trio, and we were 10. We actually played pretty well today and the audience was dancing. A lot. Good vibes from the start.
  15. Android + Pageflip + Mobile Sheets Pro. The price of the MSP is very feasible for its functionality. The basic or the next version of the Pageflip with two switches is enough. Screen size is up to you. Additional app is for scanning of the new paper scores. Importing new ones is then quick and easy. I think I have maybe 2000 - 3000 scores now, no need to carry papers any more.
  16. How many basses you approximately have? That Smith is simply gorgeous.
  17. Maybe people only see the word fretless, not the instrument. This surely is an interesting deal, and fretless - although needs some time - is actually very fun to play. Even very simple lines sound different, and the string choice can change the sound a lot. Try flats, try thin roundwounds, make this black lady sing. Broadneck is also very tempting option.
  18. You say we are bass players, and we are all here? No 9 V batteries were harmed during this writing process.
  19. I think that some good references are needed. @blablas has a collection of basses hanging on the wall, so this should be good enough.
  20. Heard stories, exactly. We would need some real evidence, not some internet rumours. There are lots of shops that show their instrument selection in hangers. Several individuals (like me) have been using the same hangers for ages. Issues? None. Try K&M 16280, which is under £10.
  21. Alembic used NE5534 opamps, and as they are power hungry (lo Z & hi perf, anyone?), they decided to use an XLR5 connector and an external PSU to drive the preamp. Vigier had Nautilus system and an external PSU. EBS' "phantom" power uses stereo plug cable where the ring connector is for 9VDC supply. How about: Guitorgan (1964, with split frets!) Vox V251 Guitar Organ (1966) Ampeg & Hagström Patch 2000 (1976) Probably these had external PSUs, too, I do not surely know. But while there have been trials since 1960's, we continue with 9 V battery powered preamps. Although they are built around less and less power consuming opamps.
  22. Are you cutting the top, and using the wood to cover pickups, then?
  23. An ordinary Corvette with flamed wood? Guy with a five talking over the gal... boring. Few fretboard markers, is that the reason for "special", the headline is about two basses in one video... did I miss something?
  24. Even so that if the sockets are on the side, input is higher and output lower. There would be more space to flat plugs when FX are attached side by side. out-dFXP\dFXP\dFXP-in
