  1. There are still so many older units in use that it is more than common to go to a noisy stage.
  2. Older drivers were not very good. Nowadays most are flickerless (400 Hz dimming is pretty common). They do not pollute surroundings that much anymore, although some chinese brands are not so well performing.
  3. Any school that teaches hand craft skills should be kept alive at any price. A certain school pretty close to me was at the verge, but it managed through hardest times (Covid etc.). After about three years ago a local company was founded, and now the school has trouble to push enough of pupils through the courses that this company needs. Other companies have found these skilled people, too. Keep it up! Don't let far east to be the only source of knowledge and skills.
  4. Take a rest. Repeat ad lib. Come back. We will be here.
  5. Yes, I have, and I'm far from VIP, so...
  6. How low a box could be built? Many units are pretty high, and would be not that easy to assemble under the board... or could the board be the power box as well?
  7. 75 m bolts! That's cool, where did you find them? From a submarine dockyard? The board looks cool, much cooler than with those printed parts.
  8. Mobile Sheets Pro. Works well. Love the setlist archive. A new set is built in a minute from an old one.
  9. Nice bass. Most likely those bartolinis are multicoils. Neck pickup may be a triple coil (dummy coil under the two, can be used with single coil to remove hum).
  10. W ≠ dB Not every rating equals loudness. Frequency response should also be approximately the same. Otherwise comparison is about apples and Samsungs.
  11. Tokai has done a bolt-on copy of the Thumb. The headstock resembles Warwick's design, 26 fret neck etc. WB 680, and 750, just found from 1989 catalogue. https://guitar-catalog.com/guitar-and-amp/tokai/1989-vol15/sp_en_03.html
  12. So very true. If you don't know how the meter works, it is not a tool at all. The same with an RTA.
  13. A straightforward solution: buy a loudness meter. Not so straightforward issues are that the space, and placement of the meter affect levels a lot. Any colourization from the surroundings may give awkward levels. Professionals make the first test with RTA to get rid of the unwanted colouring. Then the level can be easily matched with a relatively simple meter. No need to buy a B&K.
  14. That was tough! 10000 mentally challenged Dionne Peacewick Kenny Logouts Frankie comes from Hollywood
  15. Do manufacturers think that a 4 is 34", and a 5 is 35"?
  16. To consider: - low noise switches? - how many switches you - really - need? - battery saving mode if you forget it ON? Mine is a Pageflip Dragonfly. It has four quiet switches (would work in a studio, or with a symphony band), super long battery lifetime, and extra weight. The unit has lights, too, but the form of the unit is so distinctive you cannot miss. Low noise means no tactile feedback, but I do can see, when the page is turning. Now I would choose the simpler one with two switches only: Butterfly or Firefly. The two extra switches are not needed, but on the way. They are also slimmer units. There was extra metal inside that I removed. The pedal can move on a slippery floor, but because I carry everything in my mono case, lighter, and slimmer is better.
  17. If you want your SSRW strings sound like flats, loan your bass for a couple of weeks to someone else. Do they wash their hands at all?
  18. If (this is a big if) you have the right equipment, you could use RTA to make equalizing of the space every time. When that is fixed, the levels wouldn't be that big an issue to go through pretty quickly. I think low level vs. gig level represent different things.
  19. This is super rare. I might call this 21.5 mm string spacing super wide (a 6 string neck factory modded to a 5). The hollow option is also special. 4 kg has to feel very light.
  20. Barefaced, GR, alusonic... Something like 1x10", 1x12", 2x10", 2x12".
  21. Corrected. No, I love similar projects, too. Something you could put some effort to, is the blending of the pickups. Most straightforward option is to use the Noll Mixpot. With it mixing does not load pickups, and for me the result sounds far better than with any hi-Z blend.
  22. Strings... does the part between finger and bridge rattle, or between finger and nut? Sometimes sympathetic resonance may create funny sounds from the fretboard.
  23. Dear @Danage, Please read and reread this a couple of times. As long as you have a system without active components, @Acebassmusic pretty much described all you will get. I have done these ser/par/single mods since 80's, and my findings could be abriged to this: Ser / single is the most useful because of the change in level and sound.
  24. We are 11. We practise every Thursday. We have been doing gigs since 1988. What does not separate us from the others is that we have had many drummers. Just like in the famous rockumentary Spinal Tap.
