I'm completely skint so need to find some money somewhere so, I'm considering trading this down to something a little cheaper for the time being and buying a black on maple in the future. Here's a picture of the thing: It's a 2004 Standard Precision with the S1 Switch(!) in candy cola with a Maple neck and black scratch plate. It's in excellent condition but has some very minor marks on the rear which I'll photo if there's some serious interest, but they're hard to see unless you're looking for them, no dings at all. The neck and headstock are clean also! Steve Soar of this very forum has seen the bass and seems to like it although he suggests the nut might need replacing depending on the guage of strings you use as the grooves are fairly deep. To me, it plays great, nice low action, and sounds great too. I'm probably just looking for something Black on Maple but I'm happy to look at anything offered. I'll only let this go if I really like what's being offered, otherwise I'll just suffer this month out with no cash! So, what you've got + £200-250 would be the asking price. Cheers, Ben.
Steve Soar of this parish, really likes this bass, it's a good weight, has tons of bottom end, a great neck and it is in great nick. It also has a set of DR Hi Beams on it that are only a few hours old and with a new nut, or just shimming the old one and re-cutting it would be a brilliant Precision. I was totally jealous when I saw it but I didn't tell him.
3. For a custom, I'd go with Alan again, without hesitation. The quality of materials, the construction, the playability, the shape, the feel, the sounds, that preamp and value for money, I don't think can be bettered. I am slightly biased though. I would like a Status but they are different beasts. I've heared horror stories of the plebs who work in these distribution hubs playing football with and chucking parcels around, don't these places have cctv and supervisors? It sounds like a fork-lift truck may have been involoved with your bass. As for other custom builders, the U.K. is going to be your best bet, after you have paid import duty, postage etc and a dollar which is getting stronger, you could pay a small fortune. And if anything similar happens to that instrument, you may not be as lucky in getting the level of aftercare that ACG provided for you.
4. God, that is so nice, if I had the sponds, I'd have this and Bassjams SVT II in the cellar, with 2 x 8 x 10"s (does quick calculation) £2500, if the cabs were a bit tatty. There you go, fantasy out in the open. And........relax. What an amp.
5. Solid Flame Maple and a beautiful wenge neck, the wood alone would cost close to the asking price. I can just imagine how great and growly this sounds as the neck on my AGC is wenge bubinga, with a wenge fingerboard. I bet it has a beautiful mid honk that cuts through any band situation. I hadn't looked at this thread before, 'cause it's a righty but for £380 and if it were left handed, i'd be sending you the money a.s.a.p. for one of the bargains of the Summer. Somebody buy this bass.
6. Ehh? When did this happen? Was it in a Hiscox case when it was sent, who did the damage and what do you mean by a cloudy finish? I watched it being built and was really looking forward to seeing it, then for some reason, probably because of the trouble and you not posting it on here, I forgot about it. That is so sad, can't it be righted?
7. ...you heathen you! Prepare to be severely punished! Bring forth the `Early Tapes' No Doc, no, anything but the "Early Tapes". How about "I can't walk you home"...........pulling strings and pony-tails....
8. The Stealth-Empathy is a true beauty and the 2000 fiver is a cracker too. I can't imagine playing with 15mm spacing though.
9. It's edstrakers, just a couple below this post.
10. That's the nicest top of any ACG I've seen yet, except mine.
11.
I'm another who read about this in Bass Player (grab a subscription it works out a lot cheaper than WH Smith!!). I can see what their going for, but I can't see who would buy one. The price puts it against some really tough competition.
It sounded unremarkable and the finish, for £3500 is an insult. Sperzals on a bass, total waste of time, EMG HZ's, good pups but no eq, box section in the neck, could be a great idea. I bet it plays nice!
12. Is it real?
13. That's golden.
14.
heres a taster of my stingray/status superbass full on porn pending sunlight and better camera...
Very nice Kev.
15. Take the plugs off, then ditch the cable. Solder the plugs onto a length of new cable and try not to run over it with the castors on your cab, like this numpty did. Don't twist your cables, when you need to coil them and don't stretch them. I spent yesterday afternoon making new leads with old plugs, after picking up Russian radio stations the other night.
16. I had exactly the same problem. In April I formed a band with a couple of friends, with the view to gig original material. The guitarist, who had a massive lack of confidence, due mainly to the fact that he had never gigged, said that he wasn't comfortable with us and would like to stay as a hobby player. I tried for weeks to reassure him that he was easily good enough to gig and if he made any mistakes while playing, then so what? we're only human and next gig will be better but he quit. Then the drummer found a guy who was great, brilliant tone and feel, just what the music needed. His ideas were great and together the songs took an even better turn. We rehearsed for a couple of months and were offered a gig at a local band night but he was travelling up and down the country with his job and moving house and then he ignored any attempts we made at getting in touch, so, disheartened, the drummer has put it on the back burner until I find a guitarist. Then we need to find a singer. You need to find out what the others aims are and most importantly, you all need to be honest and respectful with each other. This can be achieved through the medium of a couple of beers. Good luck.
17. If you replace the neck, you may loose the vibe that the bass has, as for changing the logo, that is your call but personally, I'd leave it how it is. There is something so cool about a "cheap bass" being able to blow expensive ones away. I have a 1995 Squier Precision, I fitted a bone nut, dressed the frets and put some EMG's in it with a Jazz in the rear, it is now a killer bass. You could put a Gotoh 201 bridge on it, just like the Sadowskys, that way, you could put the cover on. Tort plate, yes.
18.
Hi Chaps, I thinking of selling my Ashdown rig with the option of getting something a little smaller/portable, as i more often than not go through our pa. Just wanted to know what your thoughts were on how much I can expect to get for an ABM C115-300 EVO II Combo and an ABM MINI 48 Cabinet. Both are U.K made and the rig has been used frequently, but its in fairly good nic. Cheers Keith
Hi Keith I use to own an ABM EVO C115 500, I sold that for £325 and the ABM MINI 48, I sold for £175. The combo was a 1999 model and the cab was 2002, they were in good condition, with only a couple of nicks on the combo and a big scuff on the cab. Ashdown prices seem to be slightly on the up as opinions change about them all the time. That is a great rig you have there but if you get, say, £550 for it, you would be hard pressed to find anything as good for that kind of money.
19.
I can help you justify this.... on the basis that they are fanbloodytastic amps that do everything from fatbottomed lush tone through to full tear-the-audience's face off. They really are superb. Do it!
He speaketh the truth. I had one and let it go but now I have the SVT IIP, which for me is a better suited pre.
20. So, he has sold similar ones in the past?
21. Wow, that's gorgeous. Nice colour too.
22. I totally agree and have you read why his feedback isn't 100%. The biggest giveaway is the finish, the way the black covers all the contours on the front and back, all the areas that would show the laminations of the plywood. I use to own a Blazer bass back in the 80's and it was built like a tank and since then I have never seen an Ibanez bass that looks anything like this thing he is trying to palm off. Can any Ibanez experts chime in?
23. Did you notice that it has a Fender USA neck plate but what looks like the remains of a Jap serial number on the heel. Any ideas?
24. Could I put it to the members of the jury, that this bass guitar is nothing but an imposter and its owner nothing more than a scoundrel. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBANEZ-PRECISION-BAS...86.c0.m14.l1318 The logo, the black of the sunburst on the forearm chamfer covering the laminations of the ply, the cheap tuners, the pressed bridge, the serial number (12345) forfuxsake, the shape of the heel, the grain-less body wood....... it is so not an Ibanez. The worst bit is, he actually compares it to a USA Fender that he alegedly owns and says that it is just as good. He should be reported, it really grinds my gears when fakes are sold on Ebay.
25.
No offence intended to all honest, clean-living, non-bubble-perm Scousers. And I never even mentioned hub-caps.
Side-splitting, oh, oh, just a minute, let me get my breath.
