nordstrand nj 4 will they work with 25k pots
steve-soar replied to lee650's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi Lee I've got the ordinary EMG Jazz pups in my Jap Jazz, with a J Retro. I love the sound of EMG's, as I think they give a good representation of the bass sound acoustically. I was a bit unsure about the J Retro with the EMG's, thinking it would be too much, I needn't have worried because they work great together. I use hardly any bass, a bit of low mid and a lot of treble cut with the J Retro, if I boost the bass or mid any more it gives a beautiful barking sound that I like. I prefer the EMG J's because they have a curved magnet in them which follows the radius of the 62 profile of my neck. I found that the A and D strings gave less volume when I used the JV's because of the flat pickup/radiused board but I love the sound of them because of the deep low end and they sound great without any EQ. -
A bad producer will make a band sound like its record company wants them to sound. I also think of all that bad hair rock from the 80's, with enormous snares and reverb and gates everywhere. I think Ed Stasium got it right with Living Colours first album, for that big, in your face rock sound but Heart and Starships 80's output was, it was a time when hair had more lacquer than a Jaydee Series 1 and mullets roamed the streets, T'pau were famous and bigger was better. I have a feeling that we may revisit these ways in the future.
Well I have an update on the cabinet situation, and I've included some pics. Bear in mind also this damage was caused through the cardboard packing box and the two inches of blown polystyrene insulation around each corner inside the box. OK firstly, they didn't reply to my e-mail, so I telephoned them. I was told they're OK with everything and they're going to e-mail me something to assist UPS in collecting the cabinet and, once they've got it back, they'll issue a new one. Small woohoo. The girl I spoke to said they wouldn't issue a replacement until the first cabinet came back to them, so I'd be looking at a two week wait. Like it says in the title, damn. Then last night I get an e-mail from Thomann, who say they are reluctant to take the cabinet back as it's too big. They've also said that they can just send me the defect part (they're alluding to just the corner protector, not the cabinet as a whole here) - clearly they seem to think I can screw a corner-protector into something that's mis-shapen like a satsuma. One final thing, I've offered the cabinet up onto my MAG 1x15 and it's not square to it...looking down from the top the cabinet seems a little offsquare...not much, maybe a centimetre. To me this says it's either 1) not built properly, or 2) gone out of shape following the transit impact. I've been running similar MAG stuff for five/six years and aside from scuffs and scratches from hundreds of loads, the cabinets have held up extremely well. I have a feeling this will run and run. All for a saving of £50.00. <sigh> P
A £50 saving for something that fell off the back of a lorry, that has had a big old drop. You make sure you get total satisfaction from them, they are insured for this kind of incident. I am always amazed at the total lack of respect that some people in the courier industry have for other peoples property, I understand that they are always battling against time and cost but a bit of training for their colleagues in the art of handling parcels wouldn't go a miss. Good luck.

That's excellent.

If this was a little nearer to home, I'd love to bring my Berg IP310 and Avalon/Ampeg pres. As for the others mentioned, I'd love to hear all of them!

Tony Visconti, George Martin, Phil Spector, Brian Eno, Rick Rubin, Holland Dozier and Holland, Quincey Jones...... These people are the dream makers, the sound sculptors, what do you think? I love production nearly as much as bass playing, are there any other producers that are bassists?

Just been listening to Bowies "Singles" album, absolutely mesmerising bass lines, Ashes to Ashes, Fashion, Boys, China Girl..... WOW. Production, amazing. This may lead on to a great producers thread. So here goes....

Hi Lee the BT controls won't work with the Nordstrands. I use the BT system with EMG P bass and J bass pups and this has plenty of bite but the JV's are voiced differently. Why not sell the EMG stuff and get an ACG 02 to go with the Nordys, this will give you more bite than you could ever need. Sorry Lee, I've just seen that money is tight, so the ACG may be a no no. Why are you going for the Nordys? -
why do you need that many? they are nice, but i get less excited about them when there are so many
You see, it's like this Kev, Mr Moo loves these basses and can afford to collect them, he has worked very hard all of his life and is enjoying the benefits. He has collected many more Statii and has honed them down to these eight and they are very beautiful. I think Mr Moo likes motorbikes too, Italian ones, I think.
Lakland are top notch. I got my last egg poacher from there and a device that cuts an apple into bits and isolates that unwanted core. I also purchased a bespoke piece of tuppaware that successfully encapsulates half a Spanish onion and allows you to store it with other fruit and veg without any fear of cross contamination. Also I saw a blue one in Reverb in Brum for £800. I gave it a quick once over and it seemed excellent. I quickly put it back.
I agree, we bought some bags from them that somehow manage to keep things fresh forever. Very innovative with their forward thinking kitchenalia.

That's just crazy, crazy I tell you.

I hate to see this kind of post, where the seller needs to shift their gear because times are hard. I had to sell my Jaydee back in 1995 simply because I couldn't afford to eat or pay the bills, I had a big council tax bill and was facing court. I sold it for peanuts and as soon as the guy left mine, carrying my bass, my insides started to churn. This is a beautiful bass for a silly price, someone is going to get a lot of bass for a little money. Have a "cool as Ed Bishop" type bump. P.S. Ed, what was your favourite S.H.A.D.O. fighting machine? Mine was the tank with the missle on the top. I liked the Interceptor as well.

I love it. Mines similar except for the cool tosh lap top-(mines a 4 year old Packard Bell PC with upgraded RAM) and the cool pedals-(mine is a GT6B and various plug-ins, such as Glade "Touch&Fresh" and "Meadow Moments" fom S.C. Johnson, a family company.
