1. Hi Folks, Reduced price hoping to tempt your interest and allow me to to avoid having to use Ebay!! Looking for £40 o.n.o. or trade for something interesting/useful such as a 3U or 4U rack case... Thanks Nik
 2.
and here's a pic to prove it.
Looks a bit Starship Enterprise to me!! Impressive....
 3.
Absolutely, it's a case of building a nice selection of effects in the customisable bank and then remembering which number is which in a gig!
That's far too difficult for mere bass players to do, especially at my age!!
 4.
I hear that! The zoom unit is great with headphones... I used it quite a bit but I never learned to use it properly so I ended up selling it a little later on.
Now I've sussed it out a bit, it's great fun!. Before that, it was very useful for gigs but I wasn't using it anywhere near it's true potential. Even now, I'm probably scraping the surface of what it can do, but it's getting better the more I use it..
 5.
1. Silverfoxnik 2. Walman 3. Merton 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Sorry guys, got to take my name off. My brother plays sax for the 80s sca legends the bEAT - they're playing in Brighton the night before the road trip and he's going to be staying at mine. Next time eh?
No problem Isaac - next time it'll be!
 6.
Cheers guys- I'll take a look at those properly tonight Hi Nik, I don't deal with Bernie any more - might take it to Graham Wheeler though ;D Not sure about the bash just yet- trying to save as much money as poss for a Markbass 151HR- whoop! r
Hi Russ, Unfortunately, good a luthier as he is, Graham just 'doesn't do' electronics at all as he'd be the first to tell you. He did some work recently on one of Tony's Valley Arts guitars and was calling Tony to ask about wiring issues! So, maybe talking to some of the Basschat resident experts, or to find someone else locally might be the best way to go? Or try someone like Paul Herman at Chandlers Guitar Experience in Kingston or Martin Petersen and Co at The Gallery, though I'm sure someone on the forum will know someone for you that is more local to you? Nik
 7.
Nice rig. Sweet Warwick there as well.
+1 It all looks great; bet it sounds great as well! Congratulations, it must have been a lot of hard work to get that together..
 8. Hi Andy It's working fine for me today, so maybe it's an Internet Explorer problem or something else causing that error message on your PC. My usual response to those messages is to panic, so I'm afraid i can't offer you any useful words of advice... Nik
 9.
Hi- I love my SR5 HH but would really like to get some of the other possible pickup permutations out of it - I'd like to install switching like that on a roscoe beck 5 - 3 position switch to select pickups and 2x mini toggle (series, parallel, single coil) for each pu. It' be great to be able to get; bridge humbucker with 1 neck single coil bridge humbucker in parallel (SR5 HH bridge pickup is series by default, odd I know) single coil neck or bridge solo Has anyone else done something like this? I expect there to be some volume issues between settings but I can live with that- I won't be fiddling with settings all that much when gigging but it'd be nice to squeeze out some extra options for the price of a few switches and some wire
Hi Russ, Great idea... if you get this mod installed, it'll make your bass so versatile it'll be unbelievable! Have you thought about taking it into Bernie and asking him? By the way, are you thinking of going to the Bash next month... Nik
 10.
Kept you loud surely?
Unfortunately not - I was using headphones! Just waiting now for a convenient time when everyone's out and it's not too late...
 11. BUMP! 4 down (with the groove...), 6 to go
 12. Good luck! Enjoy it, smile and do your best - you can't give any more than that!
 13.
1. Silverfoxnik 2. Walman 3. Merton 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Ta!
Cheers Mert! At the moment, there's two other probables, so we have maybe 5 at the moment.. I've got the minibus booked 'on hold' at the moment, and I have until 72 hours beforehand to cancel, so plenty of time still for people to confirm if they want to come along.
 14.
I'm trying to decide between getting a rackbag, or getting a hard case. I don't gig (yet...) so will just be for rehearsal. Obviously the hard case will look after the equipment a bit better - but its not like it will be thrown in the back of a van, so does it matter? FWIW I'm looking at an LD Systems bag or a Gator shallow case both in a 6u size.
Good question! I used to have a hard case for my Hartke HA3500 and it looked after it really well, but it became a bit of a pain to lug around to be honest.. So, I sold the hardcase on and I now have a rackbag for my GK 700RB and I'm pretty happy with it.. I do a lot of gigs but carry my own gear around, so I make sure it doesn't get thrown around. A 6U hard case full of gear will get very heavy, but if you're touring, then it'd be worth it. Otherwise, you'll probably be fine with the rackbag..
 15.
I just explained in other thread but I'll make it known here too. I can't commit to wether I can go yet due to my wedding being only 3 weekends after. So it's probably best to not rely on me. If things are on target enough for me to be able to kill a day at bassists heaven then I'll be there Will be able to take my new baby too if I make it woooooohoooooooo !!
Hi Nick, Obviously, it's a shame to let things like births, weddings and funerals etc, get in the way of the much more important things in life such as basses, bass rigs, basschat and bass bashes, but in this case, we can make an exception!! Seriously, it'd be great to see you if you can but there'll always be another Bass Bash in September or next spring..However, you only have one wedding day (unless you're related to the Liz Taylor, Liza Minelli side of the species) , so you've got to make it the best it can be.. Hope it goes really well for you and your intended and maybe, we'll see you at the Bash! Nik P.S. Al - see you Thursday for that pint
 16. Hi Folks, As it's only a month away, I think it's probably time to think ahead and book a minibus for next month's bash.. That's if there's enough interest from fellow Basschat members down here on the south coast, of course???? As I said before, through some work colleagues, I can hire a bus here in Littlehampton that will seat up to 10 people and have room for a whole load of gear as well! Cost is either £55 per day plus fuel or, it's £0.80 per mile all in.. As it's approx 130 miles from the south coast to Northampton, I figure with detours to pick up and drop people off, maybe the total mileage would be around 300 miles for the whole day.. By that reckoning, it'd be best to pay £55 bus hire and put the petrol in ourselves?? There's no deposit to pay and I'm happy to do all the driving if necessary..though that can be shared too. If there's not enough interest, then no problem, I'll take the car and my carbon footprint be dammed etc, etc!! But thinking practically I would have thought this idea makes much more sense and offers all sorts of opportunities for a thoroughly childish and silly 'Bad News Tour' style adventure! So, if you're interested, please add your name here.. I'll start it off: 1. Silverfoxnik 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Cheers Nik
 17.
a fascinating thing cheers
+1 Captain!
 18.
I actually really like the Hondo the most? Is that odd?
Not odd, just uniquely discerning I would say.. Thanks anyway; my mum would be pleased as she bought it for me when I was knee high to an Ampeg 8x10! P.S. will post some pics of the Fender Jazz later....
 19.
Nice collection Nik .... I was after a RBV a few years ago and couldn't find one anywhere. Awesome looking bass ... what bridge is it wearing? edit: and don't you have any additions to this thread yet? lol
Thanks Nick, though as you rightly say, there has been a change or two since the original post! You obviously don't miss a trick, sir! Well, the DJ5 is now the proud possession of Basschat's WishICouldWalk and in return, I have his USA Fender Jazz v Deluxe, with EBS pre-amp. Must admit, I'm more than happy with the Jazz 5, especially since Bernie Goodfellow put the original pick ups back in it for me! It also came with a spare neck which I'm going to defret so I can indulge my fretless fantasy one day As for the RBV, that bass feels like I've had it for years it's so comfortable to play and I just love the sound of it and the tonal variations you can get with the coil taps; quite similar to your G&L in fact.. It's wearing a Gotoh bridge that has a Fender 'badge' on it, done especially for the RBV range apparently, and it's a really chunky piece of kit.. When I got the bass, the saddle for the B string wasn't working and needed replacing..Amazingly, owen (who is a true gent) sent me a replacement so it's good as new now! BTW, are you going to the Bass Bash next month Nick? Nik
 20.
I feel I have to register a complaint to the fine ladies and gentleman of this website forum. Until I recently joined I was more than happy with my Yamaha TRB that had been my main bass ( just have a cheap 5 string spare for gigs ) for over 6 years. I also have a Fender USA Strat that has sat happily virtually unused in my wardrobe for the last twelve years and as a little family we were happy. UNTIL NOW !!! I now spend half my life on this forum and the other on Ebay looking for bargain Precision's, Jazz's, Geddy Lee's, uprated pickup's, SX's ( never even heard of them three months ago ) The Strat ends tonight on Ebay ( currently £331 but more would good ) to try to feed this GAS frenzy Where will it all end ?? Not sure but one thing it has done has rejuvenated my playing and enthusiasm for improving as a player. Keep up the good work Regards Tony
Welcome to the collective Tony - you have been assimilated! Good luck with the Ebay auction....
 21. Great job.. looks very 70's to me for some reason.. They're really good sounding basses IIRC...
 22.
Considering the quality of your basses I'll take that as a hoooge compliment. Apart from Birdy's Jazz (and IMO you cannot have an opinion on vintage instruments until you have played a few) that is fabulous, its a +1 for OBBM's Duck Dunn Darkstar
+2 on OBBM's Duck Dunn Darkstar - it looks amazing! Mert - am really looking forward to seeing your Groove 5 at the Bash, which I am 100% convinced I'm going to love
 23.
Mmmmm.... me want that Jazz. Lovely basses both of them. Well out of my price range though....
+1 That Jazz is absolutely stunning! Having had a 75 Jazz and a 78 MM in a previous life when I had more money and prices were that much cheaper, I can say whoever buys these will not be disappointed at all! Good luck with the sale..
 24.
I could'nt agree with this more. The two are like chalk and cheese. That's why I did my bass course first then 2 years later did my PGCE. I have been taught by some amazing players who can't teach for toffee. Who wants to go to a tutor who just blazes through some incredible bass licks on their bass and makes you feel de-motivated afterwards because you feel leaving humble. Beedster is so right. Teaching is the complete opposite where the tutor should bring out the best in students. I am a firm believer in active learning (or 'Experiential Learning') where students go through self discovery guided by the tutor rather than being 'fed' information in a one way process like sitting in a lecture. Nick
I couldn't agree more with your posts Nick - thanks for setting it out so well! In the job I work in we teach young kids about disability and we do that through 'active learning' and the results are amazing! Same too re: Jake's comments; again really well put.. In terms of my original post, it's given me a much more rounded view of the subject now... Nik
