1.
I just explained in other thread but I'll make it known here too. I can't commit to wether I can go yet due to my wedding being only 3 weekends after. So it's probably best to not rely on me. If things are on target enough for me to be able to kill a day at bassists heaven then I'll be there Will be able to take my new baby too if I make it woooooohoooooooo !!
Hi Nick, Obviously, it's a shame to let things like births, weddings and funerals etc, get in the way of the much more important things in life such as basses, bass rigs, basschat and bass bashes, but in this case, we can make an exception!! Seriously, it'd be great to see you if you can but there'll always be another Bass Bash in September or next spring..However, you only have one wedding day (unless you're related to the Liz Taylor, Liza Minelli side of the species) , so you've got to make it the best it can be.. Hope it goes really well for you and your intended and maybe, we'll see you at the Bash! Nik P.S. Al - see you Thursday for that pint
 2. Hi Folks, As it's only a month away, I think it's probably time to think ahead and book a minibus for next month's bash.. That's if there's enough interest from fellow Basschat members down here on the south coast, of course???? As I said before, through some work colleagues, I can hire a bus here in Littlehampton that will seat up to 10 people and have room for a whole load of gear as well! Cost is either £55 per day plus fuel or, it's £0.80 per mile all in.. As it's approx 130 miles from the south coast to Northampton, I figure with detours to pick up and drop people off, maybe the total mileage would be around 300 miles for the whole day.. By that reckoning, it'd be best to pay £55 bus hire and put the petrol in ourselves?? There's no deposit to pay and I'm happy to do all the driving if necessary..though that can be shared too. If there's not enough interest, then no problem, I'll take the car and my carbon footprint be dammed etc, etc!! But thinking practically I would have thought this idea makes much more sense and offers all sorts of opportunities for a thoroughly childish and silly 'Bad News Tour' style adventure! So, if you're interested, please add your name here.. I'll start it off: 1. Silverfoxnik 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Cheers Nik
 3.
a fascinating thing cheers
+1 Captain!
 4.
I actually really like the Hondo the most? Is that odd?
Not odd, just uniquely discerning I would say.. Thanks anyway; my mum would be pleased as she bought it for me when I was knee high to an Ampeg 8x10! P.S. will post some pics of the Fender Jazz later....
 5.
Nice collection Nik .... I was after a RBV a few years ago and couldn't find one anywhere. Awesome looking bass ... what bridge is it wearing? edit: and don't you have any additions to this thread yet? lol
Thanks Nick, though as you rightly say, there has been a change or two since the original post! You obviously don't miss a trick, sir! Well, the DJ5 is now the proud possession of Basschat's WishICouldWalk and in return, I have his USA Fender Jazz v Deluxe, with EBS pre-amp. Must admit, I'm more than happy with the Jazz 5, especially since Bernie Goodfellow put the original pick ups back in it for me! It also came with a spare neck which I'm going to defret so I can indulge my fretless fantasy one day As for the RBV, that bass feels like I've had it for years it's so comfortable to play and I just love the sound of it and the tonal variations you can get with the coil taps; quite similar to your G&L in fact.. It's wearing a Gotoh bridge that has a Fender 'badge' on it, done especially for the RBV range apparently, and it's a really chunky piece of kit.. When I got the bass, the saddle for the B string wasn't working and needed replacing..Amazingly, owen (who is a true gent) sent me a replacement so it's good as new now! BTW, are you going to the Bass Bash next month Nick? Nik
 6.
I feel I have to register a complaint to the fine ladies and gentleman of this website forum. Until I recently joined I was more than happy with my Yamaha TRB that had been my main bass ( just have a cheap 5 string spare for gigs ) for over 6 years. I also have a Fender USA Strat that has sat happily virtually unused in my wardrobe for the last twelve years and as a little family we were happy. UNTIL NOW !!! I now spend half my life on this forum and the other on Ebay looking for bargain Precision's, Jazz's, Geddy Lee's, uprated pickup's, SX's ( never even heard of them three months ago ) The Strat ends tonight on Ebay ( currently £331 but more would good ) to try to feed this GAS frenzy Where will it all end ?? Not sure but one thing it has done has rejuvenated my playing and enthusiasm for improving as a player. Keep up the good work Regards Tony
Welcome to the collective Tony - you have been assimilated! Good luck with the Ebay auction....
 7. Great job.. looks very 70's to me for some reason.. They're really good sounding basses IIRC...
 8.
Considering the quality of your basses I'll take that as a hoooge compliment. Apart from Birdy's Jazz (and IMO you cannot have an opinion on vintage instruments until you have played a few) that is fabulous, its a +1 for OBBM's Duck Dunn Darkstar
+2 on OBBM's Duck Dunn Darkstar - it looks amazing! Mert - am really looking forward to seeing your Groove 5 at the Bash, which I am 100% convinced I'm going to love
 9.
Mmmmm.... me want that Jazz. Lovely basses both of them. Well out of my price range though....
+1 That Jazz is absolutely stunning! Having had a 75 Jazz and a 78 MM in a previous life when I had more money and prices were that much cheaper, I can say whoever buys these will not be disappointed at all! Good luck with the sale..
 10.
I could'nt agree with this more. The two are like chalk and cheese. That's why I did my bass course first then 2 years later did my PGCE. I have been taught by some amazing players who can't teach for toffee. Who wants to go to a tutor who just blazes through some incredible bass licks on their bass and makes you feel de-motivated afterwards because you feel leaving humble. Beedster is so right. Teaching is the complete opposite where the tutor should bring out the best in students. I am a firm believer in active learning (or 'Experiential Learning') where students go through self discovery guided by the tutor rather than being 'fed' information in a one way process like sitting in a lecture. Nick
I couldn't agree more with your posts Nick - thanks for setting it out so well! In the job I work in we teach young kids about disability and we do that through 'active learning' and the results are amazing! Same too re: Jake's comments; again really well put.. In terms of my original post, it's given me a much more rounded view of the subject now... Nik
 11.
+1!!!! I wish I still had time to mess around with mine
I know what you mean.. My little session was at 2am in the morning because that's the only time I could find!
 12. Hi dmz You have some lovely and quite distinct basses! Each one that has been posted has something a little different about it, which is really cool and sets it apart.. I presume it's taken quite a bit of imagination and hard work on your part to achieve that? Nik
 13.
That's a lovely looking jazz!!
+1 What do they cost new?
 14. Hi Folks, After about a year of owning a Zoom B2 and a B2 1.u, I finally managed/bothered to work out how to use the drum machine in it.. So after playing around with the drums for a while, then finding a really cool tube pre-amp tone, a bit of auto-wah and some ping-pong delay, I had a brilliant time jamming and practicing!! Kept me quiet for hours, it did.. It really does amaze me just how good these B2 fx units are for the money! Nik
 15.
PED suggested we should have this thread in the other "whose bass would you want" thread. So I'll start the ball rolling. As I said in the other oddly enough.......psychandy's GB Spitfire. I bought my new EBS rig from Bernie Goodfellow the day before psychoandy collected that bass from him. So Bernie played it through my rig, and it sounds absolutely amazing.....as good as it looks (and boy is it beautiful).
There's too many to mention really! But Merton's Status Groove 5, Nig's G&L L2500, WalMan's Wal Custom, Luke's Ibanez Fretless and one of Water of Tyne's vintage Fenders quickly spring to mind We can but dream, I suppose.....
 16.
Not my gear in the pics. My current rigs are: Aguilar DB680 Aguilar DB728 Aguilar AG500 2x Aguilar GS410 Soon to be augmented with a DB750 as well. Lee
Very nice! Shame those two lovely basses will have to slum it with the rigs they're being 'forced' to go through
 17.
Hi Guys - Just been chatting to Chris at Bluebird Studios... Good news is we're all set for the Sunday 16th March. The studio will be available from luchtime onwards, so lets say an 'offical' start time of 1pm I'll get down as soon as i can after my bigband rehersal but I understand Ped will probably be there a little before 1pm anyway... Address is Bluebird Studios, Snowdon Road, St annes - google maps link, it looks pretty straight forward to get there... Cost for hiring the studio is £70 - I'm sure we can cover this with donations if we all throw a few quid in, I'm thinking a £5 each maximum should cover it... Looking forward to seeing you down there I guess some sort of list of who's coming and what you're planning on bringing would be good - I'll set up another thread for that. Cheers John
Good luck with it all from us down here in the 'unbeautiful' south! It'll be a great day Thinking back, we had such a good time at the SE Bash last August and it's amazing what a diffference it makes getting to meet people on the forum face to face. Look forward to seeing the thread and the pictures afterwards! Nik
 18. Great looking basses and with the amplification, that's some serious bass gear in the pictures!!! Are you the proud owner of it all?
 19. Fabulous! What does it sound like with the extra p/up in the bridge position?
 20. Very nice collection Nick! The G&L is fabulous and IIRC, sounded great when you had it at last year's SE Bass Bash.. What are the mods on your Fender Jazz 5? Nik
 21. That's the 3 all-time classic bass designs in one fell swoop.. The Lakland is very nice indeed!
 22. I had a Hartke HA3500 that died on me not long after I bought it and I couldn't figure it out at all after checking fuses etc.. So I took it to a good local repairman and it came back good as new.. Hope it all works out OK!
 23. Considering they didn't have a bass player, some of their songs have very memorable bass lines.. 'Light My Fire' and 'Lost Little Girl' spring to mind right now, but I'm certain there are some others too.. One of the great bands, IMHO!
 24. Great pictures again Homer! The Bass looks the business too
 25.
Nik I took some lessons from a girl who used to teach in Bognor some time back, but I am not too sure whether she is still there. She used to work in a studio with the guy my drummer had some lessons with. I shall check to see if either / both are still about in Bognor. She was good, but is blind so if you were after pointers on hand positioning it might be a problem - and now I shall stop because however I try to word this it seems to come out lewd
Thanks Al, Sensible that you refrained from continuing... But let's do that over a pint next week? Nik
