1.
I have a lot of sympathy with this. And the difference between pulling ebay auctions apart here is that you're not doing so within the actual auction... Of course many BC'ers want to look after each other and ensure that no one is being really rampantly ripped off. But there is a difference in principle between actual rip-offs and differences of opinion over fair prices. No one is pretending that this bass is anything other than what it is, and potential buyers are more than able to look around on the bay, at the big retail sites, etc and judge whether or not they think the price is fair. It also seems more than a bit pompous to come on a 'for sale' thread and have a go at someone for not saying 'Happy New Year'. Who are we - the Appropriate Greetings Police? Jones
What ever happened to good manners and courtesy in the way members deal with each other on this forum? It's been discussed many times before about the rights and wrongs of people who join as members but never contribute anything on this forum other than 'For Sale' posts... And my personal view is that lack of basic courtesy + high prices + lack of support for the forum in general isn't the best way to be a member of Basschat. Otherwise, be more honest with members and be a recognised seller that sponsors the forum with some advertising, like other 'sellers' do. Just my opinion of course..
 2. All told, about 60-70 gigs.. Some great, some just OK and a couple that were dreadful! Wouldn't miss it for the world though and this years looks even busier
 3.
Cheers Nik, your Wal looks really nice. Havent they stopped making basses?
Thanks! Yes; sadly, that is the case. Although there's talk that Paul Herman who used to work for Wal for many years and who is himself, an excellent guitar maker, is taking the Wal brand forward. Paul currently works in Twickenham at Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience I believe..
 4.
Good luck with the sale: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/fender-american-75/8162 and that's before haggling the price with a handful of cash. Hamster
Good point!
 5.
You ask for views - to me that is about as "porn" as Anne Widdicombe pleasuring herself. Ive always disliked Gibson style basses.
That's really not a nice visual image But the bass is cool!
 6.
have played bass for 20 years but not recently in bands want to get back in the saddle. Interested in just about anything interesting.
Hi, A good friend of mine who's a drummer and lives in Enfield might be interested, so I've emailed him on your behalf. I'll PM you or leave another post here when he gets back to me. Happy New Year! Nik
 7. This bass is on Ebay now I believe: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=017
 8.
Tell me if I'm wrong guys, but haven't these been going for £700-£800 at most on e-bay? Nice bass and a happy new year!
You're not wrong and personally, I find it a bit much that people come on selling stuff at this time of the year that's overpriced and their post isn't even prefaced with any kind of pleasantries or season's greeting.. Let alone not contributing anything else to the good life of this forum at all.. Sorry - Just makes me cross!! New Year rant over!
 9. Even though it's probably a good idea to upgrade them ASAP, have you tried adjusting the height of the pick ups to make them more balanced?
 10.
Ask Nicky Wire - he plays them. Ooops, sorry, he pretends to, probably not the best endorsement come to think of it....
11.
What you describe as 'terrible sound' is pure bliss to the ears of others. Thank goodness there are all sorts of basses/strings etc to enable a wide palette of sounds.
Gotta admit, I love the sound of it too. And the playing which is really good. How amazing to hear the spill from the rest of the tracks!
 12.
Do you know if its louder than another Hartke? The reason I ask is that the fan on my 3500 was always noisy, to the point where it couldn't be used for recording if there was anything miked up in the same room. Cheers, Alun
I had the same problem with my HA3500 and if I was playing quietly at home practicing, the fan was really off-putting because the noise from it was at a certain pitch that clashed with standard concert tuning! Maybe it just objected to my playing? But seriously, for such an industry standard amp, it's a major design flaw! It was the main reason I got rid of the Hartke and went for a GK 700 RB, which is as quiet as a mouse in comparison.
 13.
Not the best photos but you get the idea?
Very nice! Be interesting to hear your Lakky 4 next to my 5?
 14.
I was in a SC yesterday and they had some Italia guitars on the wall. I was immediately drawn to the shiny sparkles. Lots of lovely retro feel details and nice creamy coloured plastic. Anyway, further along was what struck me first as being a most foul bass, but then within seconds I saw the beauty hidden in the beast! Italia Modulo Tipo 3 in a rich blue sparkle, with a crazy raised silver beading around the middle edge of the body. I was unable to plug it in, but my first impression on picking it up was how back breakingly heavy it was. It felt OK to play though, but it's just the fantastic styling of these things. <a href="http://www.arbiter.co.uk/italia/electric_b...bass_guitar.htm" target="_blank">http://www.arbiter.co.uk/italia/electric_b...bass_guitar.htm</a> Has anyone had any real experiance of these guitars? Are they just fancy looking tat,or is there some actual real guitar hidden under those tarty come hither and abuse me looks?!?! And anyone that puts this in the description "Sparkle top on flawlessly applied Mother-of-Toilet-Seat Pearloid.".. that's genius! M
Very cool! Wonder if anyone knows what they sound like?
 15.
It's not Bernie so far as I am aware. The shop is in an attic over a clothes shop and has been there for a while now. Seems to carry a lot of second hand stuff. I always have a look in on the way past because I tend to park at that end of town and walk down through North Lanes. When you can get in the College car park is £3 all day on Saturdays so a lot cheaper than the normal NCP rip off parking
Mmm.. Sounds worth a visit, but as I'm GAS free at the moment, better not
 16.
Just having my post Christmas wander round Brighton this afternoon, call into GAK, take the MP3 player back to Richer (and the replacement is still not sorted I think it may be the PC), try to find something to do for 5 or 6 hours while the missus sits round her friends house and polishes off a bottle of wine & a fair bit if Grand Marnier - ANYWAY had a quick look in the guitar place over the top of the clothes shop at the north end of Sydney Street and they have a couple of EBS combos (Gorm 15 & Neo Drome 12) three heads and some cabs as well as 3 Ken Smith Jazz basses (a fretless and two fretted as I recall) Sorry all a bit vague as I cannot remember the name of the shop or exactly what they have as I am presently trying to surpress GAS but if that's the sort of thing you are looking for and you are down south it may be worth a look. The basses were around the £950 mark I think.
Bernie Goodfellow sells the Ken Smith Design basses and EBS gear so maybe Bernie has a new shopfront? Bass_ferret will probably know the answer to this one Al...
 17. Sorry to hear such bad news, Chris and especially at this timeof year! I've been on the end of a something similar myself a few years back - a studio break in with thousands of pounds of gear taken - and it's an awful feeling. Good luck in recovering your gear and also, in seeing the complete B******s who did this get caught! Nik
 18.
Anyone fancy a SUB5?? Its all Niks fault I go 20 years with no major GAS and now look what's happened!! I want everything. Come on ERNIE a big win has been cosmically ordered for 1/1/08 do you hear!!
Now Now.. GAS is a completely individual personality fault, Al.. It's the fact that we all share it that makes it easier to live with
 19. Sandberg do a nice P-bass clone too... http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/
 20.
Hi Nik, well its a normal band thing, myself and the drummer wanted to not travel so far,( 2 to 3 hrs each way for 70 quid, less fuel and beers ) learn new songs , stop playing to 1 man and his dog, get better gigs but do less, the guitarist just wants to play blues till he dies and he had a yoko ono syndrome missus who came to every gig, so me and the drummer got the bullet, such is life. And Happy Christmas and a Great New Year to you Nik and all at Basschat....take care and 'dont let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy' ;-)
Hi Nig, Sorry to hear that but I can totally see your point of view! The yoko ono syndrome story reminds me of Janine in Spinal Tap! Scary.. Hope you had a good Xmas! Nik
 21. Lovely bit of wood and, IMHO, the classic SR4 look!
 22.
which is why I also have this:
Very nice! I remember it from the South East Bash in August... Uber light IIRC?
 23.
I can't believe I'm the first one to come up with HMWYRS by Sir Norman Watt-Roy. Hamster
+1 Fabulous!
