3.
5 GRAND ?!?! I nearly choked on my vino then.
+1.. beautiful as it is, I don't think any bass is worth £5000
 4.
That answers the question, Nik - and the neckplate will be plain, with nothing stamped on it -J.
Spot on again Jon! I can see you on Mastermind soon, specialist subject 'Rickenfakers, 1967-1980' or something like that
 5. That's a beautiful bit of wood! Lovely looking bass all round Bob...
 6.
That's right.... twas I...! I've picked up my fretless Wal Mk1 since then.... when's the next bash?
Thought so! Er...dunno is the obvious answer.. I'll put a post up on the Walbassesnaturally forum and see what happens.. Be good to see your fretless Wal
 7.
Nice basses Nik but you know you need a G&L to complete the set.
Thanks Matt, I'd love a L2500 to be honest but you're giving Nig too many ideas, especially as he's got a G&L 5 for sale at the moment!! In an ideal world, I'd add a G&L to my collection plus, I've always wanted a Status Groove 5 for some reason too... But that would be just plain greedy, wouldn't it? Thanks Peter! Funny enough, I didn't think the Wal would get much response from this post because it's the older Pro model and not the Custom version, but happily, people seem to like it..
 8.
Tis a Blue swirl or bowlingball blue emg powered G&L L5500, its got no issues a killer tone but sits on its stand doing nothing, my L2500 is my main 5'er so if you have a quality 4 string to trade give me a call, I prefer maple boards, all the best, nig.
That's a beauty, Nig! Good luck with the trade/sale...
 9.
Nik, that wal is hideous, send it over to me as firewood immediatly.....
Ok Nig - when do you want it? I'm free on the evening of Dec 24th when I shall be deliveing Wal firewood to deprived Basschat children the world over!! I'll try and find some time to pop over your way then..... Thanks for all the positive comments folks.. Homer; I will definitely quote you in my next line management meeting at work to see that I get raise next year.. Hi Cetera, I'm pretty sure we met at the Wal Bash in Jan 2006 if I'm not mistaken when you brought your Wal & a lovely USA Spector along?? Great sounding basses as I recall.. Shockwave; we definitely do need more BC Rich lurve on this forum as you said before.. They are very underrated basses that's for sure.. BB - glad to have helped cure the GAS though hopefully, not for too long! The Wal is heavy too so I'm pretty used to "a decent chunk of timber" around my neck, but invariably, the heavy basses I've had over the years have all sounded great, so it's been worth it! The Lakland is relatively light but still has a great tone too so that will help a bit. Jon, you are spot on sir! The tuners on my Hondo are unbranded Grover copies that came from another Ric clone. I bought them here on BC earlier this year (along with some other bits & bobs) in order to repair the much inferior original stock Hondo ones that were in a complete mess! The body of the Hondo is ply wood sadly and as for the neck plate, I'll have to check it when I get home later.. It's great to have an expert on these on the forum because there are so many Ric clones around these days all of differing qualities... Mine doesn't play that well any more and the electronics need a bit of work but I have a replacement scratchplate with all the pots that I could just use instead if I can find some time.. It was pretty good when I first had it though but I was much less demanding then I suppose.. Cheers Nik
 10. Hi Folks, Having enjoyed seeing some great basses in this section over the last 7 months or so, I thought it was about time I did the same and put my lot up for perusal. Just to say that your 'viewing pleasure' will be greatly enhanced if you can manage to whistle the Tubular Bells theme whilst at the same time, read aloud the names of the basses in a very pretentious English accent in the style of Viv Stanshall To get the ball rolling, my first ever gigging bass which still works but not very well.. Hondo II Ricky copy circa 1977 I did a lot of gigs with this bass in the late 70's so it's got huge sentimental value.. Next up, my main gigging bass at the moment, Fender Roscoe Beck V Very heavy for long gigs, but the neck is great to play and it's just a brilliant sounding bass! Currently acting as back up to the RBV, Lakland DJ5 Bought this from P-T-P here on Basschat in the summer.. Great vintage Jazz tones.. much too good to be a back up really. My two vintage basses, 1978 Wal Pro 2e & 1984 BC Rich Eagle, which I'll never sell, especially the Wal! The BC Rich is an awesome sounding bass and plays like a dream.. The Wal is my all-time favourite bass. And lastly, two 'cheap as chips' copies that satisfy my completely pointless need for a P bass & a Jazz clone. This was bought from The Butler here on Basschat and has a Kent Armstrong pick up that sound pretty good to my ears.. Bought this for £89 for a bit of fun, gave it a set-up and it's suprisingly good to play! Funny how it goes like that sometimes? Being sensible (which I'm not), I really should pare this lot down to 5 basses. But it's great fun having a P Bass clone, Jazz clone and a Ricky clone plus a thru-neck design in the collection (which the BC Rich is), as well as the two quality 5s for gigging along with the Wal. Sorry for the large photos and long post but hope you enjoyed some of it! Feedback, comments welcome and thanks for looking... Nik
 11.
Personally, I really like the look of the Aerodyne with the trays/covers!
+1 Great mix of vintage & modern vibes...
 12.
got myn with an EBS preamp for 600 ^_^
Very good price that!!!
 13. The guy from the Blockheads (Norman??) is getting on a bit too, but he's a great player! IMHO and making a sweeping generalisation, bass players age better than guitarists or drummers because we are more chilled out in comparison.. something to do with those low frequencies
 14.
Instead of 11 boxes, tonight we're playing a big party gig in central London and we're hiring all the kit in - PA, amps, monitors, soundman - the lot. So I'll just be taking a bass, tuner pedal, leads, a spare pack of strings and, er, that's it. What a nice change from a car load of junk!
Sounds good... Have a good one Matt!
 15.
To be honest I am not convinced scale length makes a massive difference to B string definition, having owned 34,35 and 36" basses. I think it is more down to neck construction and overall build quality/materials. Cheers ped
+1 I've had a few basses that are 34" scale which have great sounding low 'B' strings, thinking of a couple of Musicmans and my Roscoe Beck V to mention just a few.
 16.
+1 I'm in total admiration of all those here who have pared it right down to a very minimal amount of gear.. It's partly a confidence thing I think; having confidence in your gear and in yourself as a player.. and being able to adapt and work in any situation. When I used to manage bands for a living, I got so tired of the reptitious complaints about a bad gig, bad PA, bad monitors etc, etc. So I used to point out to them that when The Beatles played Shea Stadium in NYC in the mid to late 60s, they didn't even have monitors, so what were they complaining about!! Moral of the story is that I must learn my own lessons...
 17.
why 3 basses guys? I just take 2 basses in hardcases, amp and voltage regulator in rack, 1 cab, and one pedalboard, including a DI (in case sh*t happens with the amp)
Good question.. I always take a back up 5 string, so that's two 5 strings.. Plus one 4 string bass which is tuned down a tone for about 4 numbers in the set.. I keep meaning to relearn those tunes on my 5 string in the dropped key but keep forgetting to get around to it. Stewblack: like you, our guitarist always takes a spare amp and a spare cab. In fact, he takes spares of everything! I figure that if my amp goes I can DI straight out of my Zoom B2 1.u.
 18. Hi Folks, Just got back from a gig tonight and was thinking about how many seperate items I'm constantly moving around every time we gig. It's currently standing at 8 seperate, individually portable items as follows: 1 x Bass in semi-flight case 1 x Bass in gig bag 1 x Bass in gig bag 1 x Amp in gig bag 1 x Leads bag 1 x Fx case 1 x 410 cab 1 x bag for guitar stands Obviously, I'm also moving myself around in my car to transport this stuff from A to B, but I'm thinking specifically of bass related items here! Have tried but can't seem to get it down less than this at the moment.. How about you? Nik
 19.
Damm I keep missing you whenever you're over my way Nik ... Just necked a couple of beers so cant drive
Hi Nick, very wise - especially at this time of year.. No worries, something will crop up that works out.. How's things with you? Nik
 20.
Nice selection of working basses Nik.
Thanks Homer - the RBV is absolutely amazing, so much so, the DJ5 hasn't had a look in! I've not been this happy with the sound of a bass for as long as I can remember
 21. Hi Homer, Interesting post! Personally, I can't get below 7 basses, which are justified in my OCD way as follows: Working basses: 1 x Roscoe Beck 5 string = main gigging bass 1 x Lakland DJ5 = main back up for gigging bass 1 x Wal Pro 2e 4 string = graphite reinforced neck, so perfect for the drop tuned numbers in the set Others: 1 x Hondo Ric copy = first proper gigging bass bought for me by Mum, so can't ever be sold for sentimental reasons 1 x P bass copy = because everyone's got to have a Precision type bass in their collection 1 x Jazz bass copy = you've gotta have a jazz bass in the collection, especialy a 4 string as it's great for slapping 1 x BC Rich Eagle = everyone's gotta have a through neck bass in their collection All totally justified in my tiny little mind of course, especially as the P Bass, Jazz Bass and the Rickenbacker are 'archetypes' of bass guitar design really so it's nice to have that to hand. The way I see it, it keeps me happy and doesn't hurt anybody else except the old bank balance Nik
 22. Hi Alan Just to keep you posted, I will be seeing this person over the weekend and will get back to you then. Nik
 23.
Hi Guys It is actually the deep one (standard depth which I think is about 14"). Let me know if it's any good to you
PM Sent..
 24.
Red Lion Stubbington, with an overfull complement as I think we have both keys & the stand in guitarist. Lucky its one of the larger stage areas!!!!
Have a good one Al! Where's Stubbington? Gigging myself in Eastbourne otherwise I'd have like to come along and see you.
