Cheers Ferg! See you again soon, Nik

Hi Folks, Just had the pleasure of meeting Ferg, a.k.a. gusgus, to do a deal on his Squier VM5. I'm happy to say that Ferg is a great person to deal with, very honest about his gear and makes a fine cup of coffee! More than that, I had a brilliant conversation with Ferg about all things bass (naturally), music, his absolutely fascinating studies and loads of other cool stuff.. So, deal with Ferg in confidence folks; i'm more than happy to recommend him to the Basschat community! Thanks for the bass! Nik

There's a free app for Android devices called 'Band Name Generator' which might help...

IMO we should always encourage, celebrate and support creative ambition, especially in the arts ... I can still remember my Physics teacher at school telling us that 'dreamers move mountains'. So I'd just say to the OP; Good Luck and follow your dream!

+1 to all the tributes above.. He was a really talented bass player IMHO; always played the song first and foremost. I didn't know him but it's great to hear those personal stories about him and what a cool, down to earth bloke he was. RIP Trevor

Many thanks for the kind words Et! Likewise, it was a pleasure doing business with you And I'm very glad the RBV has gone to a good home.. All the best and good luck with the rest of your tour! Nik

That's terrible news! I've been a Doors fan for over 35 years now, so it's definitely a sad day in our house.. Time to put on some of the tunes and remember what a great musician Ray was and what a great band they are! RIP Ray.

Just sold a Roscoe Beck 5 to Etienne and he was absolutely brilliant to deal with! Super-fast payment, great communications throughout and a very relaxed approach to getting the deal done, which really helped as I was in hospital for a few days and he was/is on tour.. I can only reiterate all the above positive comments that have been said... and especially to say that Et's a real credit to the Basschat community! All the best and enjoy the bass Nik
i cant see any neck dive on the bass, it has strengthening carbon fibre inserts & the middle 2 laminates are hornbeam , a wood used for load bearing structures , the outer laminates are purely for show anyway as the machine heads are located further to the centre . cheers for the comments .
I think the phrase 'neck-dive' here means that with some basses with a large headstock (like the old Wal Pro models), the bass can be a bit neck heavy.. that's all. It's not a comment about there being any structural problems with the bass or the neck of the bass, far from it in fact... As you've rightly pointed out, these old Wal necks were not only very well made but also, reinforced by the addition of 2 carbon fibre strips, so they're virtually indestructible! -
Very lovely and a great price - I actually prefer these to the customs - I used to have the chance to play loads when the dealership was in Manchester, the neck profile (quite a pronounced V from memory) suited me perfectly
+ 1 Having owned and played Wal Pro basses many times over the years i'd say that there is a bit of neck dive, but not to the point where it affects your playing. This looks like a very nice example to me, and the case alone is worth £200, so it's a pretty good price for a classic British bass! Good luck with the sale. -
The Aguilar TH500 would sound great with that cab. I think you should keep thr RB and sell the other basses.
Would if I could Chris, believe me! Never used an Aguilar head, though I did have the Tonehammer pre for a while and liked that.. -
My pleasure Nik Sorry if it turned it into a potentially expensive test I am loving it as a rig. Light. Loud. Sounds marvy. Now the...about your Roscoe No I really mustn't. The Wal has come back out of semi retirement and I may revert to 4's for a bit. Anyhoo ... pint? A pint soon sounds good - perhaps this week sometime? Before my little Op... I won't bring the RBV with me to tempt you, I promise!
-
Hi Folks, Just thought I'd share this story with you... Because of a recent house move where I can't store my present rig (Hughes & Kettner Bassbase 600 + SWR Triad) near the front of the house, I decided it was about time I investigated / invested in a lightweight rig.. Though I love the sound of my Triad in particular and have been very happy with the Bassbase head, at over 100lbs in weight collectively, it was no longer going to be possible to stick to my 'old skool heavyweight gear is best' mantra and keep gigging this rig. So, last weekend WalMan very kindly offered to lend me his GB Streamliner and Barefaced Super T for a gig I was doing, so that I could try out a lightweight rig for myself.. Though I've heard lots of Barefaced cabs and Class D amps at various bass Bashes over the least few years, I'd never had the chance to try any of them out in a proper gigging situation for myself, so I knew this was going to be interesting! Though thinking back, I remember Alex A/B-ing the Super T next to my Triad at the SE Bash 2 years ago and it sounded pretty impressive to my ears then... Well, even at home testing the rig out, it sounded fantastic, but at the gig it sounded great too with all my basses - RBV, BC Rich Eagle and Scheter Diamond P5.. I found my sound really quickly and was particularly impressed with the comments I got from the rest of the band, especially our drummer who has never before commented on the sound of my bass rig over the last 7 years of gigs together!! (maybe he just doesn't listen to me ) Even our guitarist commented on the rig, and that fact plus the band's absolute amazement when I carried the whole rig out by myself at the end of the night was about as conclusive as it could get! Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I've now put my Roscoe Beck 5 string up for sale so I can find a suitable lightweight rig for gigs.... I won't have enough cash for this particular rig, but I'm sure I'll find something out there that works for me... Thanks of course to Walman for the loan of his fab sounding rig! Nik
