2.
The slap nay-sayers, would have done well to watch Urb when he demonstarted how in the right hands slap can be a tasteful addition to ones usual playing. It would be good if he was aked to do something a bit more formal as part of the day.
+2 Urb???
3. Hi Folks, As some of you will know, my main bass for the past 4 or 5 years has been a Fender Roscoe Beck 5 string and though I've hada a few variations on the theme, the one I have now I acquired from Happy Jack 2 years ago and it's just great for me! AFAIK, Jack got the bass from NJE and when Jack had it, it still had the same set of strings on it that NJE had put on it and those sounded really great to me - very even in tone across the strings and they had a lot of 'thump' to them (if that makes sense??).. ..Anyway, I recently changed the strings on it as they were a couple of years old and even though I like a quite 'old skool' tone, I figured I should put some new ones on and give the bass a set-up. Because I had no idea what strings were on it when i got it from Jack, I wasn't sure what strings to choose, so after a bit of dithering around, I went with some Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (0.45 - .130) from Stringbusters and though they're quite bright and 'zingy' sounding etc, etc, they just don't have that low-end 'thump' to them to my ears and what's more, the B string isn't quite as well defined as it was before. And this doesn't really change, even if I dial in some lows or low-mids on my amp to compensate. So, I'm wondering what other strings the good folk on Basschat might suggest, particularly bearing in mind my more' old skool' preferences... Thanks as ever for looking.. Nik
4. I've been in touch with Hamster and he's looking to find a date at the school where we hold the SE Bash... Ideally, it will be on Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 September, but if it moves forwards or backwards a week or two, it wouldn't be a problem.
5. Sad news! R.I.P. Duck...
6.
No no no, it's only half-past May. We don't usually do BassBash until ten to September.
Looks like we'd better get on with it then! And whilst we're at it, make plans for a 'Quit Room' and a 'Slap Room'.... And we need a Cooler for any of those "one knob compressors".... Will have to send some PMs out methinks..... In the meantime, let's start a register of interest here whilst we look for a date or two for this..
7. I used to have one of these which I traded some years back with the Beedster, and it was a fabulous bass... In many ways, I preferred it to a '66 Jazz I once had! Good luck with the sale; have to say that I think this is a very good price indeed!
8. Hi Chris, Trying to send you a PM on my Blackberry but it's playing up! If it's still available, i'm interested in the TC electronic preamp please and will contact you tomorrow when on a laptop to work out details.. Cheers Nik
9. I had a Tokai Jazzsound bass some years back and it was better (IMO) than a '66 Jazz I'd had some years before... So this is a '..it's hard to believe this still hasn't sold' kind of BUMP!
10. Lovely Wal; and quite an early one too! There's a fair number of the early Pro Models that had replacement necks fitted and those replacement necks sported the redesigned headstock which was part of the Wal Custom range (along with redesigned electronics, mahagony bodies and laminated wood fascias).. IIRC, all the Wal Pro models were Ash bodies. It also looks to me like the bridge was changed at some point too, as most of the Pro model bridges were finished in chrome silver, whereas the Customs had the Black finish on the bridges. Best of luck with the sale!
11. Beautiful bass Russ! I can see why you are interested in cameras... Hope all's well with you and good luck with the sale. Nik

13. SORTED!
14. I don't know what you mean, Sir? Actually, it's my ex- wife who's the manager.. What a strange world it can be sometimes..
15. Hi Folks A friend of mine has asked me to post an advert here for a bass player to joing a young band she's managing.. The band is called: The Indicators Here's what she asked me to post for her: "BASS PLAYER needed very urgent for a gig this Friday in Worthing for The Indicators, here's a note from there manager the band seem to be missing a bass player, he's not dead or anything, however, somebody needs to play the four lovely strings...is anyone up for strumming a few chords in worthing on a Friday night...x ? If so please get in touch...It's only three chords but apparently they know five...and for some reason I have them on Radio One and Steve Lamacq loves them...but they lose more bass players than Spinal Tap do drummers...this is all in humour...sort of ... Kate the manager...x Sigh...x" The band has a small deal with an indie band, management and a named Producer on-board, plus support from Steve Lamaq at Radio 1, so they've got stuff going for them.. Though based in the Littlehampton area on the South Coast, the band does gig quite a lot in London and other places as I understand it, so if anyone here is interested, they need to be Ok with travelling.. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please PM me your details and I'll pass the info on to the Manager. Thanks for looking Nik
16. They help though...
17.
Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery Merlin
+1
18. Luke Ward used to have one of these in blue IIRC, which i can remember playing for about half an hour at the 2007 South East Bass Bash.. Though I'd just bought a really nice Lakland DJ5 that day from P-T-P, I can remember thinking rather guiltily at the time, that I liked Luke's Streamer as much if not more.. Good luck with the sale!
19. That's a very cool looking bass - good luck with the sale!
20. Just to echo all of the above, Simon is a fantastic person to deal with and an example of everything that's great about this Forum.. Simon saw a post i made recently looking for a particular type of mic lead.. So (to cut a long story short), he sent me 3 mic leads free of charge in return for me making a donation to Basschat ! And, as if that wasn't enough already, he paid the postage on the parcel, even though I offered to pay it.. Simon I can't thank you enough and I will make that donation to BC later tonight.. Highly, highly recommended to one and all and I hope I can return the favour sometime.. Nik
21. This used to be mine and it's a really, really versatile bass...does just about anything tonally! It's very easy to play too and has a very clear, well-defined low B string for a 34" scale.. To be honest, i do miss it, though because of using my Roscoe Beck all the time I never used it enough to justify keeping it.. Sorry it didn't work out for you Mark, but good luck with the sale! Nik
