SOLD Hi Folks Very nice example of an Ibanez SRX 705 5-string thru-neck bass for sale. I've just added another bass to my collection, so this needs to go now. Any interest at all at £225 + p&p? if not, Evil Bay, Gumtree and Friday-Ad beckon... Photos: Though I've not had it long, I'd guess it's about 5-7 years old.. Nevertheless, it's in very good condition; the 2-band e.q works fine, there are no issues with the neck and the frets have a fair amount of life left in them. It has recently been set-up with a medium action and plays very nicely. It has a thunderous low B on it and tonally, I would say it suits a broad range of music, though probably is more suitable for rockier styles.. There's plenty of info about these on the web, but here's some links to help you on your way: http://www.talkbass....x-705-a-680066/ http://www.zzounds.c...view--IBASRX705 http://www.talkbass....x-705-a-680066/ You Tube link: http://www.google.co...KL1OguLPxj4uWWA Features: Neck-thru construction 5pc. Maple/ Walnut Neck Material Rosewood Fingerboard 24/Medium frets Light ash body Accu-Cast B205 bridge PFR pickups EQB-IIDX electronics Why am I selling, I hear you ask?? Well... I'd been after one for a while as I'd been hankering for a thru-neck fiver for ages. However, though it sounds pretty good to me, I just can't quite get on with the narrower string spacing, which is by my reckoning, 17mm at the Bridge. Because I use a Fender Roscoe Beck V most of the time and that has a 19mm spacing, I'm finding the change over at gigs a little too tricky.. So, if anyone out there is looking for one of these, I'm looking for £250 + p&p for it and though there's no hard case with it, i am happy to post at buyers expense in a gig bag and would make sure that it's extremely well packaged up! However, I would much rather it was picked up and tested beforehand, if at all possible... Tea & biscuits provided of course for prospective buyers, who are very welcome! Please PM me if you have any questions or just post them here and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for looking! Nik

Well, no surprises to say that I have nothing but more praise to heap on the Beedster! A recently acquired TC Electronic pre-amp is testimony yet again to what a pleasure it is to deal with Chris.. Great communications as ever and the parcel arrived on time and the pre-amp was very securely packaged up. Thanks again Chris - hope to see you sometime soon! Nik

Very nice bass indeed! I had a Tobias Classic 5 about 20 years ago and it really was a fabulous instrument.. It was one of the few basses that I've had over the years that really 'sang' when you played it... it was so resonant.. And IIRC, that was what Mike Tobias was always trying to achieve with his mix of tone-woods. Anyway, I'll stop reminiscing now... Good luck with the sale and have a free BUMP!

Strings - which ones have the most 'thump'?
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for all the replies Folks; really helpful as usual and I'm looking at the different strings on-line now..will let you know how I get on. Spot-on Clarky - I had rounds on last time and went for the same with the Slinkys.. Bigwan - I can assure you your old RB5 is being well looked after! Gary mac - thanks for that though I have done a couple of gigs with the Slinkys and still feel as though something's missing for some reason.. Must be my age... Cheers Nik -
The slap nay-sayers, would have done well to watch Urb when he demonstarted how in the right hands slap can be a tasteful addition to ones usual playing. It would be good if he was aked to do something a bit more formal as part of the day.
+2 Urb??? -
Hi Folks, As some of you will know, my main bass for the past 4 or 5 years has been a Fender Roscoe Beck 5 string and though I've hada a few variations on the theme, the one I have now I acquired from Happy Jack 2 years ago and it's just great for me! AFAIK, Jack got the bass from NJE and when Jack had it, it still had the same set of strings on it that NJE had put on it and those sounded really great to me - very even in tone across the strings and they had a lot of 'thump' to them (if that makes sense??).. ..Anyway, I recently changed the strings on it as they were a couple of years old and even though I like a quite 'old skool' tone, I figured I should put some new ones on and give the bass a set-up. Because I had no idea what strings were on it when i got it from Jack, I wasn't sure what strings to choose, so after a bit of dithering around, I went with some Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (0.45 - .130) from Stringbusters and though they're quite bright and 'zingy' sounding etc, etc, they just don't have that low-end 'thump' to them to my ears and what's more, the B string isn't quite as well defined as it was before. And this doesn't really change, even if I dial in some lows or low-mids on my amp to compensate. So, I'm wondering what other strings the good folk on Basschat might suggest, particularly bearing in mind my more' old skool' preferences... Thanks as ever for looking.. Nik

I've been in touch with Hamster and he's looking to find a date at the school where we hold the SE Bash... Ideally, it will be on Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 September, but if it moves forwards or backwards a week or two, it wouldn't be a problem. -
No no no, it's only half-past May. We don't usually do BassBash until ten to September.
Looks like we'd better get on with it then! And whilst we're at it, make plans for a 'Quit Room' and a 'Slap Room'.... And we need a Cooler for any of those "one knob compressors".... Will have to send some PMs out methinks..... In the meantime, let's start a register of interest here whilst we look for a date or two for this.. -

Wal Pro 11E no.1124 REDUCED £1750...Sale Pending!
silverfoxnik replied to k50's topic in Basses For Sale
Lovely Wal; and quite an early one too! There's a fair number of the early Pro Models that had replacement necks fitted and those replacement necks sported the redesigned headstock which was part of the Wal Custom range (along with redesigned electronics, mahagony bodies and laminated wood fascias).. IIRC, all the Wal Pro models were Ash bodies. It also looks to me like the bridge was changed at some point too, as most of the Pro model bridges were finished in chrome silver, whereas the Customs had the Black finish on the bridges. Best of luck with the sale!
