Just wondering if anyone has seen/heard this yet before I put aside some time to listen to it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07vwg5w The first 30 seconds or sound promising, but I always worry when journalists who are supposed to be informing and/or educating us use a generic term like 'Rock' and then play a disco song, in this case 'Another One Bites The Dust'.

Great work Silvia!! Thanks for putting all of that together - it reads really well and the photos and videos bring it to life.. Not sure how much stuff sold in the end Mick, though I did manage to sell my Trace AH300 on the day, which completely surprised me. Nik -
Just bought an Eden amp from Geoff and can only echo the comments in the previous 2 posts.. Very friendly to deal with, super fast delivery, great packaging, and of course, a brilliant sounding amp! So I'm more than happy.. Many thanks Geoff!
Well we had 46 chatters through the door, with 7 guests gratis totalling 53. So with the proceeds from the door, and the prize table lottery, and of course the tea, coffee and cakes. (The green/yellow/red/orange things was fruit for those who haven't seen such exotic fare before) The total clear profit made for charity was £1005.72p Enormous thanks to all those involved who made it happen, and of course to all our special guests who were so kind to show up and support a grass roots event! Hamster
Fantastic result - well done, everyone!! -

Thanks Trevor! Same for me too, I'm sure there were lots of people I didn't get round to talking to, so apologies to anyone I didn't speak to.. Like you, the rendition of 'Walk on the Wild Side' was really something special, as was the whole day itself... And I keep remembering so many amazing little insights from the day, such as Herbie's comments about making sure always you take a moment to think about Tempo.. Or, 'play every day if you can, but make sure that you always play something, don't just noodle around'. And the little grain of wisdom that he picked up from Charlie Mingus in 1959 about 'Play and sing, sing and play' was just brilliant.. Simple stuff, but so much behind it! We've had lots of really good talks at previous Bashes, but this was the first one where we had any guests actually performing, so to see John Bentley demonstrate some of his bass lines from Squeeze tunes and talk us through them - how he drew on influences to create them, etc, etc, - was absolutely brilliant! And to see Herbie's enthusiasm and sheer joy when he was playing - bearing in mind how long he's been a pro musician - it was priceless! -
Just sold the Captain a Trace Elliot head at the SE Bash... It's always a pleasure seeing John at the various Bass Bashes, and great this time to meet his son Rob, who's going to be using the amp - so hope you enjoy it Rob! Got to agree with MacDaddy, Rob was really making some cool sounds in the Jam Room! So, all good on this one thanks John.. Look forward to seeing you at the next Bash! Nik
I just don't know how it can all be organised for the cost of a tenner enterance fee. The people you get to speak are top drawer.Really enjoyed it, with the bonus of other left handed bassists to meet and try their basses. Thanks to the organisers for a well run, enjoyable event
Everyone who took part yesterday, or who helped organise it, did so on a purely voluntary basis. The £10 entrance fee is there to cover the cost of the venue and raise some money for charity, or charities in our case, as we tend to donate the money between 2 or 3 charities dear to our hearts every year. So, Herbie Flowers, John Bentley, and Alex Claber all gave their time freely - as have many others over the last 10 years - as a donation to the cause, so we are really indebted to them for helping to make these events extra special! The same can be said of Paul Herman and Phil of Wal basses, Andrew Needham of D'Addario UK, TimAl of the Original Scratchplate Company Ltd and Ian Robinson, the Luthier who came up with bassninja to do set-ups - all came along to support the event and give it an extra dimension, and hopefully, they gain some great direct PR as a result. We're also very fortunate that other pro music biz people like Dave Swift (and Lucy) , Darren from Planet Rock, John Rhino Edwards come and support the Bash too, because that creates a real buzz on the day as well. Sadly, we weren't able to get the Skype call in with Stuart Spector that we had hoped to do, but hopefully he'll forgive us and we can do that next time. Whilst on the point of thanking people, I'd like tothank Paul for making the Jam Room happen every year, Silvia and Jack for doing a great job with the Facebook, social media side of things and the BGM connection of course, and also my mate Louis for drumming for Herbie and Colin and Sarah for the brilliant venue and amazing refreshments!! On a personal note, I didn't get to play one note on a bass, try out any amps or gear, or anything like that, but I had an absolutely fantastic day regardless! It's always great meeting fellow Basschaters because for me, that's what these events are all about! Here's to the next one! -
I hope there are no stairs involved tomorrow :-) I've just loaded the car excluding basses and it's going to be tight :-)
There are a few stairs, but not too many. Just have an extra shredded wheat and you'll be fine...
