  1. Ooo, tell me more?? Mine is one of those "Vintage" brand "Icon" basses, with the maple fretboard. All Wilkinson hardware... Loving it so far! It's so fast to play... all growly and very toppy sounding at the moment... perhaps that's because my amp is set to maximum funk mode!! 😁
  2. I've just bought a J bass, so I'm trying to play this right now 😲 I want my action like that (fnarr), and that tone...
  3. I wonder, Frank - Did you go for the instant gratification of playing the verse riff down by the nut, or the long game of playing it properly at the 7th fret? 😁
  4. I've just suddenly become a Stingray fan Don't know why it happened, it's just weird... 😁
  5. I dunno mind, in the earlier days of youtube, I remember there was this awful redneck bloke, who'd done nothing but put up a few crappy videos of himself ranting about wanting a nice new car while driving about in some old car. Shortly after came his video of going to a dealership to collect his new car (a high spec Impreza or Evo), which he said was all paid for with his youtube money... that's what he said anyway. At least Scott Divine does bass videos... Only downside is, he refers to himself in the third person, as 'Divine'.
  6. Gosh, I got here as quickly as I could... Ooooh, it's a PROMO video! 😁 edit: seriously though, that's really good. 👍
  7. Oh yes, and I absolutely mean to start the lessons. It's just that Teebs said I should get some jazz cigarettes and a zoot suit first. 👍 😁
  8. Carole my bass teacher you mean? ... that was another dream. 😁 S'funny how Carol doesn't use the term "electric bass". When talking about session work, she says either "stand up bass" or "Fender bass". 😎 I was saying the same thing to Jerry Preston just the other day ... dammit, that was yet another dream!
  9. I'm thinking two P basses - because one should be set up with flats. 👍 It's also a requirement by the studio that I work for (the imaginary one that I go to during the night). 😁
  10. *Thread Revival* Well I hope you're all right! 😁 I've just 'pulled the virtual trigger' on a 2nd hand VJ74 Icon bass. 😌 I've never had a J style bass before. Should hopefully be picking it up within the next few days. Excited!!! 😋
  11. Imagine: Washed up on a deserted beach with Robot Palmer's band from 1986 (frozen in time), and all their touring kit. So that includes the 5 hotties, drum kit, keyboard, a couple of Strats, white P bass with maple fretboard. Plus there just happens to be a huge 6 bedroom deserted log cabin, with fresh water supply and sanitation, plenty of food / generator and fuel etc, for at least 100 years. Happy? 👍
  12. It's like herding cats, isn't it? 😁 Industry standard + Design classic + Desert island bass = P bass. 👍
  13. Thanks for your reply. 👍 You should link us up with the hostile threads, so we can all have a look. 😁
  14. Thought I'd just quote this again for the OP. 👍
  15. I'm a cheap bastard. Do they do one a bit like that for 300 quid? 😁
  16. It's very quiet on this thread tonight ... *says me with a bulging ignore list* 😁
  17. Hey, I had a "thought" when I was on the Dark Side of the Moon thread, earlier - Great name for a Rickenbacker playing band: 'The Clangers'. 😁
  18. I'm currently working on my (very slowly evolving) slap technique (yes, I know slap is out of fashion). I know I should be doing something else. 😩
  19. Yeah, significance, influence, public / critical / peer acclaim ... sales often comes into it for obvious reasons, but not always... I don't think 'The Velvet Underground and Nico' sold well at the time, although it is some critic's #1. If you're interested in "album culture", a quick google of 'what makes a classic album' would net you far better results from salivating muso gernos than I could give you. 😁 I hope the above doesn't seem like a condescending reply - because it isn't meant to be. 👍
  20. I thought that ^^^^ said 'hand job'. I must make the text a bit bigger... 😁
  21. As an admin of a large (unrelated) forum - Nah, I don't think it is... for sure there will always be no thanks from certain elements (those who live under bridges for instance), but (IMHO) there's love to be felt from the normal, the great and the good. 😁
