Jesus Christ!! π² That'll teach me... I was noodling the greatest slap-blues riff that's ever been invented, and now I've gone and forgotten it!

It's usually Daddy who sends us to bed... who is this guy? He looks scary. π²

Nothing but good natured banter going on in here, boss. π I'm kool and the gang with Mr Skinny & Mr Teebs. π

No, I had to go and tend to my elderly mother. Who is about as old and annoying as you two. π

Best I can do for now, because I have to go out in the SNOW!!

Can you quote professional guidelines to backup that supposition? That's a straw man argument as well. I don't watch much TV, but I bet you a fiver that (for example) a presenter of something like "dancing on ice" would compliment male skaters as well as females on their appearance. Please don't make me youtube for evidence! π
-
I think that depends on the sexuality of the commentators. Two hetero' women watching men's athletics or sport - do you really think they wouldn't be likely to comment "Oh, he's hott" or "he's good looking"? Of course that is just as likely as two hetero' males watching female wrestling on TV. Or two gay guys watching a men's rugby match. And importantly - which ever way around, admiring somebody who you may find attractive is not being "sexist"... at least not yet it isn't.

How about videos of female bass players who just happen to be hott and really good? Like Kinga GΕyk? She's a proper touring musician, that usually plays jazzπ€ π

You guessed right! I know, it was supposed to be humorous rather than scientific. π But, yes, I know what you mean, my dog is a type of sheepdog (Kelpie). π Clever buggers... If my dog has been fed while one of us was out, at some point she will try to persuade that person that she's had nothing to eat, and she's smart enough to do it when the person who did feed her is out of the way. There's many a time I've had to call up the stairs to check with Mrs 4000. The reply is usually "That dog is a bloody liar!". She has caught us out once or twice though. π

Hrm, yeah... one of those odd recordings that sounds better with the speakers OFF. Must be strange acoustics or harmonics or summat.
-
After watching that 11 or 12 times, I plugged in my speakers and realised what she's playing isn't a bass! π

And "Don't just walk off showing me the old pencil sharpener, damn you!" π Was it Mark Twain who said: If your cat could speak, he probably wouldn't speak to you. π₯

Having read a lot about them, I'd agree certainly the Stranglers. π What I suppose nobody can really know, is what the Stranglers records would have been like without the punk rock influence... In my view, looking back as somebody who was there and young at the time, the UK punk movement wouldn't have been the same without Malcolm Mclaren's Sex Pistols. It wouldn't have been as big, it probably wouldn't have been enough of a thing to trigger the record companies into the goldrush to sign punk bands as they did. 1977, it took a lot of different social / economic / political factors to align, by chance... rock music was stale and pop was crap, youth unemployment was high, industrial strife, the troubles in N.I. ... and there's posh yet zany Malcolm, running a boutique in the Kings Rd, mates with Vivian Westwood, forms a band from his younger customers - and the next thing you know, there's hoards of working class kids travelling to London to spend 2 weeks wages (or 4 weeks dole money) on a pair of bondage trousers and a ripped tee shirt, so they can show off an image that they have "no future"... it was all great spin, with a huge dollop of luck... So yeah, my point up above is - punk was a significant movement in music, and for sure it's influence continues today, but we can't judge it, because we can't for example: re-run the 1990s with 1977 deleted. Some folks on here say they wouldn't have been inspired to play the bass if it wasn't for punk - but maybe they'd have been influenced by something better in, say, 1981 if punk (as we know it) never happened? Kinda like in "back to the future"... And by the way, 4 pages of a punk thread, and has anybody even mentioned The Clash?? π²

Along with any hope of salvation... Seriously though, bloody magpies... may they be infested by the fleas of 1000 camels... of course, in some states of America, it's an offence to pick up and keep something that appears to be lost. I saw it on TV.

It's even more moronic than naming your dog. I can assure everybody that saying "would you like a biscuit, dog" gets exactly the same response as "would you like a biscuit, Winston Churchill" or whatever.

Is that a dress rehearsal in stage gear, or just in your civies? π

Thank you. π Yep, its 2 bus analog with FX loop, 3 band British EQs, even has (simple one-knob) compression and preamp gain control on 1 + 2. All for as little as Β£58. brand new! ... amazing value IMHO. And thanks for the "Beginners Guide" thread... I haven't really done anything with virtual recording / mixing for nearly 20 years, so I am a little out of touch! If you look on the pic' in the first post, the instrument cable going in to the line input of channel 2 is a passive bass. I can get decent line level from a particularly low output bass (albeit with the preamp gain turned up pretty high!). Incidentally, I was also getting signal using 3/4 or 5/6 with the level control way up... obviously there is preamp on 3/4 5/6, but as it's not user adjustable, those inputs might be better for an active bass, or one with a higher passive output... I'll try more of that stuff when I get some more "play time". Well, it is a mixer with USB interface. And if it wasn't USB, I'd just use the mixer's tape machine phono I/Os to the laptop's Phones OUT and Mic IN . π Interesting... so from that, are some interfaces capable of more? ... I wonder how many tracks are possible via USB at the same time? I kind of assumed the Behringer would do one stereo or two mono via USB... Not that it matters, but I'm using Win7 and generic Win USB Audio Codecs in and out, rather than an ASIO driver package. βΊοΈ

Double bass, to stand or not to stand, that is the question.

I loves this: "Captain Kirk" is "Captain Kirk" in German. Not a lot of people know that.π -

I'm sure I possibly walked past Jamiroquai busking in Cheltenham once. They were really good!

What a super post... a similar tale applied to Cardiff boy Shaking Stevens and his band. Court and all that, but allegedly Shakey had spent all the money.
