k & k Bassmax - trouble getting good sound
steviedee replied to fatback's topic in EUB and Double Bass
What exactly do you mean by 'pop attack' I have a bassmax on both my basses and use a doubler but haven't really noticed anything specific but I'll have a wee noodle about and see if I get the same thing. -
Are you absolutely sure it's a laminate? I've got one of these from around the same period and mine's definitely a solid top and back.
I have one of these from the sixties and it's deffo fully carved, can you follow the grain on the top to the edge?
Do you fancy writing up a quick how-to? It looks excellent from here, I've got a fairly orange and very cheap bass I would like to have at.
I'll give it a wee go you can take heart from the fact that I'm the most DIY averse person I know!

Hey Dara It's the doubler and a CX112L so quite a bit heavier than the wizzy I reckon, I think it sounds great with the upright and a electric bass I love it I think oyu really get the sound of the bass, I suppose it might be a bit clean sounding for some folks but I'm digging it.

I just had my bass set up and a bit of work done to the fingerboard an endpin sorted and a new adjustable bridge set up by Ken MacDonald in Edinburgh, he did a really great job and very reasonable but you have to wait as he is so busy.
Looks great! I'm jelous of the 'doubler'. Are they velvet strings? How do you find them? Cheers Geoff
Hi Geoff cheers for the reply the strings are Innovation Rockabillys, I almost bought some Velvet Animas a while back heard great things about them. I love the doubler though. cheers Stevie

A while back I picked up a Michael Poller bass really cheap and stripped the lacquer as it looked a bit orange and I thought as it was a bargain basement bass, I just had it restringed and had an adjustable bridge fitted. The luthier actually said it was a good instrument worth in the region of £1500 I kinda regretted stripping it but its done now and I like it! Some lacquer was ingrained in the grain so it has a kinda mottled look which looks cool imho, but I can always darken the stain to even it out at some point. Anyway here are some pics, what do you reckon?

I has a Cort in the early 80s it was rubbish, it was full size so that was an upgrade, but it played sh*te and looked like a jobby....

Looks like the weather might be good for The Wickerman this weekend! The Chihuahuas and our pals Inishowen will be playing Friday and Saturday in the small but perfectly formed Hoe Down Wendy House http://www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk/

Great clip man but you'll kick off the 'Marcus is great/sh*t', 'I love/hate his hat' debate, which seems to rage endlessly on basschat!

I've played loads of styles of music I probably wouldn't listen to and I can honestly say I've always enjoyed it and put in 100% because playing music is fun. I suppose if I were doing it as a career I may become jaded, sadly I've never been in the position to have that problem. I'd love to be more versatile I don't really listen to jazz much but I'd really like to be able to play it competently because it looks like a blast and would probably improve my appreciation of the genre. Generally I think there is snobbery at both extremes which is a bit tiresome as there is plenty of room for differing views.
