1. The Chihuahuas will be joining a host of great acts at the brilliant Northern Roots Festival! Northern Roots Festival aims to celebrate roots and acoustic music in all its forms – folk, country, bluegrass, blues……anything as long as it is good! http://northernrootsfestival.wordpress.com/about/ Northern Roots Festival Saturday, 05 June 2010 at 21:30 Bogbain Farm, Inshes Inverness, Highland IV2 5BD
2. Hi folks The Chihuahuas are in Inverness at Hootanannay this Friday the 28th and in The Arch Inn Ullapool on Saturday the 29th! http://www.hootananny.co.uk/ http://www.thearchinn.co.uk/listen.html
3. Yeah mate sounds like you are well out of it, what was the deal with setting up a full PA what a palaver, that would put me off more than the rehearsals if truth be told, completely stupid.
4.
I'm not sure how simple it would be to remove it (never thought about it)... Here's Bob Gollihur's page on the Bass Max http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1265-BASS_MAX.html Apparently it's just wedged in there and is designed to be easily removable. If it comes off easily enough, I'll be happy to oblige.
I have one already they come off very easily, I just bought a shadow brand new and haven't fitted it, but like the bassmax, let me know what you want for it. Why are you packing in the upright are you just not getting to play it?
5. Hi remember when you got that bass it looked really nice, would you sell the bassmax separately?
6. Upright looks really nice what is it and the bridge looks like a cool dark wood, mine have always been very light.
7. Acoustic guitar through a PJB Briefcase sounds amazing.
8. Stripped the varnish off the back of the bass down to the wood, I've started so I have to finish, going to strip the rest of the bass then coat with tung oil or Danish oil ..... well that's the plan at the moment. With any luck I'll have a cool blonde bass which was pretty cheap if not I'll get a good fire going !
9.
I just checked this is on amazon as it sounds like the kind of book I could benefit from - current price is over £80!
My thoughts exactly!
10. Went to see a guitar luthier there he is a top guy and plays the double bass but the quotation was pretty high, he suggested I just take the plunge and sand it!
11. Just bought some books from Phil, arrived in great nick and very promptly, Phil was really cool to deal with, top guy!
12. I was thinking of taking my new bass, which has a similar finish to Steve's, to a furniture restorers, as I quite fancy stripping it down to the wood, like what Teej did but I'm completely inept.
13.
The other thing to consider is that covering your bass in thick new coats of new paint & lacquer can affect the sound to a certain extent. If you love the sound of the bass as it is, leave well alone.
That's a point I really do love the sound of the bass and prefer it to my other basses as it's much warmer, maybe through all the years of use and abuse, maybe best left alone.
14. Just bought one of these anyone got opinions on them?
15.
Completely agree. For the record I'd come & see you if you were local. I've worked with weaker singers so hope that observation didn't come across as too picky.
Not picky at all, if we ever make it down your way I'll hold you to that!
16.
A fair point on MySpace. Always nice to hear these instruments, good arrangements too. Personally I'm not massively a fan of your singer's voice but he's fine and the band sounds great. A bit of a Hayseed Dixie vibe and of course it's always good to hear Rollin' In My Sweet Baby's Arms.
Thanks for that mate it's all quite tongue in cheek but we have a great time. Our singer was actually originally the drummer and had never really sang before but stepped up to the plate to give singing a go when our original guy left, which took a bit of balls. He is improving all the time and is a great guy which is the most important thing, you can always get singing lessons but it's harder to fix a dodgy personality
17. The Chihuahuas new tracks on myspace, if anyone looks at myspace anymore! http://www.myspace.com/chihuahuasband
18. The lazy mans option is think of a price you would be happy to let it go for, explain the situation, put up some proper pics and stick it in the for sale section, people can evaluate how difficult it is to get it fixed for themselves. If someone buys it they probably know how to sort it and have got a bargain, you've saved yourself the hassle, got an amount of cash you are happy with and have a new bass arriving next week.
19. Cheers I'll contact these guys on spec just to get a price, you never know but I can't see me selling it but might be nice to get it done.
20. I have a black stingray I bought in 87 it's a great bass and I love it but I had during the time I thought I was going to be a rock'n'roller (I'm not) and treated it in a careless fashion. The bass has been through the wars with nicks and bad buckle rash, I've no intention of ever flogging it but now I am a sensible bass playing adult I've been wondering whether to leave it in it's current state, it still looks cool or get it refinished and looking newish again. Can anyone recommend a good place to get the bass refinished and should I do it in the first place?
21. Willie Dixon is awesome!
