A while back I picked up a Michael Poller bass really cheap and stripped the lacquer as it looked a bit orange and I thought as it was a bargain basement bass, I just had it restringed and had an adjustable bridge fitted. The luthier actually said it was a good instrument worth in the region of £1500 I kinda regretted stripping it but its done now and I like it! Some lacquer was ingrained in the grain so it has a kinda mottled look which looks cool imho, but I can always darken the stain to even it out at some point. Anyway here are some pics, what do you reckon?

I has a Cort in the early 80s it was rubbish, it was full size so that was an upgrade, but it played sh*te and looked like a jobby....

Looks like the weather might be good for The Wickerman this weekend! The Chihuahuas and our pals Inishowen will be playing Friday and Saturday in the small but perfectly formed Hoe Down Wendy House http://www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk/

Great clip man but you'll kick off the 'Marcus is great/sh*t', 'I love/hate his hat' debate, which seems to rage endlessly on basschat!

I've played loads of styles of music I probably wouldn't listen to and I can honestly say I've always enjoyed it and put in 100% because playing music is fun. I suppose if I were doing it as a career I may become jaded, sadly I've never been in the position to have that problem. I'd love to be more versatile I don't really listen to jazz much but I'd really like to be able to play it competently because it looks like a blast and would probably improve my appreciation of the genre. Generally I think there is snobbery at both extremes which is a bit tiresome as there is plenty of room for differing views.

Woohoo just found 'Funkifying the Clave' in the cupboard I bought it years ago when I was in a 'Latinish' band but it was in standard notation so I was snookered, I remember there were some great grooves on it. Now I'm beginning to read music I can work out the notes but it's so old the tunes are on a cassette, you cant win can you!

I've been playing for about the same amount of time and was in a similar position and felt I wanted to stretch myself a bit and also get more out of playing the bass. I bought an upright a year or so ago and that spurred me to get some lessons primarily to show me how to hold the thing, a few weeks ago I restarted the lessons again with the intention of learning some theory and I have to admit it's been really enjoyable. I've bought a ton of books Chuck Rainey, Ron Carter, Ray Brown, the Simandl book just arrived (woohoo) which are great but I think having a teacher has been invaluable, it gives you the impetus to practice cos you don't want to look like a fanny and it costs cash. Also it's it's quite inspiring to hear someone who can really play but is sufficiently different from your approach that you are really learning. I suppose it might be different on the electric where I have some skills and I might be a bit more resistant to being taught It's opened up a whole new range of possibilities and is great fun, as well as making Amazon happy Oh and I've been looking at the Major's Bootcamp Sessions which are great, I mean what a lot of effort to make that fantastic resource available and the numerous transcriptions on basschat.

Hi just wondering if anyone had the a transcription of the Genesis tune 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)' from 'Selling England by the Pound', the guys in the band want to do a cover for a laugh and I don't really know it. Cheers S

Cheers man I saw it and was sure it was going to be a CCB but turned out to be Romanian and even then I reckoned it would be ply but turned out it was fully carved. Slightly regretted stripping it for a second but it looks cool and I've always fancied a blonde some of the lacquer got into the grain so it's slightly mottled looking but in my eyes gives it a kind of vintage look.... that's what I'm saying anyway. Get it back in a week or so hopefully and I'll post some pics.

Took the bass I picked up really cheap off gumtree to a luthier today to fit a new bridge and restring it and I told him it was a cheapie etc and he said it was a really nice instrument, fully carved and in great nick. I stripped the lacquer off it and refinished cos it was a bargain and I fancied a wee mess about. I'm hoping to get it back in a week or two so I'll post some pics...

Looking for a K&K Bassmax pickup & preamp
steviedee replied to plyguy's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I've got a couple of bassmax pickups I can highly recommend them. I used it for a while with the k&k preamp and clicky sounded great. My preamp is somewhere in Inverness where I left it, I'm waiting for it to return so I can use it on me new bass! -
Hey hey nice one Chris sounds like you got a good bass there..

I am in the Scottish Prog rock band Abel Ganz, the band have been going for about 30 years (I'm not the original bass player) we are currently working on a new album and our next live gig is at The Baltic Prog Fest in Lithuania. Some of the guys did an acoustic set supporting Pendragon at their recent Glasgow show, sadly prog gigs are hard to find in the UK. http://www.abelganz.com/
I've put my personal bass for sale to help Mick. I'll see if the mods will allow me to post it in the "For sale" section since I'm not going to gain money on it (I'd give away 100% of the sale price).
That's a great gesture mate I've chipped some cash, I wonder if we could donate stuff have a wee raffle or something make some money for a guy who has been an inspiration to a lot of us.

I t just sounds like a right palaver but I reckon anything will seem enjoyable after deciding to strip the varnish off the scroll!
