  1. Boston is a great city - I've been there a few times. You'll be pleased to know I drank Coffee there and not tea! LOL
  2. Just informational - your thread title 'What Ohm of cabinets' should read 'What Impedance cabinets'
  3. Have you tried asking Aguilar if they can supply you?
  4. @Jamie Snell a word of kindly advice if I may: @agedhorse designs amplifiers for Mesa. Before that Genz Benz. When he opines on a subject it's advisable for you to listen to what he has to say!!! He knows what he is talking about!
  5. I believe that several of us have told you that already!!
  6. You are correct. The 4Ω cabinet will get 450W from one channel and the 8Ω cabinet will get 280W from the other. You could also run both from one channel for 2.66Ω should you need to and leave the other channel for some other use.
  7. Personally I doubt whether your Laney combo has a failed power transformer. I've not come across too many in my career as a tech.
  8. Remember that this amp is not particularly powerful and therefore doesn't generate the heat of a more able amplifier.
  9. It must be kinda like being in Paradise!
  10. Thank you Andy for confirming my memory. LOL
  11. If memory serves me, it HAS been a long time, the UK uses a ring main system. Each branch circuit goes from the breaker loops to the sockets and finally goes back to the breaker. Current flow goes each way from the breaker to the device plugged into the socket. The local fuse in the plug protects what is between the plug and the device.
  12. The amp itself will have a suitably sized fuse to protect it. I can't remember what fuse values are available in the UK. You can try the 3A and if it fails the 13A will be fine.
  13. Over here DeOxit is the standard. I use their 'Fader Lube' and it works well but you only need the smallest amount! If you have 50+ years in the business you have no doubt seen some of the ramifications of over use of contact cleaner of one sort or another. I've seen the amps of folk who have cleaned their pots by spraying down the shaft. What a mess that makes.
  14. Please do not follow this advice. More pots are ruined by the indiscriminate spraying of 'magic' spray than any other.
  15. This was before the time of Plessey. You make me feel so old but it was more than fifty years ago!! Is the 'exceedingly bare' statue still there at the bottom of Brownlow Hill?
  16. For me the Fender Bassman was the worst amplifier I ever owned. The speaker cabinet sounded nice at low volume but getting it to gig volume was horrible. The first Fender amp I ever liked was the Rumble series.
  17. I think all of us who do tech work have come across similar trials at one time or another. I hope your saga end with stellar results.
  18. @uk_lefty just for interest who is Jo?
  19. Seeing as though @afterimage didn't rise to the bait I should explain that I too count Liverpool as my home city. Yes I'm a little crazy too!! In the Sixties I worked at The Automatic Telephones plant on Edge Lane while I learned my skills and going to EE school. At the same time I played with a Merseybeat era personality called Earl Preston, real name George Spruce. On June 6Th 1968, whilst playing a gig at Nalgo somewhere off Queens Drive, I met a pretty 17 year old girl who I fell in love with. We were married in 1969 and so have just enjoyed our Golden Wedding. We came back to the city to celebrate it with our family. Forgive my trip down memory lane but it was a life changing time in my life. to all of you keep yourselves safe in this horrible time!
  20. Oh come on Nancy love Ohmage?? The correct word is impedance! It's obvious that you know what you are doing. You use your amplification wisely. All too many people just crank the amp to get louder without giving a damn about whether the speaker systems are capable of handling that extra power. The only time I damaged drivers since 1962 is when I left my amplification in the van over a cold winters night. Stupidly I failed to allow the stuff to warm up to room temperature before dropping a nice low B into the pair of Acme B2s. I cracked a surround on one driver in each cabinet. Let me tell you THAT was a long night. <moan!> Luckily Andy Lewis the builder of the cabinets shipped me a replacement for each very quickly.
  21. Did you get the amp repaired? Does it now work properly?
  22. RTFM is always a sensible option!
