I love my helix for bass, but probably even more for guitar. But I do notice that gain staging is more important on helix than pretty much any other FX I've used. Less is more when it comes to gain on each block. Plus, use the global EQ and stick some low and high passes on if you havent already, Think mines set to 40hz and 8khz. Might seem a bit narrow but for live use it works a treat. On my guitar patches I low pass the IR's quite alot just to get that nasty tingle off them.

I'm more satisfied with my current bass.. yamaha bb734.. than I've been with any other over the past 4 or 5 years. I think the p/j config suits me. I played a fender pj for most of my playing life but got rid and have since been going through basses like hot dinners! Playing wise and sound wise it's awesome. I'm not massively in love with the matt black finish.. but that's not enough to move it on.

Is this really the best place for an jack?
Elfrasho replied to dclaassen's topic in General Discussion
Had a mox over the years, never had a break on the side facing output. Had one break on the front facing output when my drummer stepped backwards off the drum riser and stood right on the lead. Cracked the pickgaurd and pushed the whole lead out jack into the cavity at a weird angle. Moral of the story. Unplug whenever possible nomatter where the jack is! -

I once paid 9 quid for a very bog standard single A string thinking I'd just bought a full set. Easily done. I massively over paid.

That's me finally purchased a C4. I've recently went through the Boss Sy-1 and the EH mono bass pedal. The boss tracked incredibly and some of the paddy sounds were excellent, but not quite the sounds i was wanting. The EH mono synth again tracked great, but covered a sound I wasnt really going for. Played with the C4 for a wee while last night and this morning. Tracking isn't as good I dont think, although I'm assuming it's doing ALOT more in terms of processing than the other two pedals. I'm a very clean player so i don't know how sloppy players could get anything out this! Sound wise though it's great. Covers more of that 80's and 90's bass tones. The software though is definitely something that I'll need to study up on! I've mucked about with real synths and software synths in the past and never really properly understood them.. so a bit of e learning curve, for sure!

I never understood the benefits of a transparent compressor until I used one! Never tried the keeley but I understand the love for it!

I'm not a Metallica fan, but I enjoyed that!

Done a pedal trade with Tom. Dead easy and quick. Recommended!

Folder and music stand looks ridiculous. A discrete tablet is passable as long you're not transfixed to it all night!

+1 for that. I've got one and it's working a treat, including an hx stomp with a current doubler. All in a very nice quality chassis.. and having it run from a kettle plug is a huge advantage!
-
I'd go with the HX stomp. But for pure creativity, probably the bass synth wah!

Not sure what the problem is here. Presumably the description is accurate. Value is subjective. If a consumer doesn't think its worth spending 9k on, then it will go unsold. If someone is willing to pay 9k for it, then it must be worth it to them; They know exactly what they're getting.. there's no trickery or scam.

Helix Firmware update is now available "The Cab Update"
Elfrasho replied to fretmeister's topic in Effects
Great update! Especially the dsp usage reduction for the stomp. Never been an issue for bass, but I always found on guitar that I'd run out of dsp when going stereo! This squeezes a wee bit more out it! -
I love a bit of compression. Far from an expert, but I just think the bass feels better to play, not necessarily better audio wise! In fact, if I can hear it, then it's too much. Might be talking absolute jibberish but there you go, its my take on it.

as a transparent compressor, don't think there's much wrong with the EBS multicomp!

Who was the earliest influence that you tried to sound like

The pat badger tone on pornograffiti was the tone I aspired to as a wee boy! Simply couldnt get it with the bass and amp I had at the time though!
