1.
See, that's kind of my problem, I don't rate the CS build.
They are more handmade than the standards, as I understand, which is why is used them as a comparison. I've only played one CS, a Reggie Hamilton; I quite liked it as I remember.
2.
I've been through the "smallest possible gigable setup" thing over the last year or so... I found 1x 112 to not quite be enough for me. I went from 2x 112, to a 210 to my current set up of 2x 110s, which is super portable and easily loud enough for my needs. The whole rig weighs 16kg.
I don't normally find rigs particularly nice to look at, but this is an exception for me. How about a pic with one of your Wals, just for porn's sake; maybe proportion too, but mainly porn?
3. That scratch plate looks very classy, it really lifts the look IMO. GLWTS; great basses.
4.
Interesting, so it feels like one whole thing as opposed to parts? Gotcha.
Everything fits as if they've been made for each other, rather than just raiding the parts bin.
5.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you play US P's for a bit? How are they in comparison? I've never actually played a USA Fender!
I've had a '63, a US and a MIM Roadworn P. I have also had US and MIM Jazzes. I'll discount the '63, as that was something very different due to its age, but the others, by comparison to my Elwood L, felt very 'put together'; a collection of parts (albeit a well put together collection of parts - for the most part). The Elwood L feels more organic and hand crafted, which, of course, it is.
6.
Really need to see and play one of these up close. I'm guessing a retail deal would put them around £1300 plus... and that puts them in another league..?
Still cheaper than a mass produced Fender US Standard (£1400 at Guitar Guitar) and street loads cheaper than a Custom Shop which would the comparable build. Man alive I really sound like a fanboy! Probably true, but with good reason
7. London and Home Counties seems to be around the £250 mark, give or take.
8. I've been using George L's for more years than I can remember, both for bass and guitar (thick and thin gauges) and I've always been happy with them. I acquired a Fender one with an instrument some time back and I agree with gjones, they're awful.
9. Lovely looking, especially the white on maple block inlays.
10.
They're high output and pretty gritty.
Agreed. The MM on my fretless is nice and growly.

12. Messing around with photo editing is dangerous, I even have an exact spec in mind. I must resist
13. I told a guitar playing friend about this, he's picking it up tomorrow he says thanks for the tip.
14. That refin looks pukka; congrats.
15.
No first hand experience but when I was in the process of ordering my bass I asked Adrian about the difference between Haussesls and Maruszczyk pickups, he told me his pickups are a bit more crunchy/dirty and also have a higher output...I went with his
I think this is what Wateroftyne has found also. I'm sure he'll be along to add his take on this as soon as he stops playing with his new toy
16.
Cool looking bass. I quite like the mint pickguard too!
+1 I think that p/g works nicely.
17. Just had a rehearsal in a very humid room where, although my fingers are in pretty tough condition, both hands started to get sore
18. Thinking about it or reading about it definitely makes it more noticeable. Oh, there it goes - wheeeeeeeee.
19. Another thumbs up for the Cobalts here too. Perfect description of them as sounding like used (but not over used) roundwounds.
20. None other than jazz-fusion great, Gary Willis, is a huge advocate of light touch. Each to their own and, as you say, there is always the gain/volume control on one's amplifier for those who play lightly.
